As one who stands to the left of center and considers himself to be a “Teddy Roosevelt Progressive” (Remember Teddy? Created national parks, ended child labor, A man a plan a canal Panama? Republican.) I do not like being lumped into the hate filled mob that you’ve just described the left as being. MsKemple is not a traitor, nor is she a terrorist. Even MSteven58 isn’t a traitor/terrorist, that commentator, like many in GC, on both sides, simply enjoys throwing fuel on the fires of divisiveness as a way to create sparks and weaken any good messages that might be offered, such as MichaelWME in this string.“Liberals”, as I define them, are the ones who care about those who have been disenfranchised or who have suffered losses due to circumstances beyond their control but within the control of those that caused those losses. “Liberals” protect people and the environment from the excesses of the rich and powerful, and the moderate liberals do this with an eye on our nations finances and international responsibilities. As a progressive, I see the “liberal” extremist of today as willing to bring most, or even all, of the wealthy down in an effort to raise all, or at least most, or the poor up. There has to be a balance, but in our nation’s history, it has been the Morgans, the Carnegies, and even the Hearsts and Vanderbilts who used their money to make our nation better. They were not always legal or honorable in their methods, but if you read the history of these people, you can see where they tried to justify the means they used to reach their ends with good works. There have also been disenfranchised who were the engines of their own misfortune and refuse to recognize it or make corrections.Your words, like Kato’s, do liberals and progressives a disservice. All of the positive things said by our many well spoken moderate and fairly liberal commentators mean little or nothing after you come out with your flames and insults.Hate is the weapon politicians and media extremists want us to use. Insult is the discourse with which they want us to communicate. By taking this discussion into the gutters, you have soiled all of those who want to agree with your position, but who did not want to be splashed by the sewage. The only way I can wash off the offal with which you have thrown at those with whom we disagree, offal that DOES NOT TOUCH THEM, is to flag you. Delete your insults, and I’ll delete this. Fail to delete, and from this point on, I will flag you whenever you use hate speech. Vulgarity is always flaggable, and when you call our neighbors nazis, terrorists, or other vile things, you either do not know what those words mean, or you are hater who needs be ToS’d so you can have time to rethink your methods of communication.Even respectful trolls have their limits.C.
