It’s about 5 years too late, but better late then never!
If the Afghans can’t run their own country by now, then they will have to deal with the consequences.

Well, they turned down my suggestion. That was to drop some air fuel bombs on the way in, and again on the way out.

Send cheney/shrub/rumsfeld to the world court to be tried
for their many war crimes. After they are found guilty,
sentence them each to a million consecutive life terms.

Let’s not stop there, bring them home from the occupation of Germany as well ……. and Korea …….. just close all the bases.

Why not just send them to Afghanistan and let the Afghan people deal with them?

While a good idea, those bases are so firmly entrenched, it’ll take a long time. But at least in Germany, they’re not in daily danger and can have a good time.

    Yes they did, actually.

But WHY are you bringing the Soviets into this?

Well, we ARE hearing a multitude of calls for cutting defense spending. So tell me again why we are still maintaining bases around the world? Oh, strategic defense of europe and asia? What for? No one wants to kill or destroy america, right? Not to mention the economic impact those bases have in the local regions. But we don’t care about that do we? We need to CUT defense spending. And if we are going to get rid ofall the weapons and stuff anyway.

    Just sayin….LOL

The population density is to low for that. Oh, and by the way, that’s called genocide, you know, just like good old Adolf…

As German I have to say I never felt “occupied” by the U.S., we always had a cordial relationship. The fact that my English is, well, acceptable at least has a lot to do with the GI’s stationed in Germany. They where fun to be around (until they invariable became too drunk and with the words “You touched my baby!” started a fight, but you get used to it…).

    -

And they were good for the economy. Some bases that are on the close-list will really send the nearest German town into economic trouble and a lot of people are going to lose their jobs outright (like a private security guard I knew). But nevertheless: it is very expensive and no longer necessary, so if you have to leave then go. We will wave you Goodbye…

Addendum, just saw your second post: there are a lot of people who want to harm America. But what would a base in Ramstein do against an ICBM? How could a base in Okinawa prevent a new Bin Laden? The nature of warfare has changed, as have the threats to America. A smart nation adapts…

My daughter may not have to leave her daughter/my granddaughter for another tour now. I’m happy with this decision in general. Sorry for Afghanistan, but happy for our young men and women and their families.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Well Morty, most of what we hear is that you guys hate us, or at the best tolerate us. I have a tad bit of experience in that area having spent several years overseas in 3 different countries.

I did my best to spend time in the local village and to meet and share with those around me and so I enjoyed my stay.

So tell me, let’s assume the the US removed all military presence in Germany. Now taking into account the current political environment in Russia, let’s say that the old USSR came back and Poland was again a vassal state with Russian buildup of military ground troops and tanks on the German border. Russia would not want to make the country uninhabitable since what is the point of land acquisitions if not to be able to control the resources and the population? So, no ICBM threat.

Would the German Army be able to stop an invasion?

Just a question. I really have no idea.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply from an alternate point of view. There are far too many trolls polluting the forums here.

I have a good start for adaptation: close all our foreign bases, bring our troops home and use them only for a real threat to America, not this ridiculous premise of “making the world safe for democracy.” Save lots of money and more importantly American lives…
