    This is a terribly sad story, and commentary. It will be twisted and turned, but I do have one critical question- How did this happen in the most heavily “armed” segment of our society. It was a private security guard who brought the guy down. It also appears the Army had already been warned of this PSYCHIATRIST’S INSTABILITY six months ago.

    The military IS making changes to “past practices”, and things are improving, but it will still take time- this incident is still reflective of those “past practices”, and that should be kept in mind.

    He was a Major (O-5) because he started as a Captain when commissioned as a doctor upon graduation from DOD med School.As A US born citizen he could buy his handguns off post legally. They were not GI Issue..

    I’m more a supporter of the “PTSD by proxy” hypothesis; ie; The guy heard so many horror stories that he got incredibly traumatized by those, as if he had lived them.

    It exists, I saw it. I know a girl who heard the stories about her sister being raped by her father for all of her childhood, along with the stories of her mom being sordidly abused by her godfather. Though she was born years after the events, she was traumatized by it and became violent against men.

    Somebody can heal from his own wounds. What if you have to heal from other people’s?

    It’s like some exttreme feminists, those who believe men are onthologically violent. Most of us don’t believe that and don’t understand how somebody can believe it. But if you worked in a woman’s shelter, and your job was to listen to horror stories like the gang rape we heard about eariler this week day after day after day, week after week for several years, you would have a biased and false image of men, too. All men are not violent, but you only hear about those who are, so you believe all men are violent.

    hey frog - thanks for the truth - i almost didn’t read any more posts because they were so toxic -

    the man didn’t kill because he was muslim - he killed because he had witnessed the horrendous effects of ptsd in his patients and was afraid - his brother said terrified - of being deployed for that reason

    he’s still a murderer. i do, however, hope that the truth of ptsd gets more administrative attention - walter reed and the va etc. are either way behind or criminally blind in terms of treating our returning wounded.

    For God’s sake, people are people - some are bad and some are good, and you can’t know that from one piece of data. Evidently they had some warning signs on Hassan, and ignored them. For that, I blame his commanding officer, as per standard military procedure – because it’s always the leader who is responsible.

    Oklahoma and Idaho are two of the most conservative states in the United States.

    From what little I know about Timothy McVeigh. After he got out of the military. He was in dessert storm.
    He watched what Clinton done in Waco, TX and it set him off. He then carried out what he done.

    Okay, eagles, do you want to declare everyone from New York a terrorist? Reading between the lines, it appears that you do! And your efforts to blame an individual’s choice to commit mass murder on Clinton is simply sad.
    And Obama, unlike his predecessor, IS taking responsibility to fix the messes, many of which came from his predecessor. Bush couldn’t come up with a single mistake he made in eight years. Obama’s delivering on his campaign promises – more slowly than I like on some, and with more compromise on some than I prefer, but he is.

    You are the one who mentioned putting everyone from Oklahoma on a terrorists list due to Timothy McVeigh. I just pointed out he was from NY.

    As far as blaming Clinton for Waco. It was his people, his appointees that called the shots.
    You may of stated something on taking the blame. This would be a prime example.

    For instance the Hurricane Katrina problems were blamed on Bush. Even though the following events happened:

    All the citizens were made aware of the hurricane coming.
    Buses were sent in to take the destitute people out.
    They refused to go.
    Helicopters attempted to bring in supplies. They were shot at by the destitute.
    After they were able to make it somewhat safe, they took care of business to a point of over kill.
    Even today if you apply for a job and was in that mess the employer gets government money for hiring you.

    Clintons example was sending out the FBI and every other law enforcement possible to kill peaceful citizens in Waco.
    This was done under Janet Reno.
    The citizens were just trying to escape the current world system and gather with like minded people. This would be no differences than the Mormons, latter day saints or even the Amish.

    They are not like the Muslims that want to blow up American citizens and kill the Christians.
    Or kill unarmed soldiers at Ft. Hood.
