His supporters seemed to have expected him to fly through the air on his own. They are the ones who crowned him as a Messiah. They elected him, they say, why hasn’t he performed more miracles? Poor things, they’re all tuckered out from getting him into office. They want to sit back now and watch big things happening.

Heavens, I get tired of complaints from our side about what he hasn’t done for them. It’s expected from the Republicans, no problem, but why can’t his base do more than complain?

I find it’s the Repugnicans who keep calling him “Messiah”. Most Dems I know only see an intelligent life form in the White House, who we wish WOULD start getting a little more aggressive, but who is making some progress on the learning curve Bush never climbed.

The people that refer to Obama as a Messiah are almost always Republicans/Conservatives who use to term to say that he’s not the Messiah.

However, the vitriol against Obama is similar that what Jesus experienced.

Nah, I read an article in the paper today that blamed the failed homosexual referendum vote in Maine on Obama’s lack of involvement in speaking out on the issue. That is expecting things from the “Messiah”.

Jesus only received vitriol from the established religious leaders, the common man received him gladly all throughout his ministry, it would appear. The common man is not generally a fan of Obama.

I’m not a christian anymore and yet I don’t like all those comparisons between Obama and the Christ.

I regard Jesus of Nazareth as one of the wisest people who ever walked the Earth and millions consider him the son of God while Obama is just a politician.

    Some things should remain sacred.

“…a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany … and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama” - Barack Obama, Lebanon, New Hampshire, January 7, 2008.

“In a way Obama is standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of GOD. He’s going to bring all different sides together.” - Newsweek editor Evan Thomas

Lawrence Carter, dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel: “No one saw him coming, and Christians believe God comes at us from strange angles and places we don’t expect, like Jesus being born in a manger.”

[Film director Spike] Lee, predicting Obama would be elected in November: “When that happens, it will change everything. … You’ll have to measure time
by Before Obama and After Obama,’” …”Everything’s going to be affected by this seismic change in the universe,”

“Also, we just like to say his name. We are considering taking it as a mantra” - Chicago Sun-Times

“I cried all night. I’m going to be crying for the next four years,” he said. “What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. … The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance.”
Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. on Obama’s winning the Democratic presidential nomination (Politico June 5, 2008).

“…this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. - Obama Victory Speech, St. Paul 6/3/08

“I can’t believe the man whose speeches I watch on YouTube everyday is so close to me. his speeches give an aura of immortality that belies the fact that he’s a living breathing human…” Obama rally live blog, Sunrise, FL, Sun Sentinel, 5/23/08

    Just a sampling from http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/
As far as I can tell, this is a pro-Obama site, not a goof. Also included: photos with Obama with halos over his head, religious themed campaign posters, videos and other cool “religiousy” stuff.

But I love when lefties say it is only Obama detractors that mockingly call him “messiah”….

Secular-Libs do not get it (Churchy, I dont know why you get it); they can not know what they have no capacity to understand. In their arrogance (and the Bible does mention this quality in godless mankind) they can’t compare the faith they have in themselves and their candidate to a true Believers faith in a Supreme Holy Deity and Saviour. They assume all detraction to their beliefs must come from dishonest connivers, etc. If they did all of a sudden learn humility; they might become dangerous. Which is not to say that the average conservative gets it, either; except for the fact that they have an inherent reliance on hierarchy and obedience in their world view.

churchill, that blogspot site you listed is a farce. Did you see the “Obama’s face in a waffle” pic? Not sure it’s meant maliciously, but it is at the very least tongue in cheek.

Please NOTE: Those who support the president do NOT think of him nor do we call him the Messiah. How much more clearly do we have to say it? And yet people keep saying, “Ooh, what happened to your messiah?”

Some Liberals do expect too much too fast, thus giving darts for ANandy to throw.

And puppy, there is only one Good Shepherd. I would have hoped you would know that. No person living on earth today is that Good Shepherd.

So everyone, if you are using the Messiah imagery, just stop it. Especially if you claim to be a Christian.

SENIORBS: First, STOP YELLING!! For someone who thinks of himself as too cool for the room, you lost it.

Second, the statement was made (yet again) that it is the right that started the “messiah” comparisons. I prove it wasn’t, it was his supporters. Does that mean that the editor of Newsweek really thinks of Obama as G-d? No. Does Jesse Jackson really think there should be a new chapter in the Bible? I sure hope not. Does Spike Lee really think there’ll be B.O and A.O– a very clever play on B.C and A.D., by the way. Of course not. Those are examples of hyperbole (you’ll have to look that term up).

But it is the left’s hyperbole, not the right’s.

As far as that website: I don’t know if it was a “farce” or not. There’s certainly nothing disparaging written about Obama on it. If anything, it lacked editorial comment of any kind. It also provided the larger context of the statements, and links.

The problem, I think, is that the left thinks the right really thinks the left really thinks Obama is the Messiah. We don’t. We know that many of you got caught up in the excitement, and said some stupid stuff. And took some stupid pictures that made Obama appear to have a halo. And had some stupid political posters with sunlight coming out of Obama’s head. And were stupid enough to buy and sell half eaten waffles on e-bay. But the right didn’t do that– the left did. We’re just making fun of you, and you can’t take it.

In the Dartmouth speech, Obama also said, “‘I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father, Jor-el, to save the Planet Earth.”

But I guess understanding the concept of “a sense of humor” is out of place when we’re supposed to be commenting on cartoons.
