Not all of the UK approved of the release. The Hated by BigEar
    Daily Mail ran this today.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1210865/Scotland-note-Manson-Family-killer-Susan-Atkins-loses-18th-bid-release-DESPITE-deathbed.html

BTW BigEAR got thrown off today for using N word on State of Union. LOL

oldie, don’t gloat too much. Arrogance tripped him up, but I have the feeling he’ll be back. When you think of he and tiny town were one of the same kind, just opposite ends of the stick.

Oldlegodad: I read the comments right from the start and watched how the confrontation from others unfolded. The satire was not understood innocently by the Dutch poster who did not know Satipera & was unaware he’s English. Satipera, on the other hand, was confrontational which escalated the posting; with others chiming in and many deliberately misunderstanding and capitalised on the controversy by flagging. Others who were aware of the satire still took offence as they stated it was taking it too far.
Not many liked Satipera because of his confrontational arguments , and let’s be honest, his arrogance; and that was why the situation escalated, others simply took advantage of it to stab the guy in the back.

Oldlegodad, you have shown to be racist yourself. It is crass hypocracy on your part to gleefully gloat over Satipera’s banning while publically showing your prejudices.

As for the cartoon, I live in the UK. There was a deal.
I’m changing my nationality on the electoral roll which will enable me to vote in the next general election in May 2010.
    I’m tired of these wankers.

omQ R, rationalize any way you want, his post was “base”. I was one of the frst offended. I’m American but live in Europe so I caught the nuance, although you’ve summerized quiet well. As for oldlegodad, while he’s no angel, he’s just crankey now ‘n agin, you’ve a lot more posters here that are far nastier and covert that you could’ve used for illustration.

Humphries: I caught your offence and am aware of your location & nationality. I’ve replied elsewhere where I agree with your view. I don’t believe you were one of those I said drew out their knives. You called him out openly.
Norman & Magnaut are examples of those who are more covert and nastier than Oldlegodad.
Oldie, unfortunately, decided to get my goat early on despite my initially shrugging off his taunts and laughing it off.
As a South African, I really get p!ssed off when it comes to racism and especially so when it is not called out by others because they see the person who is using racist terms as an amusing cranky ol’ fart.
That’s when the harm racism does creeps in. It is given a friendly face and is accepted.

oldlego, this is a serious question … do you believe you hold racist stereotypes?

omQR, I tend to agree with you that it bothers me when racism is not called out by others … racism is strengthened by the silence of others.

a few days ago I put a question to norman (with the Calvin avatar) when he wrote something to the effect” that’s what they all do” I asked who is “they”? He didn’t respond, of course ….

I don’t look at SOTU, having run into crazy Rog oregon there and decided nope, not for me, ain’t no enjoyment out of that level of hostility for me personally

… and then there’s our resident pundit ANandy with all his whit. PS bcs, Rogey hasn’t been around a while at STOU. The wingnutz watering hole is entertaining ,sometimes, if you scan the short ones and blow-off the long winded nothing ones..

Well, immorality of the deal notwithstanding, UK is at least doing something about securing oil for its economy, while we in the US are all but committing economic suicide, by not allowing new domestic production …

The sooner everyone understands that oil is FINITE, the quicker we can move on to other sources of energy. The end of oil won’t be and isn’t pretty.

I think we all understand, but…

Wait! BP just discovered a kazillion barrels in the Gulf…

An’ an’ the price just went down to $2.39…

I better go fill up. ;-)

DrCanuck sneers: Attaboy, pete’; t’hell with morality. Lie, cheat, steal, kill, torture, go to war, do what you gotta do, but GET THAT OIL!

    It’s the American way….

  14. motivemagus

Um…the US *is* aggressively seeking oil. There has been a good deal of controversy about offshore drilling, but last I looked it is being done.
What we really need to do is find better sources of energy. Despite all the hoopla about the giant well in the Gulf, there may be a lot, but it’s a looooong way down and therefore expensive to get ($40-50/barrel) in any case.
The days of cheap oil are over. Time we admitted it and sought out new sources. I hear tell the Japanese are committing to solar-power satellite beaming, which blew my mind.

How do you know when somebody gets thrown off the blog for a posting? Do you just notice that they don’t post again or what?

^ I do remember when one of the regulars (stewiez?) made a comment about hair (let’s say he had a Don Imus moment) and the next thing you knew– POOF!– every post ever made my him was gone. His remark was over the top, and it didn’t help that the left hated him in general.

churchill, as I recall, we all tolerated StewieZ for some time, then he started spewing openly racist and obscene statements. When he was removed, all his comments I could get to were removed, too. I guess that’s how you tell: when people’s comments refer to comments that don’t exist!
