Some observers think that Ahmadinejad may in fact have won in the popular vote, although they also are sure some falsification of results was done. As one pointed out, we elected Nixon in spite of the Watergate scandal. The Iranian result may rest on the more conservative elements which are largely rural wanting what they see as a strong leader internationally.

They’re still checking out the data they can get, which is why Obama is being cautious despite the urgings of the right-wingers to reflexively reject the election. The dubious part of the data appears to be that Ahmadinejad won surprisingly heavily (and consistently) in the cities as well, which doesn’t make sense. There’s some back-and-forth on www.538.com.

Hey, THEIR “Supremes” are calling for a “partial recount”. Talk about deja vu and how this will work out. Who says Iran can’t learn from America?

The election of Obama and Ahmadinejad is proof positive that having the media on your side is priceless.

nomad2112, that statement makes no sense. The media sure ain’t on Ahmadinejad’s side!

Ahmadinejad should learn from Obummer how to win an election and keep the opposition at bay seemingly effortlessly. For starters, they could set up an ACORN-like organization in Iran. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53C2-b8BOLs for more ideas.

Dale Hopson, so the government controlled media in Iran ISN’T on Ahmadinejad’s side?

It is not nearly as simple as some of you guys seem to think. The power in Iran is not held by Ahmadinejad. He’s in only so long as Khamemei supports him…and Khamemei is in only so long as the ruling councils support HIM. So who exactly is controlling the media in Iran? As I said, it’s not all that simple.

ANandy – you lost fair and square. Deal with it. Forget the “biased media” – Fox went out of their way to smear Obama, and it didn’t work. Everyone else danced around talking about whether a black man was electable, implying that it was bad odds to vote for him, and promoting Hillary. Didn’t work. Whether you like it or not, you are in the minority. Obama won solidly, and a heckuva lot better than ol’ Dubya did in 2004, considering he won by the narrowest margin of any war president. I won’t even discuss the 2000 election. I hate looking like a banana republic.
