Comment from another forum by ‘scoutster’:

“Very sad, grew up in GM family three generations. Father worked at Pontiac division for decades. Used to drive by one of Pontiac HQ’s and foundry was right next to it. Grid Iron bar was a great place to get breakfast, frequented by auto workers since land ajoined the foundry. Down near Silverdome off Montcalm and Joslyn/Baldwin in Pontiac. Both were shut down years ago, Fiero plant was up the road on Baldwin. Loss of GM plants in Pontiac have been almost as dramatic as in Detroit. I can’t believe this will help area much. I only make it back once a year, but as a whole the city of Pontiac gets more rundown and crime ridden by the year. Times are changing in Michigan and not for the better.”

Andy’s redundancies makes me think Pontiac didn’t produce the only “goat”.

The only cars I’ve ever owned have been Pontiacs. I’m a fan of the brand. They have a fantastic lineup of vehicles that is sadly being destroyed by bad management decisions and by bad consumer decisions. Pontiac didn’t have to die. It died because consumers were shortsighted and kept buying imports. When the entire industry collapses and there is no manufacturing base left…. oh wait. That is happening. Once the manufacturing base goes and America and Canada are unable to maintain their own defence/defense industry, what will we do then? Outsource it to China? People need to take some responsibility for their actions and use their economic buying power to keep North Americans busy and the defence and manufacturing sector strong. RIP Pontiac.

Lastly, buying a North American car should be a source of pride as it is for a Japanese person to buy a Japanese vehicle. It is a source of shame to buy anything foreign in Japanese culture and in most parts of Asia. I think we need to have that feeling here too.
