This is such a tired argument. Reagan passed on such a huge debt to the next generation - us - that it caused the economy of the late 2000’s to crash. The difference is, Reagan’s/Bush’s spending all went to the rich, who kept the money out of circulation. Obama’s stimulus will go to the middle class and create jobs, and the money will circulate, strengthening the economy, increasing revenues. Just like the last Democrat called on to fix a Republican mess, Obama’s sound economic policies will create surpluses of revenue by requiring those who benefit most from the country to actually pay their share.

ANandy says:
All spending begins in Congress.
And all solutions begin in ANandys fertile mind.

I love the double standard. Before Jan 20 it’s Congress’ fault. After Jan 20, it’s the President’s fault. You cannot have it both ways.

Reagen %debt compared to the GDP was a lot less then the %debt the Big O wants to carry! So just keep up the comparison you are making a fool of your self. Reagen came in and cleaned up Caters mess i wonder who we are going to get to clean up Obama’s grand plan for spreading the wealth around nice and thin like.

ANandy, did you pay attention? Seems as though a few of you here like to generate your own historical data.

Name one spending bill that Bush vetoed. Name one war that he paid for.

It’s the economy, stupid was the 92 campaign slogan of Bill Clinton. He did manage to get this country into pretty good economic shape. Now we are going through the same thing with 2 wars that were not accounted for in Bush’s budget.

hmmm…
some may say that all Clinton really did was stay out of the Republican Congress’s way…
and you’d both be wrong…
since Johnson (at least) we’ve been on this road…some would say FDR and the “Fed” really started it…(I think it was Johnson and Nixon that got the ball really rolling)…and its all coming “due”…trying to blame one side more than the other is disingenuous at least.

redhead - while both sides deserve some blame, the Democrats have been “tax and spend,” while the Republicans have been “borrow and spend.” Which one increases the deficit?
Also, as someone posted earlier, the deficits have been consistently WAY higher in any Republican administration of the past few decades, and Reagan and Bush II set records, respectively.
