Roman Polanski: A) is a rapist, B) is a great artist, and C) should have been in jail a long, long time ago. These ideas do not need to be in conflict with one another. Bukowski wrote some of the best poetry of the century, and he was a violent, abusive drunk. You can’t consider the one, and ignore the other.

Jail Time!
The fact that it involved a child (a girl age13 in my eyes is still a child) should double the time to be served.

Samm was a child in the eyes of secular lawmakers, yeah.
When you read the actual court transcripts of the trial, and see Samantha’s pictures, you learn she was a model with a womanish body who had posed in skimpy outfits before. Also that she wasn’t a virgin, and admitted to having sex quote “a couple times” before the incident with Polanski. Also that her mom was sort of a sleazebag who wanted her to be alone with Polanski…
I’m not defending rape, because that’s what Polanski engaged in. I’m just mildly disgusted at secular law, which makes up arbitrary standards which have no bearing on what God labels as being sexually moral or immoral.
Leftists lecture me and the rest of the world on how wonderful homosexual behavior is, and declare that so long as people “consent” to it, it’s okay. When in fact it doesn’t matter what lies people make up–there is no justification for homosexual behavior under any circumstances.
Nor does a woman being 13 make her a child. Puberty determines who is a child and who is an adult. There are 13 year olds who look like girls and 13 year olds who look like fully developed women. I refuse to make “pedophiles” out of countless millions of men throughout History whom married young women with women’s bodies capable of bearing children. Secular (Godless) people love to PRETEND to be moral, by making up phony laws which call evil good, and good evil. So what? In the end, the moment their hearts stop beating and their brainwaves go flat, they’ll be done playing their little pretend games. They’ll find out who REALLY makes all the laws, and for sure it wasn’t THEM…
Fornication is fornication. A person of any age having sex with anyone not their spouse is every bit as guilty of sexual immorality as is Roman Polanski. Are you going to start enforcing fornication laws? (of which a surprising number still exist in state lawbooks, never enforced) Of course not. Godless fools deny such a thing as fornication even EXISTS. Because they hold themselves to no legitmate standards, instead making up phony standards to please their own appetites.
Bottom line: Yeah, Polanski did something quite sexually immoral. But any human being guilty of fornication, sodomy, adultery, etc is every bit as guilty as Polanski, and yet in this degenerate culture they get away scot-free. So stop throwing stones at Roman. Before Jesus kneels down and starts writing something in the sand near your collective feet…

No. Not every one drugs then rapes a 13 year old girl and the girl was. She wal raped oraly, viginaly and sodimized. Not everybody who sleeps around dose that.
I don’t care how good a child looks. When my niece was 13 she looked like Brittney Spears. She is still far to young.
If the Mom was a scum bag Polanski should have called the cops.

Ok, scott, how about we let adults (17, or 18 and up) decide when they want to have sex. What is your deal with homosexuality? Every post, you have to say something about gay people. Do you have some secret you are afraid of? What Polanski did was rape to a minor. That is prison time, with protection.
Tiny, the problem with shotguns, is you have to be close to use them. I’d go hunting with Polanski.

Those who think it is okay for statutory rape should be looked at a little closer by the law…They’re likely kiddie pervs themselves.
Besides jail, all the wealth acquired by Polanski should be liquidated and put into a child abuse/rape victims fund.
DavidDow said, 25 days ago
The facts: Thirty-two years ago, Roman Polanski, widowed, age 44, took some photos of Samantha Gailey, age thirteen, because the girl, her mother, & Polanski all thought that the girl might have a career in modeling or in the movies. After spending some hours posing & photographing, Polanski & Gailey drank champagne, took Quaaludes, & had sex.
After this event, Polanski & Gailey, old enough to be married in California with her parent’s permission, never had sex again.
The state of California charged Polanski with statutory rape, unlawful sex with a minor, and supplying a minor with a controlled substance. Polanski entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The judge voided the plea bargain and told Polanski’s attorneys that he would sentence Polanski to prison and then to be deported. Thus, Polanski fled the country, in effect, agreeing with the latter half of the judge’s sentence, deporting himself.
In 1988, Gailey, age 24, sued Polanski, and they settled the lawsuit out of court in 1993. In 2009, Gailey, now Geimer, filed to have all charges against Polanski dismissed. Judge Peter Espinoza, who heard a filing of the same sort by Polanski’s lawyers, stated that the original judge committed misconduct.
We just had a week of DOONESBURY on Roman Polanski. STATE OF THE UNION’s two cents aren’t helping. They simply distract from issues that matter: the unlawful occupations of Iraq & Afghanistan, the health-care crisis, the yawning gap between wealthy & poor in the U.S. are globally; the millions of starving & impoverished families; the financially strapped & badly organized American education system; the state-killing continuing in 3/5ths of American states; &c., &c. In addition, those quick to judge Polanski would rather we did not hold a bright light over their own lives.
TinyT, you don’t have to be Freud to see what it means to have you with a shotgun “protecting” your daughter’s virginity. (Protecting it for whom, TinyT? There’s more than one perversion going on here.)

scottfreitas said: “I’m not defending rape, because that’s what Polanski engaged in. I’m just mildly disgusted at secular law, which makes up arbitrary standards which have no bearing on what God labels as being sexually moral or immoral.”
First of all, I am a Christian. This nation was built with the intent of not having any one religious belief run the government. It does give the right for religions to worship. The term “God” as used in our money, “In God We Trust,” doesn’t refer to one particular God…even though their likely the same God with man made variations/interpretations.
So, what is a government to do? They have to look at what’s logical to be good or bad, how it impacts lives, and make laws to protect us.
Granted, under the age of 18 there are some girls with mature minds/bodies; however, it is most rare these days for them to have mature minds. The government took time to judge studies that showed when maturity occurs. They dropped the adult age from 21 to 18 in the 1970’s. This was not an arbitrary standard.
Biblical times were much different than now. Their lives were much harder than ours, which forced children to be more mature mentally at an earlier age. At that time, likely a girl was mature mentally mature by the age of puberty. Also, remember they were lucky to live to the ripe old age of 40.
Rape is rape, no matter how you look at it. To judge someone because they’ve had sex before, no matter what age, doesn’t lessen the traumatic event. The traumatic effect has been found to have a progressively greater lifelong impact the younger a person may be.
Polanski knew the law…he just chose to ignore it for his own perverted pleasure. The weasel was found guilty and ran to avoid punishment. Even if the president of the United States did this, he should be punished the same.

I never argued against the rape. I just pointed out how secular culture has redefined every act of sexual immorality into something to be celebrated, with ONLY rape and what it CALLS “pedophilia” treated as shameful.
This same culture is guilty of mass child-abuse and pedophilia for how it promotes sexual immorality in all its forms to children. It promotes both homosexuality and fornication in schools, in the media, in politics, everywhere. So seeing this same culture feigning mock outrage at Polanski STRONGLY reminds me of Jesus kneeling in the sand and writing something near the feet of the woman about to be stoned for adultery…

Why do we want Polanski to go to prison? Deterrence? Does anyone really think that sending him to prison will stop some future malfeasor from raping a 13 year old?
No, what I think is being said is the crime deserves punishment. What is the appropriate punishment for that act?
Now as you read the above think what is the appropriate punishment for someone who tortures, rapes and murders several victims? Those who oppose capital punishment, including many who argue for severe Polanski punishment, claim that since they feel the death penalty is not a deterrent we are only doing it for retribution and that is wrong.
A Polanski imprisonment would only be for retribution. Even the victim says let him go.
Should the punishment fit the crime? Let’s have some consistency.
mroberts88 said, 25 days ago
Scott, the thing with Polanski, he had sex with a minor. You backtrack, and change what you mean to say, and what you actually DO say.
Please scott, tell me, what is your problem with homosexuality? Do you want Americans to go to church on sunday?

DavidDow, which part of “date rape” don’t you understand? Do you think it’s okay for people to commit a crime and then run away before going to prison? He was sentenced.
You may not be aware of this, but prisoners who attempt to escape receive longer sentences.
No, we don’t want to set a precedence for acceptance of this sort of behavior.
No, we don’t want to ignore what’s right and wrong just because other things are awry.

“California’s first penal code in 1850 criminalized sex with girls under the age of 10. The age of consent was raised to 14 in 1889, to 16 in 1897, and finally to 18 in 1913.”
DavidDow said, 25 days ago
Alph, “date rape” is not a term involved with the case of Roman Polanski & Samantha Gailey. They weren’t on a date.
Polanski was not sentenced. He pled guilty to unlawful sexual conduct under a plea bargain with the State of California. When the judge then refused the plea bargain and threatened to sentence him for a long stint in prison, Polanski moved to France, where he is a citizen.
Wndr, please cite your source. In addition, girls as young as thirteen can still marry in California with parental permission. These sexual matters are not as clear as they might appear.

Why doesn’t it surprise me that a degenerate pervert like DavidDow would make excuses for a man who drugged then raped a 13 year old girl- we’re not talking 17 or 16, but what is still a child. She pleaded with him to stop too.
It reminds me of how the Oregonian excused our former governor Goldschmidt for having sex with his 14 year old babysitter- the headline declared it “An Affair”, not molestation or rape.
This sort of thing shows just how sick, how very perverted these leftists are. And the one thing they want more than anything is to drag the rest of us into a world where there is no right and wrong, where the sickest, most perverted actions are not only allowed, but celebrated.
So disgusting.
DavidDow said, 25 days ago
Roger, I feel sorry for you.
Mrob., Roman Polanski went to Chino State Prison for a psychological examination. He could stay up to ninety days. The prison released him after 42 days & sent the prosecutor the report. Both sets of lawyers agreed to a guilty plea for unlawful sexual misconduct and a sentence of probation.
The presiding judge, Laurence Rittenband, however, entertained David Wells, a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles, who persuaded him to send Polanski back to prison, and then deport him. Accepting this visit from Wells was misconduct on Rittenband’s part, since a judge cannot receive lawyers from only one side of an open case.
Hearing that Rittenband would overturn the plea bargain, Polanski moved to France, essentially deporting himself.
Although it doesn’t officially matter in the criminal due process, Polanski settled a civil suit with Samantha Geimer (née Gailey), probably paid her $500,000 (she won’t say whether payment was made), and she would prefer all charges dropped. He has lived in essential deportation for 32 years, after all.

DavidDow, your explaination of the the events are probably 100% accurate. And yet you make it sound ok. Listen bud, that is how pedophiles GROOM their victims. They tell them how pretty they are. They take pictures of them, they compliment them and buy them gifts. They gain their trust. And then they betray it all. But it looks like you not only already know all that, you approve of it. You’ve spent way to much time studying this Polanski thing. Is he a hero of yours? A mentor? Someone who has paved the way?
The time for justice for Samantha Geimer is long past. Polanski needs to be locked up in order to protect any other children he might wish to abuse. He needs to be locked up for society, to show all those who think that they can get away with this type of behavior that sooner or later they will get the punishment that they deserve. We need to show that if you abuse a child there will be no escape. Sooner or later you will go to jail and you will be punished.
You’re not just terrible with links, you’re terrible with moral choices and decisions.

Daviddow. You and I have never agreed but you have hit a new low. A rapist should be pardoned because he spent a 32 year self-imposed exile living the high life in Europe? A rapist excused because a judge would not agree to a plea bargain. A rich rapist forgiven because he paid off the victim? Ah, but there is precedence set by a certain pedophile pop singer. If you have fame and money, you can do anything you want to children.
In your ravings in the past you have assured me that you have no respect for our veterans nor active duty military risking their lives for you freedom. Can you have respect for our children.

DavidDow,
YOU MAKE ME SICK!!! It’s bad enough when you post your nonsense day after day about Bush lied and how bad America is and on and on and on! I’m not going to get into the whole poor/rich thing other than to say that there are some people who are poor because of their own foolish choices and that being poor doesn’t mean you can’t make something out of yourself.
What I want to get to is this spineless liberal mentality that says violent actions should never be used! You would rather see more terrorist attacks than have our country go to war to destroy those scumbags! You would rather see a perverted rapist walk free than give him the punishment he deserves: DEATH!!! He should be executed!! Unfortunately, due to our lamentable laws, the most he could get would be prison time (a mild punishment, I must say!) Still, it’s better than nothing.
By the way Scott, I am a Christian, too, and I agree with you that there is a larger issue here, and that sexual immorality (non-marital sex and homosexuality) is wrong without question or doubt!! But I also agree with Alphauno that rape (and particularly, child rape) is on another level of evil (DavidDow thinks there’s nothing wrong with it)! I also agree with Alphauno on the issue of age, but that, in my opinion, is not a topic crucial to this discussion.
DavidDow said, 24 days ago
No respect for our veterans, Lew? I completely disagree. I respect both our veterans & our current soldiers. I respect them much more than you do. I want them to remain ALIVE. You have no qualms about sending them to bleed & die for no good reason at all. None of our soldiers in Afghanistan or in Iraq is fighting for our freedom, and you insult them—and insult the intelligence of all humanity—when you claim otherwise. PLEASE: Learn something about war. Nations fight wars for reasons of power & money. Governments manipulate societies to believe that people must volunteer for reasons of defense or patriotism. It is “the old lie”, as Wilfred Owen called it a century ago. I am ashamed of you for wanting others to bleed & die just so the pockets of the wealthy remain well-filled. If you had the courage of your convictions, then you would be in the military in Iraq or Afghanistan, but you do not. You resemble Bush-Dick: Always ready to start wars & support wars but always absent when it is time to risk one’s own life.
As for Roman Polanski: Point out where I wrote that he should be pardoned. I did not. If you cannot stick to the facts, then you really should go to work & do something useful for society. If your “respect” for our soldiers means that you want them to bleed & die, then I shudder what will happen to the children you “respect”.
Garfield, I am very sorry that you have foregone your ethics & your patriotism to tell lies about me. Point out any place that I have ever said that America is bad. I have not. No one here loves this country more than do I. I find it laughable that you could say, “[D]estroy those scumbags!” & then claim to be a Christian. As a Christian, Garfield, you cannot call anyone a scumbag nor wish destruction on anyone. You know what the Christian response to 9/11 is? forgiveness for the hijackers. It is difficult, but there it is: Can you do it?
Therefore: You are not a patriot or a Christian. You show, however, that you have no self-knowledge at all, and that you are a vindictive, bloodthirsty, frustrated little person “spineless!… destroy!… scumbags!… perverted rapist!… DEATH!… He should be executed!”. I pray for you, and I hope that the teachings of Yeshua will one day enter your heart.

OMG - Polanski (and DavidDow) bashing - Ya’ll were just waiting for Davids return for your “HYPERBOLIC” Mud Slinging entertainment (see Oct. 24th SOTU comments for Hyperbolic Definition & Usage). Your attacks sound more like the angry mob looking to “burn the witch” mentality than any thing like a rational discussion.
Want to put all that anger to good use: From ABC News published 3/29/2009
”Rape Kit Test Backlog an ‘Outrage’
Tens of Thousands of Untested Kits Sit on Police Shelves”
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=7204533&page=1&page=1
Otherwise go crawl back under a rock instead of throwing mud at folks who have different opinions.
Want to learn more about prevention of Rape, abuse & Incest:
“The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network is the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline at rainn.org, and publicizes the hotline’s free, confidential services; educates the public about sexual assault; and leads national efforts to prevent sexual assault, improve services to victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.”
http://www.rainn.org/
Ok - that’s my contribution to SOTU - got better things to do today than to argue with Lug Heads fixated on Hollywood Bashing.
BTW - How many of U Bashers were “Virgins” When U Married?
Roman Polanski had to live with the images of his wife & unborn child killed by the Mansons along with the very public exposure of his trangressions. He’s already been “burned at the stake” by public opinion.

I am unsure why you laid out the facts as you did…
“Roman Polanski, widowed….”..etc etc….
I am at a loss why his marital status would be mentioned; perhaps to elicit sympathy?
[he] “took some photos of Samantha Gailey, age thirteen, because the girl, her mother, & Polanski all thought that the girl might have a career in modeling or in the movies…” (ah yes, the quintessential ‘casting couch’). After spending some hours posing & photographing, Polanski & Gailey drank champagne, took Quaaludes, & had sex. (geeee David, sounds innocent enough. Hmmmmm did he also have sex with mom? I suspect not. In the vernacular of the chef….his appetite was for veal, not tough, aged steak.~wink~
Now, to address your position on war. First you need not preach to me about war, period. You consider forgiveness for the hijackers, which is touching. But since you are so vicerally angry with former President Bush I find you disingenuous. If I accepted your summation that he was a liar, which I don’t, you have no ‘forgiveness’ for a liar, but you DO for mass murderers? Hmmmmmmmm me smells a self absorbed rat. (I know, I know.. you can take issue with other readers because you didn’t say this or that, so I will not jump on their bandwagon….you are NOT a rat….a rat does not have opposable thumbs necessary to be proficient on the keyboard, which even I acknowledge you are…(er….been writing lots of blogs have you??
wink)
