Its not racism, its politics. I didnt vote for Obama because I dont agree with him on certain things.
DavidDow said, about 1 month ago
These aren’t mutually exclusive situations. Some people voted against President Obama because of political reasons; some voted against him because of racial reasons. Part of the desperately loud loathing he receives currently from the regressives is racially motivated. Part of it isn’t.

What’s with this right-wing “if you call some of us racist, you called all of us racist” thing?
Are they the Borg or something?
Wait, don’t answer that.

There are people out there who hate Obama because he is black. I know this for a fact, because I’m related to at least three of them.
Just how common are those sort of people? I wish I knew.

Now he needs to “walk the walk”.
My assessment, for what it is worth. More blacks voted than usual because Obama is black. Some whites voted for Obama because he is black (white guilt?). Some whites voted against Obama because he is black (racism?). Some dead people and cartoon characters voted for Obama because of Acorn. But, the majority of whites voted the way they did because they listened to both candidates and voted for the one they trusted most. Now, both liberals and conservatives are wondering what happened to all the promises. It seems nearly every thinking person is disappointed. The left because he is too moderate and the right because he is too liberal. Obama has a real problem on his hands. He will have trouble winning in 2012 if he makes his base angry. However, he can’t win in 2012 without the independent vote, and they are mostly moderates.

Run Walter E. Williams for President in 2012 and see how “racist” conservatives are. He’d win roughly, oh, 100.0% of our vote…

Sold out Eastern Europe. sold out Israel, sold out Honduras, sold out Iraq, sold out the prisoners of Gitmo, has done nothing for war torn Africa, and sold out the gays in the military. I thought this president promised to help every color, nationality, and creed. Mean I can’t trust a politician?

About the comic why did so many whites vote for Obama?
Lewreader I agree with you %100 but obama came out this weekend saying he is ending don’t kiss don’t tell.
He has not set a date yet I don’t know what that means.

Again, this is another STATE OF THE UNION in which Carl Moore cannot hang a speaker by his own words but must distort them in order feebly to make his point. Jimmy Carter didn’t say that all opposition to President Obama is due to racism but that that is one motivation & is inspiring some of the opposition.
What makes this cartoon more interesting is that the questioner refers to Obama as having “leftist, big-government policies”. Obama’s policies do not create any bigger a government than did Bush-Dick. The only difference is that Obama wants to shrink the part of government that kills & maims & expand the part that helps & heals whereas Bush-Dick, in order to line his friends’ pockets, did pretty much the opposite. Unfortunately, Obama is not moving quickly in ending Bush-Dick’s bloody invasions.
When Bush-Dick came to office, the federal debt was shrinking and we had budgets that showed a surplus. He lost no time in stopping that and restarting us on a militaristic, wasteful, debt-ridden big-government course.
Thus, this strip leaves us with two reasons to oppose Obama, both irrational: he is “leftist” or he is Black. Unfortunately, that does sum up much of the desperately loud opposition: It irrationally loathes Obama, because his big-government policies are not the ones that the plutocrats running the media want, and they have spread misinformation & stirred up a small percentage of the populace to make a lot of noise.

I am white and I voted against Obama for the same reasons I voted against, Kerry, Gore and Clinton. They were all idiots.
jack75287 said, about 1 month ago
David
Carter words were “The opposition to President Obama is because he is a Black man an African American” he went on to say there is significant part of White America that dose not want a Black president. That is saying it was racism. He later back peddled and said it was taken out of context. It was not. Carter ticket off and made things worse for Obama the same clumsy why he has ticket off and made things worse for every President sense Reagan.

The second half of that Paragraph you didn’t say what part of the government he wants to shrink. Please let me know.

TinyTown, None of them were idiots. Unless you define “idiocy” as disagreeing with you, which puts you close to that definition of bigot, which is really close to racism. Once again, Hall is misquoting Carter, he never said ALL WHITE PEOPLE can’t stand the idea of a black man leading. But I know a lot of them who can’t and I know a lot more who don’t mind it at all. I -by the way- voted against Carter the second time for the same reasons I voted FOR him the first time. I may do the same with Obama, but so far, I doubt it. Oh yes, I’m white.

David, I could not agree more with your final chapter:
” …and they have spread misinformation & stirred up a small percentage of the populace to make a lot of noise.”
The 2 political parties spent millions in their campaigns, in their political leaders, and when that leader is elected, they are surprised that there puppet is not following the strings they are pulling. So yes the media is stirring up the crowd.
They simply forget that their topgun also spent millions, of the voters money!
So to get a good view of who voted pro or contra to Obama, check the checkbooks :-)
Instead of throwing money away during election, invest it something that benefits the US as a nation.

President Obama won because the public wanted a change and he ran as a “centerist”. He is an eloquent speaker and he had the public “enthralled” with his speeches. Now that the bloom is off of the rose, the public is starting to realize what they have done. Sadly, until both parties return to common sense the public will be short changed.

Idiots because of their ideas of raising taxes with unjust actions, idiots because they feel a bigger government is better, idiots because they fear the 2nd amendment and try to abolish it, idiots because they feel that people like Rush don’t have they right to announce their opinions of public radio, which makes them idiots because they do not like the 1st amendment either.
I thought I’d give examples so I would not be called a racist like you were pushing.

Re: (Bush) lost no time in starting us on a militaristic…course.
9/11?
Re: Obama’s policies do not create any bigger a government than did Bush-Dick.
The CBO reports that Obama has already quadrupled the Bush deficit; and projects that Obama will add an additional $9.3 trillion to the public debt.
True, Bush spent money at a level not seen since World War ll. That makes him one of the worse presidents…ever.
Obama will now eclipse that.
Loading up the nation with debt and leaving it for the following generations to pay is morally irresponsible. Excessive debt is a means by which governments oppress the people and waste their substance.
–Thomas Jefferson
Understand what Jefferson was saying, and you will understand why conservatives oppose Big Government–Bush and Obama.

Did not find it but here is something I did find a list of quotes on national dept from Jefferson. One scary ones says that England’s citizens were working 16 out of 24 hours a day. Very scary.

jack said: Can you tell me where the Jefferson quote came from.
Jack, my political views are influenced greatly by the writings of Thomas Jefferson–by whom I define my brand of conservatism.
Jefferson founded the University of Virginia in 1819.
The university houses a considerable number of Jefferson’s papers including letters, notes and various writings.
Here is the direct link to Jefferson’s opinions on the national debt:

You made an assertion that Obama increased the size of government.
You “proved” that by saying that Obama has quadrupled the deficit.
This comic is “State of the Union” … that was a “Non Sequitur”

from yesterday Richter, in America, those who join the military do so voluntarily, fully knowing they may one day go to war. Its horrible, and should be a last resort, unless attacked. That being said, they say they are willing to potentially go to war, those that are aborted have no say whatsoever.
I’ll say it again, I never voted for Obama, not because he is black, but because of politics. Racism, sadly, still exists, everywhere. Yes, some voted for or against mr. Obama because of racial reasons. The question is, how do we, as a nation, end racism?
DavidDow said, about 1 month ago
TinyT., never mind about calling names when it would be so easy for anyone to reply, “Takes one to know one”! How is your wife? How is little Gracie (twelve days old)? How wonderful that she will grow up in a world that is shedding the abuses of Bush-Dick & the Republicans and may begin moving steadily & briskly forward from the dregs of the early years of the millennium!
I am very sorry, though, TinyT., that your days with a new baby have left you no time to research any recent American history. You voted for Bush-Dick twice and against Bill Clinton at least once. Clinton raised taxes on the rich, presided over the strongest economy of the last forty years, and balanced the budget. Bush-Dick, on the other hand, raised taxes on you & me, presided over the worst recession of the last forty years, expanded the size of government, and amassed HUGE federal debt.
I agree, Woracle, that the major parties leave much to be desired. Two alternatives: 1. Get involved with a party to make it better. 2. Join a smaller party and evangelize heavily for it, making it grow.
Contrarian, as a percentage of g.d.p., President Obama’s budgets are not as bad as Bush-Dick’s. Furthermore, if Bush-Dick had destroyed the American economy, then Obama would not need to spend so much money. In any case, do you have any suggestion as to how Obama & Congress should have addressed Bush-Dick’s Great Republican Recession?
Thanks for the citation about Jefferson: Unfortunately, that particular webpage is a mass of quotes out of context. (Jefferson, by the way, placed the nation in debt to enact the Louisiana Purchase.)
One last note, Contrarian: By your equation of federal debt with big government AND your opposing presidents who increase the federal debt, Ronald Reagan is the worst president. His increases in the debt, in actual dollars, were even worse than Bush-Dick’s. G.H.W. Bush is another awful president, and the only president you could support in the last thirty years is Bill Clinton.

David Dow you left out the third reason to not vote again for Obama. He is a little man of only minor accomplishments, brought to to forefront by secretive benefactors and surrounded by political hacks from the most corrupt state in the nation. He reads the tripe penned by his writers well, and never makes any decision in a timely manner. The citizenry’s expectations from him get lower and lower and world leaders views are reflected in the contemptuous rocket firings by North Korea and the faint praise remarks by Russian rulers. In times like these we need a statesman with a grasp of the intricate politics of the world, something to which ‘community organizing’ bears no relation. As a nation we can do better.

Joe, who would be able to take Obamas place?
DavidDow said, about 1 month ago
Bruce, please find the evidence to support your claim that “some whites [sic] voted for Obama because he is black [sic]”. As for the little smear against Acorn, there is nothing there, particularly when compared to the most famously stolen election in American history, less than nine years ago.
I agree that President Obama is a centrist. It was a reason that he was not my first choice in the primaries. No one should find his current views any surprise. Some progressives are dissatisfied with the pace of his progress, but, after eight years of Bush-Dick, accompanied by fourteen years of Republican congresses, Obama faces a more difficult presidency than has anyone since F.D. Roosevelt, so we should expect some problems in the first year. After all, Obama’s first year is superb when compared to Bush-Dick’s.
In reply to some remarks of the weekend:
Mrob., you can feel that abortion is wrong, but you admit that there is not a constitutional reason to make it illegal. Thus, that ends the debate. The U.S. is a nation of laws, and the foundation of our laws is the Constitution.
As for your hypothetical situation concerning guns & gun control: “If I have an assault rifle, which would you prefer, a knife, phone, or gun? This is a hypothetical in which your life is on the line”: It is quite the hypothetical situation. If you have an assault rifle, then I need a ‘phone. I fear little danger for myself, since I consider that you & I are friends via this forum. I need the ‘phone, however, in case you have an accident with this pointless weapon or in case the gun hurts someone who lives under the same roof. Your owning an assault rifle (& my being near you) would make me feel slightly less safe, considering that the odds of getting hurt by a gun increase the closer one is in proximity to guns, just as the more people who own guns, then the higher likelihood that “gang bangers, felons, & idiots” will own more guns, too.
Thanks, contrarian, for citing the article about suicide using guns. Mrob., the article shows that it is impossible to tell who is at risk for suicide, and that an unlocked, loaded firearm has a high probability to be used in a suicide—not necessarily by the owner but by one of the owner’s children.
I agree that we should enforce all the current gun laws, but, considering that the Second Amendment appeals to a well-regulated militia, each community should publish on-line the names, addresses, & other contact information of every gun-owner in its community.

One thing I learned in College is NEVER SAY ” 100%, ALL, EVERY, ETC” when writing term papers. The Prof will ALWAYS find something to pick apart in your thesis.
I believe that was the point DavidDow was trying to make earlier.
