Here’s a fun fact for you! With a little careful (ie: lazy) editing, you can transform this boring little strip into an exciting simulacrum of Doonesbury! Observe:

Republicans and conservative Democrats need to not only defeat the public option, but the entire Obama healthcare plan,in its entirety, period.
Even without the public option this turkey means government intrusion into our lives on a scale never seen before. And once politicians are deeply involved in deciding who must get health insurance, at what price, what fines they must pay, etc., where does it end? Politicians won’t be able to just let Obama’s initial plan be. They will, over time, tweak, amend, change, rework, regulate until we have a healthcare system so monstrous it will eat us alive (as Medicare and Medicaid are now doing).
The only healthy way forward is to kill it completely, come back later with a more sensible approach that moves toward a truly free-market in health insurance. An approach that assumes we are all responsible for our own healthcare. It should not be our employer’s responsibility, nor the government’s. It is OUR responsibility and we must plan for it from the beginning of our work lives til the end. Of course this will never happen. Too bad. It would be much healthier for all of us both physically and psychologically.

Look, I want you to be totally honest with me: does the Constitution say a bill needs 50 votes to pass the Senate, or 60?

Sablebrush basically got it right. The “Health Care Crisis” is only partially real and it is basically created by Congress. Congress needs to insure that there is a level and fair Health Care system but instead they have created a Monstrosity with over-government regulations, and their refusal to do any meaningful Tort reform. (Gee I wonder if the fact that the trial lawyers assoc. are a big supporter of congress has anything to do with that). Tort reform alone would lower the cost of health care dramatically. Of course some Lawyers might have to go out and get real jobs.

Conservatives so deeply want Obama to be proposing a single-payer system that they are apparently incapable of noticing the fact that he hasn’t done so. Take a hint, folks. If this public option equaled a complete single-payer system, then you’d have a lot more happy liberals around.

Where do you find bigotry in ANandy’s statement?

Interestingly as I was about to reply to 2 comments above I see twright chose the same 2.
Humphries: You just validated a comment that I made elsewhere. When the Republicans attacked the opposition they screamed patriotism. when the Democrats attack the opposition they scream racism or bigotry.
BCS/ezDeb- see Humphries above anybody opposing Obama gets this all the time. Accusations of bigotry that simply aren’t there.
Ian
Together both the Dems and GOP decided to allow the filibuster which requires 60 votes to shut down. Senate rules not in the constitution. Prevents one party rule.
mroberts88 said, 2 months ago
twright, because the last administration never did anything unconstitutional, nevermind the PATRIOT ACT. Right now Obamas plan is dead in the water.

It takes 51 to pass a bill in the Senate. It takes 60 to overide a filabuster. If the president refuses to sign a bill called a pocket veto or veto’s it out right it takes a two third majority to make a bill into law to overide the veto.

twright, if it has to be explained you wouldn’t understand. - Jackey jump right in with out thinking, as usual. I’ve labled only ANandy as a bigot. I’ve shot at two others stating their posts had over tones of bigotry. And jacky pull your head out of the sand and take a look at the troubles your ANandy has had with quiet a few other posters in the editorials.

I’ve wondered about people’s choices of Avatars (picked out ole stinky here after becoming acquainted with some of the more disgusting posters - no longer here & auto censors have been a blessing as well as amusing at times.
So Y do folks choose their particular avatar? Look at ANandy’s Caricature Drawing (Avatar) of what sorta looks like President Obama along with BozOTUS he/she/it uses in it’s comments - “Bozo To Us” play on characters - disrespectful to say the least but not “racist” (just predictable since it’s used so often by ANandy).
But what I found looking at a blown-up version of the Avatar (fuzzy in the small version) is: 666 on a black man’s forehead - Racism OR ??? (inflammatory use of biblical superstition(s))
I don’t go to the Editorial Section - stated before cause of the hate-full comments as seen on SOTU in the past & why bother when there’s other collections found without the Stupidity shown by ANandy, et. al.

Simply put you are wrong. No one started anything today other then you.. End of story. The troubles I have had are with who. Far Left who came in here every day making a general insult. Satipera who was a bigot in his own right just one against Christians so you never said anything. Web and daviddow started making insults for there own fun and I stood up to them. Big deal. Could I have handled it better sure who couldn’t. The only motivation here is your own bad attitude.
Oh if it is the caricature you are still wrong. One about bush that would be fine right pathetic.

The so-called “blue-dog” Democrats are walking a fine line. Rahm Emmanuel selected the a lot of them to run in disctricts that usually voted conservative and were so angry that the Republican incumbent was spending money like a drunken sailor (my apologies to all sailors) they promised to reel in spending. With the auto bailouts and the “stimulus package” passed over the objections of the “folks” in their district they are feeling the heat. They now have to face: “What do I do please the party and receive their support or vote the way the people from my district wish me to do and secure my chance of being re-elected.”

Tiny change in your post for accuracy. 14 point increase in acceptance “amongst those who actually watched the speech”. The millions and millions who didn’t weren’t polled. It was conceded by the poll takers that more Democrats watched the speech than Republicans and Independents.
Same thing happened right after Clinton and then the approval fell.

Just a thought that came up while doing some errands
Re: ANandy (then I’ll let it go & water my garden).
ANandy - Try expanding it to “Amos And Andy” (Google it if U R too young to remember the Radio/TV show controversy)
BozOTUS gave me the idea that Good Ole Boy “ANandy” Was Having some “fun?” with “A+N+andy” (gives it a racial context).
I Could be wrong…. But Bozo The Clown was also on TV in the early 50’s….

I was out last night and didn’t see the speech. So I would not have been polled. And you certainly don’t think I don’t care enough to pay attention. There are many other ways to learn what he said. I personally almost always prefer to read the speech rather than listen. Takes away the unimportant “delivery” and emphasizes the content.

GNWachs, watching still has its advantages. It gives an idea of what’s going on in the chamber. That said, I don’t have television, so I listened to it on the radio, and I missed out on that particular advantage. (I still don’t think it’s worth it to have a tv.)
And jmworacle, you’ve got a fair point. I’ve long thought that Obama went at things in the wrong order. The stimulus package had to be first in his agenda. There was no avoiding that. But Cap and Trade should have waited until after health care reform. The Blue Dogs do indeed feel like they’ve been pushed too far. As it is, the outcome of Cap and Trade is in jeopardy, anyway, in the Senate.

Humprhies,
Look, quite honestly, AnAndy’s term was disrespectful to the president, and wrong to use. He is our president, after all. However, this does not make AnAndy a bigot. You are under the delusion that the rest of the political correct movement is under. Somehow, in your mind, any comment/insult against something a member of a minority says or does is racism. However, if the same comment were made toward a caucasian, it would not be racism. This is a double standard, and quite frankly makes YOU the racist! Racism is showing partiality to one ethnic group over another based on race. I know it exists today among ALL ethnic groups. There are many caucasians who show bigotry toward African-Americans, for example. And there are African-Americans like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Jeremiah Wright who show bigotry toward caucasians. Bigotry exists in all corners.
Actually, the term race is interesting in and of itself. If you hold to the belief that “All people were created equal/are equal regardless of skin color”, then the term race becomes divisive. If you hold to this belief, there can be only one race: the human race! I believe that there is only one race based on the Bible. God created a man and a woman and everyone descended from them. So, there can only be one race.
All this to say that while I don’t approve of the term AnAndy used to refer to our president, you can not possibly use this to say that he is bigot. That is just plain foolish.
