That sounds about right for Obama to get his approval rating up. However, the only way for us to know how good a president truly is, is in the future, as history is a good judge.

Obama has made a fetish out of “avoiding Bill Clinton’s mistakes on healthcare in ‘94.” A far more productive strategy would be to embrace Clinton’s success, which was freeing himself from his party’s left and returning to the centrist themes he had campaigned on.

For months polls have shown a huge gap between the popularity of the president and the unpopularity of his policies. Sooner or later, one of these had to give.

By the many contradictions in his speeches in which, on the one hand, he proclaims that his healthcare plan will not entail bean counters to tell your doctor what’s allowed and what isn’t, and, on the other hand, saying he will set up a commission of doctors to decide which procedures etc. will be allowed and which won’t, he reduces his own credibility and sours the public’s confidence that he knows what he’s doing.

This also applies to his constantly telling us his plan will cover 47 million without insurance and increase quality and reduce cost all at the same time, a feat of ledgerdemain no one believes for an instant.

If he’s smart - and he is smart - he will cut loose from his nutty left, move to the center, get real in his assessments of what can and can’t be done economically, shave down his overwrought ambitions for government-run healthcare, concentrate on creating a healthier environment for businessmen and jacking up the jobs numbers which is the number one priority of the American people.

Do that, and he’s good for two terms. Don’t do it, and he’s gone in 2012.

Everybody paints Obama “black” :-)) as being the worst boy in the class, who deserves it to stand in the corner with a donkey hat.
Your commentary is equally bad, so stand in the corner and think about it for a while.
Did all this moaning about the president not start with the fact that EVERYBODY can become one, if only he/she has enough money to buy a great campaign and script writer?? So next time, take the first Hobo you see on the street, dress him/her up, convince some lobbyists that this person is the best ever and watch the money rolling in. Create a nice fairy tale around your candidate and abracadabra their is your president. of course you may may take the place of the hobo, if YOU can stand all the commentary that will follow once you are elected.

Thanks for the book recommendation, but it would be too slow to take the time to read a book when responding to comments - Obviously. I like to Google (any other search engine will do) cause it’s handy & useful when someone posts someone I’m not familiar with such as Saul Alinsky (Stripper77’s Mudslinging Post) mytinytown’s definition of Socialism got me to thinking about what I’ve read about Oligarchy in other comments. I always thought Jesus was more philosophically socialist in the stories written about his life so I thought I’d have some fun with that as a posting.

mytinytown represents the sentiments of a lot of folks who are yelling at Town Hall Meetings & holding TEA Party Demonstrations around the country. My hope would be that some of those “folks” take the time to read the comments attached to SOTU & learn something that’s not taught in High School (or seen on Fox News).

Some Folks probably won’t take the time to “Google” to learn more let alone read a book that’s gonna change their views….but hey, they may learn something on GoComics;-)

The “N” word in your first post is just not used in the States - even for satirical purposes. I’m surprised at how much explicit language has been coming thru the posts the past week or so.

I was commenting (a month ago) on one of the other comics about a TV program from the 60’s (My Mother The Car) that stared Jerry Van bleeep & “Got Bleeped” till I found out I could do Jerry Vanbleeep (go figure that one out cause I’m getting auto-bleeped now even with combining the 2 words of his last name).

Ok - that was a test of the “Auto Bleep System”. Makes one kinda wonder who’s making the Software Censoring List - Too Funny For Bleeping Early In The Morning ;-))

I’ve seen this drawing before but not sure if it’s a Repeat of the same story line. After Stripper77’s Sexually Explicit Rant 2 days ago - I’m thinking he’s one of those Shills that go around churning up the waters (or it’s just Carl Moore in disguise).

Sable., President Obama is a centrist; he’s just not as centrist as was President Clinton, who was practically a conservative. If Obama were progressive, then he would have drawn up a true health-care reform plan, and we would be on the verge of getting universal, single-payer health-care, such as the English, French, & Italians—to name three—have. Unfortunately, he is—and has always been—a moderate. Note the number of conservatives in his Cabinet & amongst his advisors. Note the tiny steps involved in this health-care plan. Note his coddling of big business in his stimulus package.

In the long run, even this health-care plan will reduce costs. A universal, single-payer plan, however, would reduce costs more.

As for 2012, to whom will Obama lose? Sarah Palin? Mitt Romney? You’re proposing a ticket of regressive failed governors?

SlugQ, I wish that you hadn’t deleted Satipera’s remark. I don’t know what he said, and flagging makes this forum less open. PROPOSAL: RESPOND TO OTHERS’ REMARKS. DON’T FLAG THEM. If we keep flagging, then we become censors, and we lose the full breadth that freedom of speech loves. There are writers here—Mark Trail, Striper—whose remarks I simply ignore. I never attempt to delete them.

Kees, your remarks make no sense.

GJ, you’re welcome. Read when you’re not responding. Thus, you will gain a body of knowledge from which you can write responses. Googling brings forth a ton—or two tons—of crap. TinyT. has no knowledge of socialism. Therefore, he thinks that it’s “BAD”. His attitude toward socialism is akin to the attitude of a three-year-old being served a vegetable. TinyT. has badmouthed all media outlets without mentioning any source from which he gets his information. Thus, we can see the reason for many of his remarks.

As to the few astroturfers at these town halls, any representative with a brain in his/her head can show them for the meat puppets they are. Look at Barney Frank’s handling of them. They are a tiny minority, similar to the handful of ignorant people who think that the universe was created in six days. The American public wants health-care reform. Obama will explain it clearly next Wednesday, and its support will increase. I agree with you in your hope that others may learn something from this forum.

GJ, if what you say is true, then I can’t mention the name of one of the best situation comedies ever, THE DICK VAN bleeep SHOW. This censorship is really out of hand.

Lew, both candidates promised all those things in last year’s election. No one promised to clean up all of Bush-Dick’s messes in seven months. It’s a compliment to Obama that you think that he could.

TinyT., you are correct. Satipera mis-attributed that nonsense to you. It was Ljesseph who said, yesterday, that Canadian nurses are Chinese & don’t speak English, and that the hospitals are dirty. You merely subscribed to that statement. Thus, you must take some responsibility for it. My best to your wife.

    (on yesterday and today)

You can disagree with all the policies you want; however, I fail to comprehend why you (and really, why any other “libertarian” or “right winger” or whatever you want to call yourself) can’t seem to get the actual facts straight. You said it again today:

“… shave down his overwrought ambitions for government-run healthcare …”

It’s there in printed words that only you can edit: “government-run healthcare.” How hard is it to comprehend that the proposals in Washington ARE NOT GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE? I can only conclude that you make this fallacious attempt to construct a strawman that is more easily defeated than the actual proposal. Go ahead and prove me wrong.

Further on this point: what is this meme about “ever-larger government programs” and “intrusions into our lives”? Serious question. What are you referring to? i have not felt one iota of invasion into my life since 1/20/09. Have you? Has anyone? Enough of the blanket statements. I want specifics.

And since we are in full disclosure mode, I am not a liberal. I believe the democrats are head and shoulders in front of any other party right now in keeping true to real American values and their policy proposals reflect that; however the execution of those principles are nuanced and not always well explained. Lastly, I don’t ever want to government to tell me how to run my life; but I do want government to step in when and act when it is necessary.

Like when the private market has so bungled healthcare that good people are left hurt or dying. Like when the private market has so greedily undermined middle class America and left them hurting.

The heroes of my America are good, hard working, honest, decent people who face mountains of bureaucracy and encounter obstacles to the American dream. And it is the obligation of our government to make sure that the laws are equitable enough that everyone gets a shot.

If your feelings get hurt or you get some abridgment on your entitlement in the interest of equity, well too bad. Our common interest in equality and liberty is way more important than your selfish, insular desires.

Carl Moore proves yet again that he is of the part of divisiveness. He paints a picture of success that is to “gumdrops and lollipops” that Obama can only fail.

And Carl Moore and the whole agenda to paint Obama as a failure is truly un-American. These “thought leaders” like Glen Beck and Ann Coulter want Obama to fail, and any simpleton that marches along and likewise hopes for Obama failure is just too dumb to recognize that what they hope for is a failed America. They set the stage with impossible expectations, and then when they are not met, they gleefully wag their finger and say, “See! I told you so!”

Face it. If Obama fails, we all fail.

But these morons like Beck and Coulter and the whole Fox News crowd are not on your side. They are attempting to preserve a way of life that empowers big corporations that will sacrifice individuals to make a select few wealthy. It is the very epitome of elitism, class warfare and class snobbery. And, yet, these idiots accuse their opponents of the very sins they are guilty of.

So, bleeep it, decide for yourself. Who is your American hero? Fat-call Wall Street CEOs? Or Work-A-Day Americans?

And who are your heroes? The ones that go to bat for CEOs? Or the ones that go to fight for you and me?

I am going to have to disagree with you. Clinton became right leaning after the 94 election year when the Republicans took over congress. He was hard left before that and in his last two years was hard left again. He was practical in his politics. Obama may not be, he is alienating the Senior citizen vote with the healthcare issue. That is not practical. If Obama throws the left off the bus and that is a huge if, he will loose all that money he raised from the Daily Kos and MoveOn.org. It will be a lot harder for Obama then it was for Clinton. NBC and General Electric are not what they used to be so they cannot keep building him up.

Clinton had Wal-Mart backing him along with Tyson Chicken when they were both very healthy companies. Obama ran as a centrist yes but his action sense the election is hard left and he has a feel of grapping power like the Presidential control of the internet in an emergency is a little scary. Countries that have done that are China, Iran, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Belarus and Russia today.

Obama can be a good president he needs to cut back on his Healthcare ambitions and focus on job creation. A bill killing tax loop holes for companies opening factories overseas would be welcome by both parties. He might have gotten Healthcare taken care of his way. Focus on jobs this year get unemployment down and then he would have a lot more political capital.

Sorry Obama is making his own bed just like the rest of us.

“it may not be totally government run health care but it will get there. This plan will close the private insurance industries all by itself. Which means if you want to buy your own health care out of pocket you better be really rich or you’re out of luck.”

PROVE IT. GIVE ME ONE SHRED OF ANYTHING THAT OBAMA AND HIS CABINET INTEND TO DO AWAY WITH PRIVATE INSURANCE.

Until you do, you are simply living in fear. And you deserve to be ignored, ridiculed, and mocked for clinging to unfounded conspiracy theories.

    You also said:

“As for your whole Fox news thing. Like a bunch of pundits care about big corporations wow. ”

Let’s use this health care debate as an example.

The pundits would have you believe that health care is bad for America because it is “socialism” or “big government” or some other such seemingly unpalatable proposition.

But its all semantics. These are innocuous words that carry horrible connotations. In fact, health care reform is neither socialism nor big government. But the “Pundits” are willing to perpetuate this fraud because they know that simple minded people will eat that stuff for lunch. Because they know that people are not complex enough to get the facts for themselves.

Jack, don’t be innocent or naive. Be intellectually honest: who benefits if the government OPTION fails?

Big corporations and BIG FAT MILLIONAIRE CEOs. And who gets hurt? Millions of uninsured Americans (including children). All these “Pundits” are doing is appealing to the basest of their base’s desires and glossing over facts while perpetuating policies that don’t benefit the very people that follow them like mindless automatons.

It’s funny that this crowd has adopted the term “Sheeple” to describe their opposition, because these “Pundits” make their living on the complacency of sleepy eyed, unthinking, soundbite grabbing followers.

    The irony simply kills me.

Glad you focused in on the “Fox news thing” … that kind of single focus is exactly what I am talking about.

You don’t even realize that all that spew coming from Fox … all that conservative hoo-ha about laissez-faire economics and “no regulation” … that stuff just makes companies richer and you poorer.

  41. mroberts88

    mroberts88 said, 2 months ago

Jack, if the government option passes, big corporations will have less people to give them money. If it fails, like Editor said, big corporations and millionaires will benefit.

If the gvt. option was made available only to those who either chose to go on it, or couldnt afford anything else, yeah. I’ll support it. However, the way I understand it, Obamas plan will make it so that it is hard to stay off. I might be wrong, if I am, please correct me.

And claims that there is a mainstream liberal media bias. Its all a marketing ploy to grow their audience, and, in turn, grown their advertising revenue.

And of course the “MSM” embraces, or at least doesn’t refute the liberal bias claim, because that’s how they brand their product. They sell to a niche just as much as Fox does.

But fact is … 12 corporations own all of the media outlets in the US, and it may be less than that. They’re all megacorporations (like Disney) and they just sell you entertainment. There is zero integrity.

And it sickens me that many Americans care only for themselves and have little to no regard for any problem that does not show up in their living room.

But I’ll leave with this open question:

What if the government were to propose a plan that would allow you to purchase car insurance for cheaper rates? Would we all still be having such a heated debate?

You see, all this whining and moaning about health insurance, it’s about the dollar amount. And some supposed injustice where people feel they are going to be paying for fat slobs who don’t work. It is so utterly tiresome. And boring. And simple minded.

I’d be willing to bet almost anything that if a proposal came down to allow people an option to pay less for their car insurance, that people would jump at it.
