I wholeheartedly concur with Carl.

Borat is based actually on a guy I met in southern Russia. I can’t remember his name. He was a doctor. The moment I met him I was totally crying. He was a hysterically funny guy. Albeit, totally unintentionally.

Funny how that is, with Doctors, all quacks you know. You could do something with the Lawyers, they’re a riot.

Cohen’s satire is a brilliant exposé of people’s prejudices.
I’m not at all surprised someone like Carl Moore would be offended by Cohen.
The opening night of Brüno was a success, the next night dismal but not inexplicably. More because of word of mouth via twitter & facebook, nevermind film critics. It seems many were offended and told their mates so. A pity.

“Bruno” is bombing at the box office and for good reason - it’s just plain stupid.
Let me forewarn you of another movie that can only be described with the word “stupid.” That movie is “District 9,” one of the dumbest movies I’ve seen in quite a while.

I can admit I enjoy watching a little gay porn every now and again, but he really took it to far in “Bruno”. I think I’m actually agreeing with Mr. Moore on this one?…

no kidding, the bruno movie sucked

Sacha Baron Cohen is a “poor man’s” immitation of Andy Kauffman.

Any time a movie is over hyped as much as that one was it is bound to be a stinker.
Kind of like the way they are trying to sell us Health care in Sicko. But both stink up the joint real bad..
mroberts88 said, 3 months ago
I agree. Those movies both looked idiotic.

Sable, what didnt you like about District 9, I havent seen it yet, but it looks good. So what is so bad about District 9?

mroberts88: I haven’t seen it, not even a trailer, but I’m going to guess the flet seff effrican accents are going to be difficult to bear.

Saw District 9 last week. Best movie I’ve seen all summer. The aparthied (sp?) parable might rub some the wrong way.
C’mon Sablebrush, if you fell that strongly about it, we’d love some feedback. Seems pretty popular amongst the mainstreet critics, and everyone I’ve talked to.

Big Jim McLain?! That movie is, like, a hundred years old. Okay, over 50 for sure. How do you remember that one?
The only reason John Wayne made that movie is because it was filmed in Hawaii. It was like a vacation.
From IMDb:
The German title is Mathuana. In the dubbed version for the German market John Wayne plays a hunter of marijuana smugglers, not an investigator for the Un-American Activities Commitee ferreting out Communists, as in the original film.

Guess I’ll put District 9 on my list of movies to see on the Big Screen - Ooooh Big Bugs! My Fav Genre since the “Classic B Films” of the 50’s like “Them”…. can still here their “Screeching” Sound Effects when U Know They’re About to…
I watched the Trailer - “They Talk Back!”

…? This I will have to see, both versions! How on earth can one change the screenplay that much?
EDIT: Just watched the trailer of District 9.
Ja nee, wasn’t bleery disappointed, there were some with the flet accents. ;-)
And an original trailer for Big Jim McLean

Everything about District 9 is ugly. The tired old “the-human-is-turning-into-an-alien” bit is, well, old and tiresome. The aliens as sci-fi stand-ins for black South Africans under apartheid and showing how black people can be just as “racist” or “specie-ist” as white people is about as subtle as a Quentin Tatantino movie about Nazis. The aliens or “prawns” are ugly, the humans are ugly, the setting is ugly, the story is ugly-boring as well as ridiculous… other than that, it’s a real good ride and well worth your time and money… NOt!
Two good ones to see - “500 Days of Summer” and “Julie & Julia” are both excellent.

with all due respect,
l’ve considered dumb: meaning, not known
