Whew… that was close. I really wanted to post first so I could serve up break fast…..

I just got in from a game of Risk. I lost the world but gained my soul. So I’m serving up a little Pep cereal, Life cereal and spam. Since I have no money left after losing the world, its all I have left in my soul food cabinet.

I tried hard to keep Iceland. It was my last stronghold. I then encouraged the vice world-owner to hang onto Ontario as long as possible.

    It’s still good fishing there.

California looks grumpy today. They are tring to get to the sole issues of debt.

The Governator’s approval rating is 28%. Gray Davis, his predecessor, stood at 26% before he was recalled.

Maybe Arnold should have stayed in Hollywood making movies?!

I think he made $30 million for T3, but has refused to take any pay as governor.

    Go figure.

    FLS

Actually, the legislature is controlled by the Democrats; and the Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Controller and Treasurer are all Democrats so there’s plenty of blame to go around.

One of the things that really killed California is catering to illegal aliens that have sucked the state dry- health care, education, etc. pouring into illegals.

Check out CNN’s Lou Dobbs explaining the abomination of our governments planned illegal amnesties- on criminals, taxes, etc.

I also love how Obama, lying as he and other liberals always do, was telling people that the AARP has come out in support of the Health Care Plan, yet the AARP says, no they have not come out in support of any plan!

But then dishonest, immoral liberals never have a problem lying, however, telling the truth is nearly impossible for them!

FLS - our time? There’s more than one on the FLS? Wow.

No one should really be against types of refreshment. However, I do not know which key that is. I used more basic techniques.
I knew you’d be quick on the draw. I didn’t know you’d be so eager to roll the dice though. Why did you edit your comment? Change of heart or change of clubs?

    :)

    Have a nice one.

Mandalit del Barco reported on NPR’s Morning Edition that illegal immigration has contributed significantly to California’s $24 billion deficit.

60% of undocumented immigrants have no health insurance and use hospital emergency rooms for primary care treatment–the cost of which is borne by the state.

Over 70 emergency rooms and trauma centers have closed because they have gone bankrupt treating illegals. This is due to the fact that they aren’t fully reimbursed by the state.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich said the cost of incarcerating illegals exceeds half a billion dollars, while providing health care to illegals costs another half billion–and that’s just the expenditures in one California county.

Additionally, L.A. public schools have enrolled 300,000 illegal immigrant children at a cost of $1.5 billion.

California now spends about $4.6 billion yearly to provide services for–or to incarcerate–illegal immigrants.

This is an issue that affects all the border states–not just California.

Gov. Schwarzenegger said that border security is a federal issue, and he has lobbied Washington D.C. since 2003 to reimburse the state for the burdensome costs associated with illegal immigration.

California is becoming a place entrepreneurs, investment capital and the people who made it a global leader in agriculture, technological innovation and scientific research are fleeing. This exodus is a sign of something deeper than a national recession. It’s a sign that the attempts by politicians to tax and spend their way back to prosperity are killing California.

Entrepreneurs and investors, seeking the path of least resistance, leave when it becomes easier to make a living in more business-friendly states.

But what to do when the entire country follows California’s example as the Obamians are now doing? Unless they are willing to move to another country, what they’ll do is pull in their horns, sit on the sidelines and wait for a better business climate.

As California goes, so goes the Obama administration.

  9. DavidDow

    DavidDow said, 3 months ago

Yes, California, run by a Republican know-nothing has huge problems. Should we be surprised? For eight years, America was run by a Republican know-nothing, and we have acquired huge problems that President Obama & the Congress are now trying to fix.

In other respects, though, California’s government does not resemble America’s. Thus, Carl Moore’s thesis is incorrect.

  10. DavidDow

    DavidDow said, 3 months ago

In 1999, California had a high percentage of “illegal immigrants” and its economy was booming. It was crowing about how well it was doing. The “illegals” are an easy scapegoat—just as the Jews were for the Germans. The “illegals” are not the problem.

OK Please understand this. I have only flagged 2 types of messages.

1 All messages that directly and rudely insult someone.

2 Messages that consistently repeat themselves.

    Example of 1
Someone either calls someone else a name (beyond an idiot or such) or threatens someone else life.

    Example of 2
I can not recall both parties names, so I’ll be fair and not mention either. But there was a time several months ago when these 2 would post the same exact message about 20 times each like a couple of little children. It went on for 2 different days, it was quite annoying.

As for you, I have never flagged a post for the name “GJ_Jehosaphat”. I have flagged I believe his name was something like ronorgegon a few months ago, he was a very wise conservative that had alot of great opinions and facts, but he would not stop calling names. I will never flagged a post just because I do not agree with it. This is a direct violation of the free speech I was talking about. So once again I state very clearly, this IS a public forum, anyone any age can visit it. We need to keep this in mind when posting!!! I have posted a few rough posts a few times and I hope they got flagged and removed as well. I am usually pretty good about editing them before I post, but now and again I let my attitude get the best of me.
    __
    EDIT:
    As well when you say:
“For folks coming in after previous comments deleted - SOS a common term for Creamed Chipped Beef On Toast (aka S#!% On a Shingle OR Same Old S#!%). Menu items were mentioned by other commentors. Mytinytown must be having a ball being a ball-busting flagger.”
I have no idea what post you are referring to, I am now very curios so either re post it or somehow send it to me. I want to know if I would flag it or not.

“People use President Obama’s middle name to associate him with the “great enemy to the U.S.A.”, Saddam Hussein.”
    I do agree with this.
But you also said “America’s mass media are conservative. ”
Wow!!?? Are you serious? You think CNN is conservative? You can see how happy they are every time they can say Obama, USA’s media is FAR from the right, about as far as you can get. I also believe Fox New is the only hope we have, but in my opinion they are leaning a bit to far to the left for me. So this is probably the only good news source out there.

Sorry Mikey. The the Arnold is the only Republican. For over 12 years the Democrats have controlled the state legislature and set the agenda on expenditures. If you want the credit you got to take the blame.

The California State Legislature currently has a Democratic majority, with the Senate consisting of 25 Democrats and 15 Republicans; and the Assembly having 49 Democrats, 29 Republicans, 1 Independent, and 1 vacancy. Except for the period from 1995 to 1996, the Assembly has been in Democratic hands since the 1970 election (even while the governor’s office has gone back and forth between Republicans and Democrats). The Senate has been in Democratic hands continuously since 1970.

Connecticut has the same problem as California, a Republican governor and a Democratic legislature. The governor a woman, wants to cut programs like the Permanent Commission on Women and Latino Studies. The legislature wants to raise taxes. Forty eight states passed budgets. We have not.

  25. DavidDow

    DavidDow said, 3 months ago

Yes, TinyT., the mainstream media are conservative. They are big billion-dollar businesses, and they have much invested in things not changing v very much. Furthermore, the fundament of American television is conservative: It wants us to do two things: Watch t.v. & buy stuff. Radical notions of living within one’s means, of refusing artificial needs, of giving more to charity, of creating a society that helps everyone, of noting how the wealthy in America live off the sweat of the working-class & downtrodden—all these notions have no place on television, which is run by the wealthy.

Fundamentally, of course, what television likes is good t.v. The politics matters less. Thus, when the anti-health-care pawns are shouting at legislators, that makes good t.v. When President Obama gives a speech, that makes good t.v.
I would suggest that you broaden your sources beyond the electronic. Read THE NATION, THE PROGRESSIVE, HARPER’S, THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY, & THE NEW YORKER—five of the more intelligent magazines still published. Also, THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, THE NEW REPUBLIC, & THE WASHINGTON POST are still good.

I like that quote of Obama’s, too, TinyT. It shows that the public option in the healthcare plan won’t kill competition but will allow everyone to get healthcare. My best to your wife.

Emet, please take your squabbles off the page. This is for discussion of current national & world affairs. By the way, 5’5” is on the little side.

Roberts, California is in debt, because it’s badly run by, firstly, an idiot Republican; secondly, an idiot Democratic legislature; & thirdly, an idiot citizenry, who vote in lots of referendum proposals simultaneously with preventing increased state revenue.

@GJ - didn’t flag you. Sorry to dissappoint.

jack: Preventative care is our responsibility. Doctors really don’t teach it. WE need insight and wisdom from the eastern world and their healing using herbs, foods, etc.
Personally, I’ve been using earthclinic.com. Regular people trying regular things, with honest unsolicited feedback. I also avoid unclean meats and high fructose corn syrup. We can’t spend our time eating and drinking ourselves into sickness and then expect a pill and a $400 bill to fix us. We have to eat and drink our way out of sickness.

If I break a bone, I am going to the ER. Had a perfect necessary surgery done last year by a specialist and my fanily doctor is overworked and underpaid, but truly a great guy. If we start carefully using the God-given remedies, pharmacuetical companies will lose out. GOOD!

And Hospitals don’t need million dollar lobbys or lobbyists to provide good health care.

Personally, I am not signing onto a government health care plan. If they are goin to try and extort money from Americans that want to keep things as is and start looking for ways to avoid having to go the doctor, we shouldn’t have the extortionists in Washington charging us money not to sign up either.

And by the way, let Congress and the President try their own program on a 7 year plan and then they can let us know how it worked for them. Or how about they just use the Veterans Administration for all their health care if ‘the government’ handles so well.

Let them be the guinea pigs, not us.

I’m going on a slow and steady bike ride now - keeping my heart and muscles in shape is the only thing that helps me survive the daily asthma attacks I have. The damage is permanent, as in when a balloon gets inflated over and over again. It will never return to its original elasticity. So it is with my lungs. Its the deck I’ve been dealt in life, Even so, blessed be the name of HaShem.

As for illegal immigrants, why doesn’t the U.S. just buy Mexico, then they wouldn’t be illegal anymore. There would be more politicians, more laws, more regulation. Mexican would be a 2nd language ( I worked with a guy from Spain and he said Mexicans don’t speak Spanish, he couldn’t understand half of what they said). Pay everyone at least minimum wages and then tax them. Of course one Mob doesn’t like sharing turf with another Mob so Washington D.C. will make the drug cartel economic advisers then regulate them. And in a win-win proportion, If we buy the country, the money goes to the people and they still get to keep the land and property they already own; rather than to existing politicians…Whoops, I think I just found a problem.

    Next stop, Cuba!

California may wake up with 100,000 people leaving every year for several years now they should lose a few house of representative seats and Electoral College votes with next years census. Conservatives should pick a few up or they may go to independence people are a little sick of all the back biting just look at this blog.

DavidDow hit on a very critical issue:

‘California is in debt because (of) an idiot citizenry who vote in lots of referendum proposals…’

California’s politicos don’t have the backbone or will to do their job so they dump the responsibility of governing upon the citizens of the state through ballot propositions, referendums or initiatives.

Schwarzenegger has basically run California by way of the ballot box thus bypassing the state legislature.

He has sponsored billions of dollars in ballot measures to fund the state’s general obligations. That well has run dry, and now he is issuing IOU’s.

The state owed $42 billion in general-obligation bonds when Schwarzenegger took office. That debt now exceeds
    $150 billion.

The service on that debt is close to 6% which is a red-flag to bond raters such as Fitch and Moody’s which have downgraded California’s credit rating to its lowest level since 2003 when Schwarzenegger was inaugurated.

To their credit, California voters resoundingly rejected, by nearly a 2-1 margin, the main propositions Schwarzenegger and the state legislature had billed as “budget reform measures” in the state’s May 19 special election.

There is a famous quotation that has been attributed to different people that says:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.”

Alexis de Tocqueville, in his book Democracy in America, is sometimes credited with that quote, but it may have been Alexander Fraser Tytler.

In any case, nowhere is that a truer statement than in the Golden State.

    They promote Obama.
    They promote sex.
    They promote gay sex.
    They promote abortions.
They are mostly anti god too.

I HAVE NEVER FLAGGED A POST BECAUSE I DID NOT LIKE WHAT WAS SAID. I have flagged many posts dues to insults, threats and fowl language. As well you may not remember but DrToon was the one how suggested flagging insults and I agreed with him.
As well, I hardly flag posts. I did alot once because you could not say anything but insults and threats. I may have over done it with you a bit do to your threat upon another poster here. If you want to get technical, i have only flagged farleftside 1 time that I can recall and I have flagged mark a few times.
I have said several times, I do not flag anyone out of disagreement, I flag out of personal attacks, foul language (which usually gets bleeeeped but some have found ways around it) and repetition. Not bring up abortion once or twice a day, but re posting the same thing over and over and over again through out the SAME day.
i am done with your silly games.
