Akron to spend $1.5 million on suicide prevention fence

Akron, Ohio’s All-America Bridge, aka the Suicide Bridge, has been the site of 28 suicides in the past 12 years. The long four-lane bridge crosses the Little Cuyahoga River Valley. At it highest, it runs 150 feet above the riverbed, as well as the homes and roads within the valley. Therefor, unlike many famous leap sites, those who dive from this bridge don’t land on rock or water; they land on the backyards, patios and playgrounds of a new, upscale housing development.

Also Pews the survey company one of the best ever says that Fox has been the most critical of Obama. That is what a news origination is supposed to do.

If you take time to realistically compare Obama’s accomplishments to other presidents I think you’ll find he’s just as well prepared as many of them. Look at Reagan, an actor most of his life. president of SAG. Governor of California. For a man with a life of over 70 years before the presidency I am not too impressed with his presidential qualifications. Big deal.

What about Bill Clinton? (I want to be fair) As a single term Governor of Arkansas his qualifications werent all that hot either. I’m not even going to pick on Governor Bush, that one is too easy.

Americans traditionally don’t care about electing someone qualified to run for President. In my opinion the only fully qualified Presidents we’ve had in my life time were Eisenhower and Johnson.

I’m not done yet Mark. Let’s also compare Obama’s achievements with your average American. How many of us have written best selling books? How many of us have been elected to the Senate? How many of us have earned a Harvard law degree or been selected the editor of the Harvard law review? How many of us have devoted our adult lives to trying to help other people? He’s looking pretty good to me now.

When I vote I don’t always look for the guy with the best resume. Look at Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, George H. Bush and, alas, Jimmy Carter. All men with a lifetime of service in the federal government, in many leadership positions. And yet all had ineffective or tainted presidencies.

When I vote I also look for someone who at least understands what it is like to be just a regular person. I remember seeing Bush the 1st on TV once. He was in a grocery store and was astounded when the checker scanned the groceries. He had never seen this before. And this man was supposed to be making decisions on the technological defense of our nation. McCain didnt even know what google is. At least Obama is somewhat in touch with what life is like for the average American.

MarkTrail - Your problem with Obama isnt that you think he’s unqualified, you just don’t like that he tolerates abortion. Stick with that. It’s your one thing and you do it well. All this socialist, Comrade Obama, he’s not qualified stuff just takes away from your basic anti-abortion platform. If that’s what you care about so much, stick with it. You don’t need to make up other junk to make it stronger. The abortion issue is strong enough on it’s own.

ok dypak here is the scoop, obama never served in the military, and never dealt with the working class. he has had money to buy the presidency his whole life. and you are saying that he has done more in his life as a “working” man that John McCain? a man that spent SEVEN YEARS in a north vietnamese pow camp. that simple fact if you had an education on viet nam at all would command respect and tell you he has more mental clarity than to start campaining for re-election in the oath of office speech. where i might add that osama stated that he would NOT do anything he campained for. welcome to the downfall of the nation.

I don’t believe Obama was born with a silver spoon in his mouth but his life was much better when he went to live with his Grand Parents in Hawaii at age nine. His Grand Mother was a VP of the First Bank of Hawaii. Not as fancy as it sounds but pretty good. He had a very much upper middle class life after that.

His money to get the presidency was the new economy and yes brilliant use of the internet. Something he will not have next time because everyone else will do the same thing.

I pray that if he does, he fails. Although the military is largely right, they made an oath to defend America from all enemies, foreign and domestic, although there would be members of the armed forces on both sides. If it does happen, and I hope it doesnt, it would be ugly.

Tiny, you never know how people are going to react after being in combat. On the 2nd amendment, thankfully the NRA, and other gun rights groups are protecting it. I think it would happen alot like during the Civil War, soldiers, and officers fight for both sides. Hopefully it will stay fiction, and not fact. It would get real ugly, real fast.

Assuming you also get the weapons out of the hands of those who will harm innocent people. I’m all for getting weapons, and keeping them, out of the hands of criminals. I am, however, also against removing them from innocent, law abiding citizens. You have to remember, satipera, that it is not the weapon that chooses when to fire, or what to kill, it is the person who is using it, that decides who potentially lives and dies, who decides whether or not to follow the law. The question is, how do you get weapons out of the hands of criminals, without taking them away from law abiding citizens. I dont care whether or not someone has a fully automatic AK-47, or even a .50 cal. sniper rifle, IF, they follow the law, if they do, and dont follow the law, and decide to kill people going to work, or worse, little children in school, is one of those things I cannot stand.

Just because you make weapons illegal, does not mean the criminals are going to stop trying to get them, they are only going to go to other methods of obtaining them.

GJ_Jehosaphat. Thank you for the post but I have seen the beowolf and just because it is .50 calliber dose not mean it is the same one the .50 M-2 fires. I know I have fired the M-2 not the Beowolf. There is no way that you can put the Ma Duce round in an M-4 frame.

The Beowolf slug may have the same diameter and it dose but the propellant cartridge is much smaller.

Though I bet Sarah will have a good time taking down her next Elk or Big Horn Sheep. You go girl.

Artilleryman, I hope you get a chance to read this, I want to hear your reply. I’m not blasting you, I know how you feel about the military. I did almost 25 years myself. I think his lack of military service is a major weakness in Obama’s background. On the other hand he honestly did work in Chicago to try and help people there. He didn’t do this to get rich, he did it because he thought it was the right thing to do. Which is just about the same reason I served in the Army.

I’m going to talk about McCain because you brought him up. This was a guy that never had to work to get his achievements. McCain is 3rd generation Annapolis grad who never pushed himself because he knew his family name would get him through. All his life John McCain knew he would go to Annapolis. Daddy was an Admiral, Grand Daddy was in charge of the draft in WWI! McCain was not even born in America, he was born outside Panama City, Panama. Granted, on a naval base, but still not on American soil. McCain got his start in politics working in the White House because of political favors for his family. When his wife got to old and ugly for him he dumped her for a rich babe who had money and could finance his political ambitions.

Look, I am proud of John McCain. I think he’s an honest man who followed bad advice. He could have been president but his staff and the Republican party let him down. Do I think he should have been President instead of Obama? No, McCain should have been president instead of Bush. You’re right, McCain would have made a good President, in the year 2000. But he lost his chance and Obama beat him, fair and square.

I think your info on Obama’s childhood is just plain wrong. This guy grew up a mixed breed kid in the 60’s. His Daddy abandoned Obama and his mother. Obama ended up being raised by his Grandparents who at least gave him the chance to go to college. Once there he worked hard enough to get into Harvard. He didn’t have a Daddy to get him into college like McCain did.

The downfall of the nation begins when good men don’t listen to the truth and care more about lies, hatred and petty bigotry. John McCain would agree with me.

This is the third president from the democrtatic party since I started voting. And everytime a democrat gets in office we go through this. There is a big panic, started by gun dealers, and everyone buys lots of guns and ammo, and guess who makes lots of money. That’s right, gun dealers.

If you’re worried about people losing rights stand up for all those other rights being taken away from us, even the ones you don’t care about. The 2nd Amendment is only safe as long as those in the government know we’ll defend ALL our rights.

Dypak, the government is slowly chipping away at the 2nd ammendment. The fact is, power is addicting, and the democrats want all they can get. They want us to have to do want they want us to do, and a good way of starting, is banning guns. The pattern is, the majority of dictators, and conquerers take away firearms. Then everything else goes. All of this regardless of the public opinion.
