I ‘d like to say something about yesterday’s comments, and some overall observations.

MyTinyTown, I hope that things are going better for you today. You certainly have a lot to be dealing with, and I admire your courage and tenacity.

Now folks, did you happen to notice yesterday, after MyTinyTown indicated that he was under some unusual stress, just who asked what was wrong, if he was all right and was there anything he could do to help?

A lot of people comment here, but it wasn’t one of the regulars, or one of the conservatives. It was the new guy, DavidDow.

I also have been paying attention to who is throwing the invective around here. The name-calling, the insults, the barely-disguised profanity, and the profanity that has been robo-censored by the site. And it hasn’t been the liberals.

Saw a quote yesterday- “Invective is the last resort of one who has a feeble argument.” I would encourage folks around here to pay attention to what they’re saying. If your argument is solid, you have no need for insults. Either it flies, or it doesn’t. Insulting other posters really only shows that you are lacking in tact and self-control. And it does not make you look manly or powerful or correct.

And Someguy53? I find that every time you address me, you seem to feel a need to attempt to insult me by altering my screen name to ‘slug queer.’ This really is pretty silly. For one thing, it says a lot about you that you think it is an insult to call someone ‘queer’. It appears that you have a personal problem about gays.

And for the record, I’m straight. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being gay.

I’m going to step out of my ‘schoolmarm’ mode now and go find some ice cream. It’s unseasonably hot around here.

Got a chuckle out of the guy (Allen Stanford) sitting in jail waiting for trial for another Ponzi Scheme. Re: Headline from CNN online:
”Stanford feels the heat in Texas jail”

    http://topics.cnn.com/topics/allen_stanford

As for Someguy53 - Re: “Dollars to doughnuts…”

Dollars to doughnuts means ‘most certain’ or ‘most assuredly’. It comes from the idea of betting. Betting a dollar to a half-dollar, for instance, means that you’re giving 2 to 1 odds–you’re willing to risk a dollar to win only a half-dollar.

Being willing to bet dollars against doughnuts (viewed as worthless) means that you’re totally confident that you’re right, so confident that you’ll bet money against nothing.

    http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19970210

My interpretation - Someguy53’s so-called opinions are pretty much *Worthless”

WARNING: Anyone stupid enough to go to a website recommended by Someguy53 called “moonbattery” should have their Anti-Virus Spyware Set To HIGH AND should also run a Security Scan to locate any possible Contamination (as well as have their head examined)!

Oh, Someguy, I read some of Moonbattery. It has many problems. Thank you for showing it to me, because I’m sorry if you read it each day. It’s distorted, inaccurate, bigoted, & superficial. I feel sorry for its writer for going through his day wearing such a poor set of glasses.

Someguy, if by “B. Hussein”, you meant President Obama, well, we don’t know exactly who voted for him, but I did, and I am fairly well-informed, and so did 69,456,896 others. Obama received more votes than Bush-Dick ever did, and beat Senator McCain by a wider margin than Bush-Dick ever won an election. Over fifteen million more people voted for Obama than voted for President Reagan at the height of his popularity in 1984.

Indeed, Someguy, more people voted for Barack Obama than have ever voted for a presidential candidate in the history of this country. No wonder Moonbattery sits at home & gnashes his teeth.

Thanks, SlugQ., for the kind words, but I don’t think that I asked whether I could help TinyT. How can we internet-acquaintances help much? Each of us is hidden in our own little box, but I did ask about home & family. I hope that TinyT.’s homelife was easier last night.

I agree with you about the name-calling. It may stem mostly from the reactionaries, but it’s wrong no matter who does it.

    DavidDow said, 4 months ago

Roberts, it’s clear that you know little to nothing of prison life. I doubt that there is any prison in which inmates have cellphones.

TinyT., you are correct that cartoonists, typically, create their daily strips about 25 days before they are published. This places a responsibility on cartoonists to stay up-to-date, however. Cartoonists cannot hear a topical joke & immediately use it in a strip that won’t be published for a month, so IanVal.’s point is still valid. In addition, Satipera’s mentions of FOX News don’t yet equate with MarkT.’s creepy obsession with teenage girls genitalia. I take your point, though, that Satipera doesn’t get anywhere with a constant mention of FOX except to give it more publicity, and what everyone should do is ignore all the news channels. They are all shallow. FOX is the worst, but the others are only marginally better. Anyone wanting political intelligence & knowledge needs to read good newspapers & magazines. Although DEMOCRACY NOW is an exception, I can recommend that to everyone. I’m sure that Satipera reads THE TIMES, so he is ahead of many of us. (Besides, don’t forget: Satipera agrees with MarkT. about abortion. He, too, would want to re-criminalize abortion and, thus, rule over teenage girls’ privates.)

TinyT., I don’t pray, but I hope that you will accept my daily good wishes for you, your wife, & your children’s now-super-clean heads.

Wow, Someguy, I don’t know whether it’s the effect of Moonbattery on you or whether you were already prone to this level of shallow gullibility or whether you are Moonbattery, but you make baseless claims about President Obama’s great victory last November. I love, though, that part of your rationale is that young people were duped into voting for him, because a generation ago, Ronald Reagan won the presidency on the backs of Young Republicans. So, were those young people dupes then, too?

Your argument, Someguy, reminds me of one I heard from a friend last fall. He told me that our fellow citizens were intelligent, because our state had gone for Senator McCain, then, with his next breath, he said how lazy & stupid our fellow citizen were for not rearing their children to be excellent students as he had.

I will agree about the point he should be more responsible in “up to date” strips. But I was just letting him know that it may not be 100% his fault.
I know Satipera does not mention Fox that much. I was just trying to push his buttons. I do not agree t hat Fox is the worst, I believe CNN holds that title, but I am somewhat like you in believing that news networks are not all that great in any form. BTW I am 100% against abortion, I am just usually not as vocal about it. I can get that way though. Thank you for your wishes. Personally I wish you would pray, but that is because of my belief and religion.
    Thank you!

Now, TinyT., don’t waste everyone’s time & space here, trying to bait others. On many forums, that gets you called a troll & barred. I am 100% for legal abortion, since I believe in equal rights for women. I find little need to be vocal about it, too. I prefer to give money to places that provide abortions or abortion-related services for poor women & girls &, otherwise, to work locally to ensuring general abortion rights. I support N.A.R.A.L., and I see how difficult it can be for many women to find an abortion provider, but I trust that we have the country moving slowly on the right direction again, and, of course, abortion will never be banned. The Supremes have affirmed & repeatedly re-affirmed every woman’s fundamental right to her own body. All of that is more constructive than blathering about it at some forum. As for prayer, I wish that you would cease your religious belief, but let’s let bygones be bygones on this matter. I agree to respect your belief if you agree to respect my unbelief.

Roberts, you need to write more clearly. I see, now, that you meant your phrase “rich guy’s prison” as a parody, not a comment on laxness in minimum-security facilities. Your latter remarks are more interesting: “I know what swords are, and somewhat how to use them, and I have a gun”. Very Freudian: Enjoy yourself.

Anyway, the good news of the day: the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Judge Sotomayor, 13-6, so she will be confirmed next month, and will begin in October. Now, we just need to encourage justices Kennedy & Scalia toward retirement. Unfortunately, that won’t happen until President Obama’s second term, so we must re-elect him, which shouldn’t be too difficult. Not to sound like CNN &al., but whom do the Republicans have to challenge him?

I won’t end every remark this way, but in the spirit of poor misguided Someguy, permit me to recommend, again, http://www.democracynow.org/.>

First off, I NEVER voted for Obama. Of the 3 friends that I asked, 1 voted republican, he’s into guns BIG TIME. As much as I am. The other one didnt vote. I’m 21, I know how dumb kids can be, the people who voted for Obama dont know what they did. I dont panic when a street light turns yellow, I keep on ahead, or if some time has passed, I stop. Although I voted libertarian, I was hoping McCain would win. The only reason I am not full Republican/Conservative, is because of gay marriage, I think if two people want to get married, so be it.
I believe in gun control, in that you should be able to HIT THE TARGET! Honestly, that was my first “rodeo”, voting and all that. I look forward to voting Republican next time. Obama was anti-gun, and that will turn me away from ANY candidate, as well as him being too much hype. Just for the record, if you have stayed with me so far, I never watch MTV.
Do not lump me, and my friend, in with those who voted for Obama. Although you may think of me as “just another kid” I know what I’ll be doing this time next year, police academy. I will not vote for Obama or those other liberals.
