Funny thing, Spock- those guys didn’t cheat on their wives while preaching the whole ‘wholesomer-than-thou’ Family Values thing. Over and over. And trotting out their wives and families while doing it. There’s a word for it: we spell it h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e.

Ok - check the temperature - is it getting cold in here or is He## freezing over cause I’m more in agreement with Carl Moore today than FarLeftSide et. al.
Infidelity In Marriage is not funny when U R the partner/spouse of someone who’s been foolin’ around. Makes U feel like U’ve been a “Fool” (speaking from experience of one who felt like a fool for believing their lies). I’ve never been married - prefer Freedom to do as I choose…
Hillary Clinton deserves the “Stand By Your Man” award for hanging in there after what Bill did…
Saw Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton on one of the news interview talk programs Sunday - she is GREAT & is trying to make changes in the world - the peaceful way via diplomacy (probably learned a lot being the wife and partner and friend of Bill!) She also talked about how she shows the world that even though she ran against President Obama & she now works with him as Sec. of State that it shows the world that’s why democracy is such a great concept! Get over the Past & move on…

Just saying - be professional & something that I learned in Integrity Training Class - think about what U R doing & what “IT” would feel like if IT made the Headlines if IT was discovered - there is no such thing as “discreet love affair” especially with cell phone cameras, pocket size cameras & 24 hour News (and YouTube).

Let me get this straight, we allow our elected officials to break their wedding vows but believe they will live up to their office vows. Where is P.T. Barnum now that we need him for Chief Justice?
As for our esteemed Senator from Massachusetts, I believe the official story was that he got confused after his watery mishap. They wanted to nominate him in 72 so he could learn crisis control with his finger on the button.
I guess I should watch Dr. Phil and Oprah so I can forgive and forget..

Re:Chappaquid-dick-ing: Historic Background - No Excuses for what Kennedy did back then - he was at a party according to the article. Doesn’t give any indication too much alcohol may have impeded his judgement? Even so, It Was Wrong Not to notify police when it happened (not 10 hours later)
“…Shortly after leaving a party on Chappaquiddick Island, Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy of Massachusetts drives an Oldsmobile off a wooden bridge into a tide-swept pond. Kennedy escaped the submerged car, but his passenger, 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, did not. The senator did not report the fatal car accident for 10 hours.”:

Oh they do huh? So Bill resigned? NO IDIOT HE HAD IMPEACHMENT TRIALS, the second President in history. You are just dumb.

mytinytown said, 3 months ago
OK I will say a few things about this weekend.
She is very low on iron, making her much more moody and on bed rest But this I can handle, not a big deal. But Sunday morning almost ready to leave for church she found head lice on our 2 1/2 yr old!! Talk about gross!!! So since she is pretty much on bed rest I had to strip everything down and clean it. Talk about a PITA! She is 7 months pregnant and the Dr told her she could use the expensive 2 month and older shampoo 1 time and ONLY 1 time. She also had to use it on our 17 month old. I feel disgusting right now and have no idea how we got it. No one we know has it and we don’t have many friends that could have gave it to use.
So after a tiring weekend do to extra work to keep her on bed rest I had to bust my butt with the other crap. SICK!
BTW If she finds out I posted this i will be in trouble!!!!!!!!!
So I am stressed and very worn out today. She is going to the Dr. today for the iron transfusion.

TinyT., I sympathize with you, your wife, and the two children. The older child probably got it from daycare or from a neighborhood playmate. You need to call the child’s day care & parents of the child’s friends. Lice don’t come from nowhere.
As for today’s cartoon: There is no shortage of politicians with sexual peccadilloes, male & female. One difference is between those who are publically sanctimonious and those who are not. Another difference is between those who put public office at risk and those who don’t.
Governor Sanford behaved publically foolishly and may have used his office for private gain, but one cannot condemn him of hypocritical sanctimony.
It’s time for Americans to grow up & not worry about politicians’—or anyone’s—sex lives. As long as elected officials can perform their jobs, then what they do on their time is their business.
Along with this, and thinking of hypocritical ex-Governor Palin’s whiny farewell speech yesterday, let us discourage politicians from parading their spouses & families before us, because you cannot have it both ways: You cannot preach puritanical sexual mores, You cannot parade your family before the public, and then violate these mores & have your children violate them, and not expect to be judged on that. If you want the press to “leave your children alone”, then you must leave them at home & not press your nose into other families’ private business.

I think the funny part is when “They” get caught. The Not so funny is what their family goes through. Bill was impeached for being “caught” in a lie. Gov. Sanford has tried telling the “truth” only to find himself digging a deeper hole (now that’s funny & he should hang his TAIL down - LIMP).

Bill was impeached for repeated sexual advances during his political career as governor of Arkansas and President. The lie was irrelevant, but that’s all people remember.
Only two presidents were ever impeached by the House of Representatives and aquited by the Senate, Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.
Why hasn’t any of the celebrated Bush-Bashers anywhere ever talked about ol’ Dubya’s infidelity.
DavidDow said, 3 months ago
Because, Nobod, there are enough Bush-Dick crimes without needing to bring up his infidelity, his rampant illegal drug use, or Laura’s hit & run homicide. We don’t need ‘em. Amid his neglect of the warning about September 11th, his lies about Iraq, his torture of kidnapped foreigners, his mishandling of two invasions, his corrupt deals in re privatization in Iraq & in re our energy policy, and his ineptitude about our own economy, we can safely state that Bush-Dick is the worst president since Richard Nixon.

Well, it seems that the people have their say when it comes to immoral conduct with their representatives. When the evidence against congressman Foley of Florida
of his misgivings surfaced he was bounced out office. when congressman Frank was exposed for his shenangins he gets re-elected. Two edge sword. When a member of the G.O.P. is even accused of something “the estabishment” of G.O.P. is the first to throw their people under the bus.

Woracle: 1. Mark Foley was precisely the kind of sanctimonious hypocrite I mentioned earlier. 2. He was chasing under-age congressional pages, thus, compounding his self-loathful closeted homosexuality with pedophilia and with on-the-job sexual harassment. 3. If his constituents thought that his work as a representative overbalanced this hypocrisy, this criminal behavior, and the denials of his sexuality, then they could’ve returned him to office. Your complaint is with the voters in Foley’s district.
Congressman Frank, on the other hand, is hardly a sanctimonious hypocrite. He has been forthright about his sexuality. When he discovered what his ex-boyfriend had done with his official residence, he brought it to congress, which reprimanded him for his negligence. Naturally, the voters in his district found that he had been punished & didn’t want to lose such an honest & effective representative.
2Cents: By enumerating some of Bush-Dick’s faults, crimes, & miserable work, I was merely replying to Nobod’s question. Except for (1) Recalling the terrible state President Obama inherited, & (2) Wondering when he & his associates will be indicted, we needn’t think any more of Bush-Dick.
Wachs: Even given Jimmy Carter’s mediocre performance, the work of Ronald Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, & Bush-dick was worse. We have had a pretty bad run when Bill Clinton is the best president of the last forty years.
In re the strip: It’s interesting that Carl Moore decides to take an easy shot against Governor Sanford, who gets nothing but pity & disdain from me, and ignores the important issues facing the country: the misguided occupations of Afghanistan & Iraq, the Great Recession, and policies on education, healthcare, & energy.

Daviddow: Objective criteria for either superior or inferior performance is hard to come by. I may be misreading you but by some strange coincidence the worst Presidents were Republican and the best Democrats. I would guess that reflects your politics. Carter was BAD. Reagan was the best in my lifetime and I am old. W was bad, Clinton OK and Obama will turn out, at this rate, to be a disaster.

Okay, man. Step back and breathe for a minute. Think rationally about it for a minute and you’ll realize that this is not the definition of liberalism. I am a liberal, so I have a particular view of the role government should play in society.
You, apparently, are a conservative (or libertarian, or something else), so you no doubt have a different view. Surely we can discuss the relative merits and demerits of our ideas without saying that one or the other will “ruin America”, eh?
mytinytown, I am really sorry to hear about the awful weekend. Best to you and your family.
DavidDow said, 3 months ago
Wachs: “Criteria” is plural, not singular. Historians generally agree upon the criteria for what makes a superior president. Over the course of the last fifty years, the rankings of presidents haven’t changed much. The U.S. has had three great presidents: one Federalist, one Republican, & one Democrat: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, & Franklin Delano Roosevelt, respectively. We are overdue for another, and I hope that President Obama will be he. The presidencies of both Lincoln & Roosevelt followed a string of mediocre to dreadful presidents & began as the country faced disaster. Obama’s presidency holds both those qualities.
Historians’ judgment on the presidents of the 1970s is fairly certain. Ronald Reagan’s presidency receives a variety of opinions, and opinions about the more recent presidents are unsettled, as one might expect. Historians want to wait to see how things turn out. It’s hard to envision, however, how either Bush presidency could receive rankings above mediocre, considering that the former presided over a large recession, ignored the crimes of the savings-&-loan debacle, encouraged Saddam Hussein, & then turned on him, while the latter’s presidency has all the flaws I listed above plus many smaller flaws & will, most likely, receive one of the lowest rankings.
Although Bill Clinton also showed great failings, his economic policies resulted in the best economy of the last thirty years; he eradicated the federal deficit; and his presidency slowed the widening gap between rich & poor that had grown drastically in the twenty years preceding Clinton.
In any case, we needn’t argue about it. We need merely help pull Obama in a progressive direction: toward ending the occupation of Iraq & cleaning up Bush-dick’s bloody mess there, toward a stable, democratic government in Afghanistan, toward cutting the bloated arms budget, toward universal healthcare, and toward narrowing the gap between the wealthy & the poor in the U.S. & around the world.

DavidDow: Historians … Unfortunately subjectivity reigns supreme when any self selected expert group decides superiority with no objective criteria (plural). The Pulitzer committee and Nobel committee make decisions and years later the world is amazed at whom they missed.
Reagan’s accomplishments were obviously not those which you prize. FDR’s many many faults were not those you decry. Subjective.
Obama’s beginning is an absolute disaster. If I understand liberal thinking if 85% of a population are doing from adequate to very very well and 15% are doing poorly than the country is a failure. To me if 85% are doing well we have a rousing success. Never to be forgotten is that for 5%-10% nothing will ever bring them success. They are the losers, drunks, druggies etc. I will expend all my energies on the 85%- as did Reagan- note election results.
johnnydoc5 said, 3 months ago
He must have. He got 85%+ of the electoral vote.
David, I agree with your earlier point about politicians sexual endeavors. I don’t care if they do it on their time with their money.
I would like to point out that although Clinton proposed a balanced budget, he never actually erased the deficit. Please correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I remember learning.
I have to agree with GNWachs about historians, it all depends on who you ask, and they are probably all biased a little.
DavidDow said, 3 months ago
Wachs, when you have something of substance to say, then please write. Otherwise, you are supplying a lot of wind. You have not taken any of these rankings apart to demonstrate their absence of “objective criteria”.
The Pulitzer & Nobel Committees have made many mistakes. None of those committees contains “self-selected experts”. Thus, that is merely an anagogic fallacy.
Feel free to enumerate Ronald Reagan’s accomplishments & failings & Franklin Roosevelt’s accomplishments & failings, and we can discuss which was the greater president.
As for President Obama, it is much too early to judge anything. He has been in office for six months. He inherited a worse situation than any president has since Abraham Lincoln. You can say nothing of substance to support your windy pronouncement “absolute disaster”.

est Budget deficit fiscal 2009 in June 2009 after the Obama rescue of economy $1.86T (69% increase)

I agree with GNWachs, and disagree with DavidDow. DavidDow needs to realize that those who shout names at others are slandering them. Saying all those things, and namecalling, at the same time, leaves you open to libel, and doesn’t make what you are saying true. Calling Mr. Bush a liar is the biggest lie of all. My sons are in the military, I know that they found and move a huge amount of yellowcake to Canada. Mr. Bush began the war as a response to our invasion, any other president would have done the same. They do the best they can, your Mr. Obama will, too. He is a better speaker, and that will help him, if only he stops to think about what he is saying! Apologizing to Germany? See the following letter regarding that:
This is an editorial that appeared in the Griffin, Ga., newspaper, written
by Pastor Herb Flanders of the United Methodist Church.
Dear President Obama,
As I gather the Sunday before Memorial Day to worship with two United
Methodist congregations I pastor in Griffin, Ga., I’ll think about some of
your recent comments. I’ll be thinking of what you told a crowd of about
2,000 in Strasbourg, Germany, as you spoke of our nation’s views of Europe -
“Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you
to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown
arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”
The gray, balding heads on the people who worship with me attest to their
years of toil and labor on this Earth. They are, as Jesus said, the ‘salt
of the Earth.’ They are grandmamas and granddaddies, blue-collar folks who
worked hard to build a community and raise families, to give to others when
they had precious little for themselves. They continue to do these things
today.
‘Salt of the Earth’ they are and heroes to boot.. When this nation called,
they answered with a resounding ‘yes’ and went where Uncle Sam asked them.
A couple of months ago, we laid John Busbin to rest.
Like you, he visited Europe on behalf of the U.S. He beat you there by 65
years and spent his time marking and clearing mine fields, not giving
speeches. Rather than being arrogant, dismissive or derisive, John
partnered with the French and others to meet a common challenge. Others did
the same, sailing on ships, slogging through mud, or soaring through the air
because evil and tyranny were well on their way to taking over the world.
I wish you’d come May 24th and sit with these folks as we sing America the
Beautiful and America. I’d like it if you could sit up front with me when
Maxine Bunn and Jerry Turner do a medley of military service hymns and the
veterans or spouses of deceased veterans stand when their branch’s hymn is
played. They grab hold of the pew in front of them to pull themselves to
their feet. I know I’m in the company of giants.
I’d love for you to meet Janie Worthy and understand those tears that still
glisten on her cheeks each Memorial Day Sunday.
Janie married John Pershing Botkin in August 1943. Their daughter Gail was
born Aug. 10, 1944, three or four months after John shipped out to Europe.
Janie, 19, went to St. Mary’s, Ohio, to stay with her in-laws after Gail was
born. One Sunday afternoon in early December, farm families began to call
each other as the postmaster’s Model A made its way down the country roads.
They knew that car carried news that would shatter a family and were trying
to figure out where he was headed. He stopped in front of Janie’s in-laws’
farmhouse. Her daddy-in-law walked out to meet him and learned that John
was killed in action Nov. 11, 1944, serving with the Army in Alsace. Cpl.
Botkin never saw, held, or kissed his little girl. As a father, you can
empathize with Janie’s salty tears.
Perhaps if you could come, you’d see why your words hurt so many so much.
America may be many things, and she certainly isn’t perfect, but heroes with
whom I share my life have hardly been arrogant, dismissive, or derisive of
Europe. They’ve given themselves to save Europe when Europe couldn’t save
itself.
So, Mr. President, get out of Washington for a weekend and take a trip down
to Georgia. We’ll feed you some barbecue over in Williamson, and I’ll
introduce you to some friends of mine, some everyday giants and ordinary
heroes.
God bless,
Herb Flanders
Let’s circulate this as much as we can; who knows, maybe Mr. Obama will see
it, too.

Wachs: Fiscal 2009 is Bush-Dick’s last budget, not President Obama’s first. Fiscal 2009 began on October 1st 2008. Obama’s first budget will be fiscal 2010, beginning October 1st 2009.
In other words, in the last year of Bush-Dick’s presidency, he more than doubled the federal deficit from $454.8 billion to $1.08 trillion. This is a shining part of Bush-Dick’s legacy: the greatest one-year increase in the federal deficit in history: 137.5%.
Obama has increased that deficit to $1.84 trillion in an attempt to fix Bush-Dick’s Great Recession while not utterly denying all of our troops their needs. This is an increase of 70.4%. Obama’s first budget, however, will shrink the deficit to $1.26 trillion, which is still too high, but he is working from the handicap of eight years of presidential mismanagement and twelve years—out of the last fifteen—of congressional mismanagement, when the Republicans in both branches spent money they didn’t have like coke-fiends with other people’s credit cards.
As for unemployment, it has risen, and it will rise further. Again, no president, handed this legacy of mismanagement, will look good in only six months. If you have anything of substance, then I am glad to read it.
Teague: I hope that your sons come home intact, having performed no slaughter. I hope that they get real jobs in the free-enterprise system soon.
I appreciate the editorial, Teague, but the minister must remember that Christianity shows no allegiance to any country, celebrates no military service, and never takes up arms but, instead, turns the other cheek. I was impressed with Obama’s honest words & find it a shame that more Americans can’t see themselves as a part of the world.
