Oprah and Whoopie must be pretty smart to have out-smarted all those Republican capitalists. And Obama is no where near liberal enough. Besides, Marxism is SOO Twentieth Century. Obama is a pragmatist and a centrist.

I personally cannot think of one ethnic group that hasn’t been enslaved at some point in history. Where is the most slavery in the world practiced now? Don’t say it, it isn’t PC

Hey, GJ, know what Jesus wouldn’t do?

He wouldn’t hold people accountable for the sins of their ancestors.

And guess what? My ancestors were slaves when they came here in the 1650s. And they were white. And you don’t see me griping about it.

    So there.

    God bless.

@satipera4: whatever it is you are trying to promote, I’m not buying it. It has left you very bitter.

    I need clarification…

You approve of Ravensinger’s comment that the people here are irrelevant human feces?

Jor-El - That part of Ravensingers comment may have been a tad harsh.
What I do believe is that it is largely a waste of time to post here.
True, there have been a few decent discussions along the way.
However, for the most part SOTU is a playground where pompous children posture and pretend towards importance.
If anyone believes that they are doing their cause any good here, I fear they are deluded.
Childish arguments and parroting tired rhetoric accomplishes nothing of any lasting value.
I doubt if anyones opinion is often changed by the rants posted here.
If a person is truly committed to a cause it would be better to go out and do something in the real world.
Campaign for a politician you believe in, write letters to your congressperson, run for office yourself.
Posting comments in the ridiculous cesspool that this page has become is ineffective.

satipera4 - Yes I do realize that my own comments here do no good and will change nothing.
However, Jor-El took the time to seek me out and leave a message on another page to let me know about his comment.
It at least deserved a semi-coherent response.

Like I said yesterday, find the best people for the job, and go from there. And for this whole WWJD comment, as I qoute Jesus “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”

GJ, Jesus stayed around the low levels of society, tax collectors, etc. Your life is what YOU make of it, so try and make the best of it, and dont complain when it doesnt work out.

I am concerned: I agree with doctortoon.

Oh, it’s because he defended Jor-el, who is A-team.

    I am no longer concerned.

@satipera4: from you always is heard a discouraging word and your skies are just cloudy all day. That’s why you come across as bitter.

Jor-el - If it helps any, Ravensiinger has other aliases under which he has posted. He was once a regular on this page, as was I at one time. It appears that he has come to the same conclusion that I have about SOTU. I predicted months ago that if things continued as they were, this page would become the joke of Gocomics. I rarely see a week go by without someone referencing SOTU as a bad example of internet behavior.

Satipera, it was not I who brought up Jesus, remember. I only returned comment. Also, I said nothing evangelical in nature. Merely commented on fact of history and ancestry.

Ergo, your comment is rendered moot. But thank you for recognizing my mission in life (The evangelical thing, not the irritating thing.) And I would LOVE to know who the two are before me. Perhaps we can get together and pray for you to be a bit more joyful and not so negative all the time.

    Have a nice day.

And GJ, for one who uses the name of Jesus in an argument, and who has a user name taken from one of Judah’s most godly kings, you don’t understand much about loving-kindness or forgiveness. It is a pity.

Satipera, I’m not 100% certain what “it” is. One should not use pronouns unless one has antecedents.

And why on earth would I ever want to put “it” in a cave?

EMET, I tried golf. Not very good I’m afraid. Neither is my husband. So we stick with putt putt. And shuffleboard. :)

I’m not much for guarding backs, either. I do however, find it rather sad that you feel that all “white folk” have no idea what it’s like to be rejected over something they were born with.

Tell that to my “white” husband with Cerebral Palsy who can’t get insurance.

I love dogs! Perhaps we could walk together and wax philosophical about the ahem nature of nature? ;)

Librarian, you’ll have to excuse my ignorance here, but what, exactly, is Cerebral Palsy, and why cant your husband get insurance. Putt-Putt is awesome, I prefer it over golf, mainly because I’m horrible.

    Satipera, what exactly is “it”?

  21. LibrarianInTraining

    LibrarianInTraining said, 4 months ago

I’m not backing any of what EMET said. Nor do I particularly agree with things he’s said in other places (since I haven;t read any of them but what’s posted here). I only mentioned to him that I wasn’t fond of golf. Just because we agree on something (like a particular view point) doesn’t automatically mean we’re like minded in every respect.

And just because people go around spouting Scripture and slapping themselves with the label of Christian doesn’t mean they are. Compare a Christian’s walk with what Jesus says. I believe it was Ghandi who said “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians, because they are nothing like your Christ.”

I commend your parents for their service to the church. (Though one could argue that going to church no more makes one a Christian that living in a garage makes one a car.) I’m sorry if they failed to treat you with respect due from parent to child. (They certainly hadn’t read the passage in Ephesians 6 about fathers provoking their children to wrath). I’m glad you found it in your heart to forgive them. It was a very noble and gracious thing.

If you have asked forgiveness of God and repented, then you are, indeed forgiven, and i rejoice with you.

    And MRoberts:

According to Wikipedia, Cerebral palsy (CP) is an umbrella term encompassing a group of non-progressive, motor, non-contagious conditions that cause physical disability in human development.

According to me, if you despise medical gibberish.. erm… jargon, it means my husband has a limp and a slight stutter.

Not that that means ANYTHING to insurance companies. One look at those letters CP, and it’s, “I’m sorry, sir, but despite the fact that you get up every morning like any normal person and work your tail off for a living, and haven’t needed any medical care in 6 years, I’m afraid you’re uninsurable.”

And of course, he makes too much for Medicaid. Not that he’d take it anyway. he says it would be better used for people who need it most.

Thank God for my wonderful man!

Mike aka farleftside don’t you see just a little cowardice in yourself when you create a comic strip that is your best stuff and then write in whining at your own alter ego every day.

GJ we don’t need to know what it is like to be a human of color we are humans anyway and we are tired of being called bigots by anybody and everybody who hates anyone who is the least bit of a hypocrite. So no we will not take your invitation. If this is about the Prof. Gates guy even a lot of black people think he was a douche. If I am caught breaking into my apartment I will have to show an ID and some proof that it is my apartment. I can even give you a personal example. A cop came to my door, was looking for a guy who bounced some bad checks. I just moved in so I had to show him my driver license and my rental contract. If I had refused to open the door I would have been arrested. If this is not about Gates sorry to bother you.

Yes, Mr.Spock, I did see it. I haven’t had time to pop over there just yet, but it looks promising.

If you’re interested in a blog on popular culture, I can recommend one maintained by a very dear friend of mine. I’ll include the link below. The author is my Mass Media Professor from college, and we have a rather strong friendship, even though I’m no longer at that school.

He’s a bit of a movie buff, but he’s also fascinated with comic books.

I hope you enjoy as well.

On the Gates thing: Obama did the right thing today by calling Crowley, the cop, on the phone. Though he didn’t explicitly apologize, he voiced regrets in speaking too soon without knowing all the facts. He also called Gates and suggested they all meet in the White House.

This is classy stuff on Obama’s part. He’s saying to everyone, ” This incident is regrettable and all of us are good people who simply need to back off, cool down, diffuse this thing and move on.”

Obama is a terrific guy personally and these actions confirm that characterization of this man. Though I disagree with him on most issues, he’s a class act and I’m proud that he’s our president.

Sable, I agree, what Obama did was VERY commendable, although he shouldnt have said it in the first place, good job saying what he said.
