The context of the JFK quote from his Inaugural Address:

“The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe – the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

This much we pledge and more.”

My liberal friends, please don’t infer that I’m using President Kennedy’s words to justify a war with Iran.

    I am not!

    Just food for thought…that’s all.

    @Parson1:

Hope this wasn’t too long for you.

And then JFK told Robert S. McNamera to pay any price for liberty in Cuba and Vietnam. LBJ kept that Vietnam promise aiive, and followed through by paying any price to end the killing fields of Cambodia.

Weak presidents like Nixon and Reagan tried diplomacy in a feeble attempt to open China and “Bring down that wall!”.

Obama’s tentative response to the Iranian situation and his calling for the return of Zelaya in Honduras, and his constant apologizing for America on his foreign trips, have put him in that most ignominious of ignominious categories - the Jimmy Carter category, a place so sad and wimpy, he may never recover.

Obama needs to get some gonads and start defending this country and the people in the world trying to climb out of despotism and stupid government. If he keeps on with this Carteresque approach to foreign policy, he will go down miserably in ‘12.

Iran Topic ReVisited - I remember some discussion a while back regarding US involvement in Iran in the early 1950’s. While Googling to learn more about the History of Iran, I found some info but wanted something more historical documentation, rather than OPINION!

Googling 1974 The Nixon Doctrine Iran History
I found on page 6 of the results:

    http://isd.georgetown.edu/Iran_WG_Report.pdf

“The events in Iran in the late 1970s provide a clear illustration of what can happen when U.S. strategic objectives collide with domestic realities in a region of vital importance to U.S. interests. It also illustrates some of the difficulties that can arise when decision-makers are confronted with events and information that do not conform to commonly held assumptions or a long- standing and favored strategy.”

Ah - 1974 & the Nixon Years. A History Lesson on what happens when “meddling” in Other Countries Affairs.

BirishB (Sorry all the way from Thursday, if you read this)
My comparison to Hitler is more on the lies he spoke to get control of a nation, not the radical movement he made to kill millions of people. I have never suggested this to be the part I made comparisons to.
Here let me put it this way…
Hitler pushed hate and lies to get control of the people of Germany.
The democratic party is trying to take control of a nation and push hate and lies to get control of the United States. But since you are spinning what I say, I’ll play along. What will happen IF the democrats succeed? I have no clue, will it be the annihilation of millions of people? I doubt it, but who really knows the parties true agenda. I know they want the 1st and 2nd amendments abolished, so I guess it could be.

Jor-El Re Yesterday’s comment by parson1 “Does anyone actually read those long post from Jor-El?”

I know I do & it looks like other folks do too!

    Ditto to BirishB’s Comments

Thought-Full comments are making S.O.T.U. more interesting than the comic strip. Boorish comments have taken a remarkable drop in their frequency.

Boy, those people that are holding Farleftside hostage and are forcing him to read State of The Union are pretty good at not getting caught! And shame on you Carl Moore for critizing “The Benevolent One’s” foreign policy! After all, he is following the blueprint of “The Carter” doctrine and look how well it made the United States “loved” all over the world.

‘There is no liberty without the law.’
    -Charlton Heston (Moses)

He was speaking of the commandments of God.

The is no liberty with the US laws. We are in bondage, as they were in Egypt.

Democrat, Repubican - all of the same lot.

    and @ the ‘toon …

No one appointed us the World Police force. And it is no threat to liberty to allow sovereign nations to deal with their own messes.

And who says that the America policy on Iran, as presented to the public, is the totality of the situation? This is public posturing; if you think nothing is going on on the DL then you’re just naive. Rest assured, America, in some shape or form, is involved in or is at least monitoring Iran.

More importantly, whatever happened to walk softly and carry a big stick? Why is it suddenly weakness to want to resolve conflict without military involvement?

I just don’t get it. Because we don’t have boots on the ground, we’re doing nothing? And because we are not publicly waving a gun, that means we have no interest in liberty and democracy?

I suppose, instead, we should just broadcast our intent on CNN so that dictators in other countries would know our troop movements?

Or maybe we should just ‘shock and awe’ ‘em?

Better yet, maybe we should just bomb, bomb, bomb … bomb, bomb Iran?

Global diplomacy is not a wild west shootout. You don’t shoot first and ask questions later. Despite the desires of our previous cowboy leader, we don’t have to go around shooting everybody to get our point across.

Thanks EMET for lead-in “Charlton Heston (Moses) - Perfect for PSA regarding Water!

someguy53 posted yesterday “Let’s all cry a friggin’ river for J-Phat. Boo. Freakin. Woo.”

My comment yesterday gave a Reference Link to Cities in the US & Air Pollution. Today is Reference Link to Water & the Envionment during Bush II’s Lame Duck Era.

    Time Article titled:
“George W. Bush’s Last Environmental Stand”
    “Published Wed. Nov. 5, 2008”

    http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1856829,00.html

Sounds like Bush II before leaving office may have been trying to put:

    a) Water in the Gas Tank
    b) Sand in Auto’s Oil Reservoir Spout
    c) Big Wad of Gummy Stuff instead of Gum-Out
    d) All of the Above

America needs to get more diplomatic, instead of always sending in the military. I’m not saying dont, just only when necessary, and Iran is not a necessary situation. Iran got into this, let them get themselves out, we should worry about Mexico a little bit more.

The Constitution was in error - the pursuit of happiness is not a right. It’s that pursuit that leads to greed.

    tiny …

    Chose not to respond.

    But since you asked:

I find the comparison so utterly asinine and out of left field that it isn’t worth my time.

You can’t parcel out one aspect of Adolf Hitler from another. if you make any comparison to Hitler, you get the whole package – demonic practitioner of genocide and all.

I need not spin anything to know that when you conjure up some mythical parallel between the democratic party in 2009 and Adolf Hitler that you are comparing an American political party to a thing that represents the death of 6 million so-called undesirables.

I’ve met people with tattoos on their arms. They are real human beings. And they’ve suffered enough already. They don’t don’t deserve the indignity and shame of being used for fodder so you can make some ridiculous point in an internet chat room.

I find that you live your life in a world of paranoid delusion. You really think the Democratic Party is trying to take over America? That it wants to take away your rights?

I don’t know how you sleep at night living under that blanket of fear.

I have a whole lot more to say, but my mother always told me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say …
