Does this mean we can take a breather today?

    Time to laugh:

A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.

The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republican’s pocket and gave the homeless person fifty dollars.

Now you understand the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

A little boy wanted $100.00 very badly and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened.

Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100.00.

When the postal authorities received the letter to God, USA , they decided to send it to the President.

The president was so amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill.

The president thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy.

The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to God, which read:

    Dear God:

Thank you very much for sending the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you sent it through Washington, DC., and those crooks deducted $95.00 in taxes.

Jor-El Re: “Time to laugh” Sounds like a good topic for today.

I think I’ve heard the first set of Democrat jokes from one of my other brothers (the one who broke up with his girlfriend because she was Democrat). He also taught me how to cut bait (fishin’ for fish as well as liberals). He would also “cut the cheese” and Laugh when you “caught wind”- kinda gassy - PUUUUU…ewe (female sheep joke for all those into Animal Husbandry).

Liked the Reagan list too. Did he write them or did he have good writers? Bush II could have use some better writers with some of his gaffs.

My favorite Reagan news video clip was where some reporters were asking him questions while he was walking across the lawn with Nancy. Not aware how sensitive the microphones can be, you could hear President Reagan “parroting” the words you could hear Nancy saying in response to the reporter’s question.

Later it was revealed that President Reagan was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. That’s when I had more compassion for Nancy Reagan (it’s horrible to watch someone U love lose their memories) and then I applauded her efforts around her support for stem cell research.

But HAY - I voted for Nixon in 72 while under the influence of my relatives!

He should do himself - and us - a favor and purposely keep his overexposed image out of the news for a day or two each month.

Now that’s a policy I can get behind.

    Here’s one for the collection:

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes northlatitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

“She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Republican.”

“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help tome.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Democrat”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are or where you are going. You’ve risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it’s my fault.”

Here is some information on Obama and his Democrats.

Senate Democrats are Pushing for Vote on the ‘Pedophile Protection Act’ –

ALERT: There’s a dangerous bill sitting in the U.S. Senate right now – one that liberal Senators want to sneak through without anyone stopping them. If this bill that the U.S. House passed isn’t STOPPED in the Senate, here’s what can happen, according to Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX):
If a mother hears that their child has been raped and she slaps the assailant with her purse, she is now gone after as a hate criminal because this is a protected class. There are other protected classes in here. I mean simple exhibitionism. I have female friends who have told me over the years that some guy flashed them, and their immediate reaction was to hit them with their purse. Well now, he’s committed a misdemeanor, [and] she has committed a federal hate crime because the exhibitionism is protected under sexual orientation… You see someone spying on you changing clothes and you hit them – they’ve committed a misdemeanor; you’ve committed a federal felony under this bill. It is so wrong.
Rep. Gohmert is right: IT IS SO WRONG!

But now, the Senate is ready to PASS that bill and send it to Barack Obama to sign into law –

Whatever happened to “equal justice for all”? As Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) stated, “Under this bill, justice will no longer be equal. Justice will now depend on the race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other protected status of the victim. It will allow different penalties to be imposed for the same crime. This is the real injustice.”

Look, we all know that every year, many violent crimes are committed out of hate. But just as many violent crimes, if not more, are motivated by something other than hate – whether it’s greed, jealously, desperation, or revenge, to name a few. A person’s motivation for committing a violent crime is usually complex, and often we can only guess as to why he or she did it.

Every violent crime is deplorable – regardless of its motivation. Every violent crime can be devastating not only to the victim and their family, but also to the larger community whose sense of safety has been violated. That’s why ALL violent crimes must be vigorously prosecuted.

But this bill goes MUCH, MUCH FARTHER that simply prosecuting violent crime – it creates a new “protected class” of people that would now be protected under “hate crimes” definitions. That means that this bill will protect all 547 forms of sexual deviancy or “Paraphilias” listed by the American Psychiatric Association! This would provide a HUGE MASS of “sacred cows” in our society, which includes pedophiles who would be given elevated protection – giving “the offender” an additional decade behind bars.

And that “offender” could be YOU! If a pedophile tries to molest your daughter, or your nephew, or your granddaughter, or some little boy in the street – if you step in and beat the pedophile to get him away, YOU could spend ten years in prison for your “offense”!

I am NOT exaggerating this. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), who supports this horrendous bill, admitted that the bill would protect all 547 forms of sexual deviancy listed by the APA. Here’s what Hastings said on the floor of the U.S. House itself:
This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these “Philias” and fetishes and “isms” that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this rule.
Apparently, supporters of this bill have no problem with sexual deviants, including pedophiles, getting a higher level of protection against you and me!

Don’t think that some people in the House didn’t try to stand up against the Thought Police crowd. The House version of the so-called “hate crimes” bill was adopted on a 249-175 vote, but not before several amendments were proposed by Republicans trying to mitigate the impact of the draconian law.

For example, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) offered an amendment that was very simple: “The term sexual orientation as used in this act or any amendments to this act does not include pedophilia.”

The majority Democrats refused to accept that amendment – or any OTHER amendment along the same lines!

Far-leftist Senators Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) have introduced the bill into the Senate. However, because of the OUTRAGE they’re hearing from their constituents – YOU AND ME – they’re going to try to sneak in through by adding it as an amendment to a completely different bill… and Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid has reaffirmed his plans to have the Senate vote on this dangerous bill before Congress’ August recess!

In George Orwell’s classic book, “1984,” the State was constantly cracking down on what they called “thought crimes” – that is, you didn’t face prosecution just because of what you DID – but also because of what you THOUGHT.

That is EXACTLY what this so-called “hate crimes” bill will do – it blurs the lines between violent belief, which is constitutionally protected, and violent action, which is not. If we go down this road, where does it end? With speech monitors and thought police?

As Janet Porter of Faith2Action noted, “Pushing away an unwelcome advance of a homosexual, transgender, cross-dresser or exhibitionist could make you a felon under this law. Speaking out against the homosexual agenda could also make you a felon if you are said to influence someone who pushes away that unwelcome advance. And pedophiles and other sexual deviants would enjoy an elevated level of protection while children, seniors, veterans, and churches would not.”

Rep. Gohmert warned that this law would be used against pastors – or anyone else – who speaks against homosexuality or other alternative sexual lifestyle choices, saying that it provides that anyone who through speech “induces” commission of a violent hate crime “will be tried as a principal” alongside the active offender.

Critics say that would allow for prosecutions against pastors who preach on biblical opposition to homosexuality if someone who hears such a message later is accused of any crime. A pastor’s sermon could be considered “hate speech” under this legislation if it’s heard by someone who then commits an act of violence against someone based on “sexual orientation.” The pastor could be prosecuted for “conspiracy to commit a hate crime”. Don’t think it could happen?

    It already is.

Similar state laws have already resulted in persecution for Christians. In Philadelphia several years ago, a 73-year-old grandmother was jailed for trying to share Christian tracts with people at a homosexual festival. In Canada, which already has severely restrictive “hate crime” laws, government “Human Rights Commissions” review any “suspect” speech or actions that might be perceived as being against any of their “protected classes.”

So today, Canada has a major national magazine, a federal political party leader and a registered political party, a major Catholic newspaper (Catholic Insight) and an internationally renowned journalist (Mark Steyn) – all of whom are being investigated by appointed “hate speech therapists” from the commissions. Even Focus on the Family, one of the largest Christian publishing and broadcasting organizations in the nation, has admitted that it has been reviewing, and if necessary editing, its broadcasts to avoid complications with Canadian “hate crimes” laws.

THIS IS WHAT WE FACE IN OUR FUTURE – unless we take action NOW to stop this bill in the Senate!

An earlier post mentioned that there must be a cover up going on if the Obamas werent in the news. It was a joke, but it had a grain of truth. Even though I think the guy is doing a good job I don’t completely trust him (or any of the other ones either) and think we need to know what he (and the rest of them) are up to all the time. We didnt have half this coverage on Bush/Cheney or even Clinton and look at the crimes they got away with.

  24. Jor-El

    Jor-El said, 4 months ago

    @Dypak:

As a conservative, my perception was that the American press actively campaigned to get Obama elected.

For example, Chris Matthews (MSNBC) said that Obama sent a tingle up his leg; and that it was his responsibility as a journalist to ensure Obama’s success.

The “Fourth Estate”, as so described by Edmund Burke,
    is more important than that.

The press has to be a watchdog over the politicians.

Where are the antagonists like Woodward and Bernstein?

In a free and healthy society, I want the media to investigate and expose corruption and incompetence whether it be Republican or Democrat.

It’s not the media’s job to make Obama look good.

Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Lafayette, wrote:

“The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary to keep the waters pure.”

Note that Jefferson suggested the press be a source of “agitation”.

I want my leaders to read the papers each morning and go to bed every night “agitated”.

Hold their feet to the fire always.

U.N.C.L.E stood for “United Network Command for Law and Enforcement”

THRUSH stood for “The Technological Hierarchy for the Subjugation of Humanity and the Removal of Undesirables.

Doesn’t seem to fit the acronym like UNCLE does, but that’s what I found when referencing:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057765/faq#.2.1.1

I also read in one of the references that Leo G. Carroll (Mr Waverly) made an appearance on Laugh-In - THE S.H.O.W. that replaced The Man From UNCLE. Can’t remember if I got the humor then, but I do know! Thanks for the challenge - I’m stumped on the one over at T.N.A.Q.V.

Good one - OK now your turn. I heard a familiar voice while watching an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies. It’s the one where Ms Drysdale’s father tries to take the Clampetts to the cleaners. His charater’s name is: ” Lowell Redlings Farquhar”. I had to google to find out where I’ve heard him before. The answer I’m looking for is cartoon related.

    Striper 77:

You intrigued me so I read the bill:

    http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-s909/text

Now I happen to disagree strongly with hate crime laws, but I do think what has been posted strongly misleading about the proposed bill.

First keep in mind as you read that “sexual orientation” is already defined by federal statute as applying only to “consensual homosexuality or heterosexuality,” thereby excluding pedophiles and the other “paraphilas”. No matter what Rep. Alcee Hastings has said, he was misinformed.

Rep. Louie Gohmert should know better after having served as a chief justice on the 12th board of appeals. In the case he mentions:

“If a mother hears that their child has been raped and she slaps the assailant with her purse, she is now gone after as a hate criminal because this is a protected class.”\

This is obviously outside the purview of this change in the law. The current federal law regarding hate crimes deal with crimes where the offender is motivated by a bias against a race, color, religion or national origin and this bill would add gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability to that list. PEDOPHILES AND ALL PARAPHILAS ARE NOT INCLUDED ON THIS LIST, but even if they were, this isn’t an example of a case that could be prosecuted under such a law. In Mr. Gomhert’s case of the mother, her motivation is decidedly NOT just because she hates pedophiles, but anger over what the pedophile did. Even if she attempted to kill the man, she could not be prosecuted for a hate crime. Which by the way only covers bodily injury to any person or, through the use of fire, a firearm, a dangerous weapon, or an explosive or incendiary device.

I and although I agree with Rep. Lamar Smith:

As Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) stated, “Under this bill, justice will no longer be equal. Justice will now depend on the race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other protected status of the victim. It will allow different penalties to be imposed for the same crime. This is the real injustice.”

Unfortunately I would like to point out that there is much precedent for the motivation behind a crime altering how it is punished, for instance: When considering first and second degree murder we consider the motivation behind the murder, in some cases we even look to pleas of self defense or passion. But if motivation really doesn’t matter then all such cases should be treated the same during sentencing, which really puts me in a logical trap of my own devising, how can I support the separation of crimes of passion from calculated ones, yet disagree with hate crimes? I’m not sure how to reconcile it, but I’m sure I will eventually.

But I feel you go a little too far in your statement:

And that “offender” could be YOU! If a pedophile tries to molest your daughter, or your nephew, or your granddaughter, or some little boy in the street – if you step in and beat the pedophile to get him away, YOU could spend ten years in prison for your “offense”!

Once again, no, this is NOT the way this bill works or is worded. This bill does NOT offer protection to pedophiles or paraphilas. Sexual orientation ONLY refers to homosexuality and heterosexuality. It’s a good statement to drum up support against the bill, but it is misinformation.

She’s incorrect here. Free speech has not been in any way degraded by this bill, nor is your ability to say no. Come on people, physical contact isn’t “bodily injury to any person or, through the use of fire, a firearm, a dangerous weapon, or an explosive or incendiary device” nor is your motivation to hurt them because they’re gay; it’s to hurt them because they are sexually harassing you which a wholly different can of worms.

Rep. Gohmert warned that this law would be used against pastors – or anyone else – who speaks against homosexuality or other alternative sexual lifestyle choices, saying that it provides that anyone who through speech “induces” commission of a violent hate crime “will be tried as a principal” alongside the active offender.

I find this disturbing, primarily because true Christians would never advocate hate or violence, no matter what reason. But also because the only mention of speech in the entire bill is to protect it:

Sect 10.(3) CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTIONS- Nothing in this Act shall be construed to prohibit any constitutionally protected speech, expressive conduct or activities (regardless of whether compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief), including the exercise of religion protected by the First Amendment and peaceful picketing or demonstration. The Constitution does not protect speech, conduct or activities consisting of planning for, conspiring to commit, or committing an act of violence.
So as you can see, it doesn’t turn anything that isn’t already a crime, magically into a crime.

    You say:

Similar state laws have already resulted in persecution for Christians. In Philadelphia several years ago, a 73-year-old grandmother was jailed for trying to share Christian tracts with people at a homosexual festival. In Canada, which already has severely restrictive “hate crime” laws, government “Human Rights Commissions” review any “suspect” speech or actions that might be perceived as being against any of their “protected classes.”

Well here is the actual case:

    http://www.paed.uscourts.gov/documents/opinions/07D0096P.pdf

Arlene Elshinnawy (the 73 year old grandmother you’re speaking of), is a longtime activist and was part of a group of protesters. The offense was not sharing the word of God; they were arrested only after they refused a police order to go to an area on the edge of the event. In fact the entire thing reminds me of watching people get arrested while they protested at the RNC in NYC. Here is an excerpt from the court transcript:

The Police and defendant Simmons told plaintiffs they had to move because they were blocking attendees’ access to the vendors’ booths. Pls’ Summ. Uncontested Facts ¶

    1. Simmons Dep. pp. 72-76; Fisher Dep. p. 88, Tiano Dep. pp. 76-77. Chief Inspector James Tiano ordered plaintiffs to relocate to 13th and Walnut Street, an area on the perimeter of OutFest near a large gay bar named “Woody’s,” a popular event location. Pls’ Summ. Uncontested Facts ¶ 34; Tiano Dep. pp.78-80. Plaintiff Marcavage responded that the group was not leaving the event. Municipal Defs’ Statement Undisputed Facts ¶ 22. Marcavage, the leader of the group, instructed plaintiffs to move in a different direction than the one the police requested. Id. ¶ 37-41; Marcavage Dep. pp. 354-55. Chief Tiano ordered that the police place the plaintiffs under arrest for disorderly conduct, disobeying the order of a police officer, and related charges. Municipal Defs’ Statement Undisputed Facts ¶ 29. Prior to his arrest, Marcavage lay on the ground in a form of civil disobedience. Id. ¶ 30.

Now I don’t like hate crime laws, and have never agreed with them as laws, but if you pepper your argument with unfounded statements you only serve to weaken your own case.

LibrarianInTraining: I don’t see any particular Bugs Bunny ‘toon on your comments. I’m an aficionado so I may be able to recite lines from memory.

    @boldyuma and GJ_Jehosaphat:

    A+!

    Now, regarding GJ_Jehosaphat’s stumper.

(And let me just say, we could do this all day!)

I used to watch Hillbillies’ reruns on TBS–very funny. I recall the character’s name Lowell Redlings Farquhar.

Charles Ruggles was the actor who played Farquhar, and he was also the voice of Aesop on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

    This is fun.

One of the tag lines on Laugh-In was…”Want a walneto?”

Walneto was a popular candy back then.

Does anyone have a favorite childhood candy they can’t find anymore?

    Mine is Switzer’s Licorice.

And Jor-El, my grandmother is a huge fan of ribbon candy at Christmas. Unfortunately, the only place I can get it locally is at the Cracker Barrel some 30 miles away.

Doesn’t stop me from going every year, though!

Ha! When did the comments here become fun to read?

Good work GJ, Jor El and Librarian!
Back to the strip, I would tend to agree with Jor El and Thomas Jefferson. I think that the media, with exceptions, seems to like Obama too much to expose any faults.

LibrarianInTraining - thanks for the repeat link posting. I found it myself with using easy search parameters. Good thing about learning computers before hard drives were available is knowing how to do it in AND/OR/NOR dig logic!

I’ve been busy in & out getting ready for going to a good old Country Fair. Yummm - buttered corn on the cob & watching live entertainment. If I seem silent this week - I’m at the Fair!

ps - I didn’t go high up in the comments posted - some are pretty long winded & I didn’t see the link near to the top.

WoW - I’ve posted before to embarrass some comment posters that if they use a word often enough, it “helps” the search engines “find” relevant topics (common knowledge to most web savvy folks).

I just Googled: “gocomics pedophiles” without specifying anyone’s “name”. This comment may make it to the list - “THIS IS ONLY A TEST”. Give it a rest. This particular comic strip is sandwiched between family oriented comic strips.

I’m going on holiday & won’t be around with my “bar of soap” to clean up some of the discussions. I hope/pray the folks at GoComics take their Auto-Bleeping Software & kick it up another notch & bleep out some of these @*#%!!! pedophilic discussions.

Take it to the Editorial Section. U never see me posting comments there. I go to other web sites for my editorial comic humor - where I know I won’t be offended by someone’s bizarre obsession with pedophiles!!!!!

U know who U R (STRIPPER77) - can’t hide by changing Avatars & Names (it’s a digital fact - there’s no such thing as erase key (it’s all binary 1’s & O’s formated into an “easier to understand” machine code language - unless U want to ReFormat Your Hard Drive - I don’t know if taking a really strong magnet will “erase” memories anymore….

KIDS - DON”T TRY THIS AT HOME! I’m using a little tongue-in-cheek here to make a point!

    @GJ_Jehosaphat:

Our county fair just closed. The food was…great?

    Fried chocolate-covered bacon…fried twinkies…fried Krispy Kreme chicken sandwiches…fried oreos…

…and fried ice cream for dessert.

Oh, and the fried Snickers bar.

    Plop, plop…fizz, fizz…

Jor-El - Thanks for the Good Humor — Man. Oh What A Relief It Is….. “Burrrpppp” Ah. Feels good after a good rant.

I like Jon Stewart’s take on Baconaise (TM) that he dips a pancake wrapped sausage on a stick. I was in a grocery store last week where I watched 2 women get excited that they found a jar of it. Ewe!!! Double UU on the Fried Chocolate-covered Bacon.

Sounds like another discussion on Health Care Reforms - from the dietary perspective! I’m going back to the Tele now - America’s Funniest Videos is on.

    JarrodM,

Thank you taking the time to do some research on your end. I hope what you came up with is true. Not that I agree with any of the hate crimes.
However, according to the web sites below they match what I have stated.
