And the pro-big business cabal did such a good job… of running our economy into the ground! If that’s what ‘experience’ gets you, I think we can do without.

Someguy53 - weren’t you paying attention a couple of weeks ago? Re: Bush II had a MBA (not NBA, although he did play some ball & was head chearleader). For reference - from the CBC:

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/bush/

“He was head cheerleader, played varsity baseball, basketball and rugby.”

“After earning his MBA, George W., like his father, went into the oil business in Texas. George senior had got rich in the oil industry. The son’s oil company failed, and was bailed out by relatives and powerful friends of the Bush family. Then, the best job he could imagine came along. He became part owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team.”

A variation of something Oliver Hardy used to say comes to mind: “That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten US into.”

farleftside - I visited farleft-ville today. Good play on Dennis the Menace & the Wilsons. The tv show was another favorite from the early 60’s (liked the earlier version better than the more recent movie). I’ve driven thru Tucumcari, New Mexico - beautiful, but hot hot hot.

Right! - No business leaders on his team (unless you count Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE - the world’s most respected company, which among other things is using national and international resources to produce a workable, lower-cost health care system, clean coal and wind power, clean water, jet engines, etc.) . But he didn’t include leaders of the American auto industry.

Workable, low-cost health care? One trillion (just print the money)debt going to my children so non-workers, deadbeat dad, and people who refuse to pay their share can enjoy the same benifits I worked for all my life

Find this boring display of “wit” or lack there of… Try today’s Stone Soup or go over to New Adventures of Queen Victoria (loved yesterday’ take on wii’s & transformers) or the past few weeks of 2 Cows & a Chicken.

Happy 4th of July! I’m getting ready for an enjoyable day of celebration! I’m am thankful to be living in such a Great Country - almost moved to Canada (also a Great Country) in the 80’s after the election of Reagan - there was a lot of fear that George Orwells “1984” would become reality. Oh - it did in the Bush II years.

Well try not to get tooo sunburned today & enjoy life!

Oh and Bush W always picked the most experienced person for the job? Anyone remember good ‘ol Brownie, FEMA and a little thing called Katrina? All that Arabian horse experience really paid off big time.

  12. jmworacle

    jmworacle said, 4 months ago

reese828, If Govenor Blanco hadn’t sat sucking her thumb while Katrina approached the diaster in New Orleans wouldn’t have been as bad as it turned out. Look at what happened in Mississippi which received the brunt of the storm’s fury. The govenor acted deciisivly and that helped somewhat.

Besides how dare Mr. Moore queation the wisdom of “Barack the Benevolent”!

Mickey’s divorcing Minnie. The judge says, “Sorry, you can’t divorce Minnie just because she’s crazy.”

Mickey replies, “I didn’t say she was crazy, y’r Honor – I said she was @#$%&’n Goofy!”

Have a great 4th of July to all my conservative allies and, yes, to my liberal friends…or friend…okay, he’s just somebody I know who happens to be a (gasp!) liberal.

Now pass the burgers and dogs.

    @Jor-El

Re yesterday’s potato quote: You are correct that many businesses use variations of the correct words or even the alphabet for emphasis or to make a word stand out and so on. Example Toys-R-Us with the R backwards. My point was that the double e spelling of potato was an historic one, and some organizations still use it for the above reasons, in the same way as the factoree spelling you mentioned.

As for Dan Quayle, the incorrect spelling on the card is an entirely plausible scenario, and one which I have read in several accounts of the incident. If true, he could have challenged the spelling that was shown, but it would have placed him in the awkward position of showing up the event organizers and those around him who assured him the cards were correct. We all have instances of seeing a word, and not being sure if the spelling is correct.

In any event, far too much was made of the incident by those bent on showing him to be something other than a mental giant. If that was their goal, they would have gotten far better mileage with some of the other quotes you mention. In any event, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts about the gaffs made by your country’s leaders in their speeches. While I find them all to be extremely funny, I always think about how easily they can slip out and make them look like a fool. It happens to us all. Sometimes, reactions to things that go wrong can be even funnier than their words. Example, the look of perplexity on George Bush’s face over the locked door when he was attempting to make a dignified exit, or his expression when he was ducking the shoe throwing. Priceless.

Jor-El Re: Have a great 4th of July to all my conservative allies and, yes, to my liberal friends…or friend…okay, he’s just somebody I know who happens to be a (gasp!) liberal.”

I was raised in a Republican family where I received my “verbal sparring training” - especially with my older brothers. One shared that the reason he broke up with his girlfriend was because she was a democrat.

I was embarrassed voting for Richard Nixon (instead of McGovern) in ‘72 and started listening/reading more about politics and the importance of casting your vote.

Consciousness raising was available for both genders - Rush Limbaugh made a lot of $$ making fun of folks trying to “Do the Right Thing” or being P.C.. I’ve refrained from making fun of his big, fat paycheck & his history of Doctor Shopping. He’s got “addiiction demons” chasing him….

    Jor-El - I appreciate the humor ;-))

Jor-El, now, by this point in history, you know that he was only reading from the back of a spelling card someone gave him.

After he asked the question, he turned the card over and merely read the back of it. He couldn’t help it if it had been deliberately misspelled as part of a set up by dastardly liberals!

I always enjoyed watching Dick Clark’s “Bloopers” program (along with other “funniest videos” programs). Laughter’s the best medicine - and it’s free (or the price of cable/month).

Jor-El - regarding that last hot dog. Was my dog was over at your cookout? She stole 2 hot dogs off my plate when I wasn’t looking. (see my posting at today’s Stone Soup for more de-tails” (has a dog, kid and chicken drumstick featured - my kind of picnic & it’s a funny funnies).
