Gays marrying are not the bogeyman. The bogeyman our kids should be afraid of is our own idiocy. We did a pretty good job destroying marriage long before the gays brought up the issue.

The cartoon is based on a real news story. Just such a book was recommended to the San Francisco school board by, I believe, one of their city councilman. It’s hard to believe, but true. The cartoon is not fear-mongering. It is simply satirizing a real event.

Never mind the parental hysteria about first amendment rights being violated. What specifically about the program itself is objectionable? Do you think this is going to be a show-all picture book complete with positions and descriptions of various sex acts?

No, the parents are actually objecting to this curriculum because it will teach their children to not bully and harass other students, and not to use inflammatory words like “fag” and “queer” in a hurtful way. It will attempt to teach them tolerance, if not acceptance, and that homosexuals are no different from anyone else.

What exactly would normal parents have against such a thing?

First of all the events depicted in this particular cartoon are true. The book is real and there are school boards trying to adopt it to teach to elementary aged children.

The reason that any reasonable parent would object to this is because elementary school is for teaching our children basic English, Math, Science and History not for teaching them how to react to gays. Those matters of education should be left to the home and the parents should be given the right to teach their children those matters. If they chose not to that is their right.

Many see government forced programs as a threat to their rights and react accordingly. It is not the place of the courts or the school boards to decide when our children should learn about gay tolerance because when you teach a child about homosexuals you have to breach the entire subject of sexuality which many parents chose not to broach until a later age.

But why should the parents have those rights?

As well, I have seen and read many studies arguing about homosexuality being a choice, not a birth right (talk to all the homosexuals who have converted to heterosexual and you’ll see).
So again, this is all about what you believe and a school has no right to teach beliefs according to liberals. But they still push the religion evolution and the CHOICE homosexuality.

The fact that anyone would entertain a book like that for 1-5th graders says you want others to go farther then you in the tolerance department. How is this a birth right? I don’t buy it as well if you talk to a very happily converted person you may find the only ones lying to themselves are the radicals destroying property and invading churches to further their agenda.
No good comes from trying to FORCE change on people especially when the majority does not want it.
They should not attempted to force it on anyone and they would realize people would be more willing to accept it.

Christians are also being asked for acceptance for who they are. Why can we not accept both sides. It is a rare person that knows who they are as a 1st through 5th grader. Why do we need to teach our children about homosexuality at that age but not about heterosexuality. Why do state funded schools need to teach it at all. I belive this should be a descision by the parents. Kids will learn all sorts of things that thier parents don’t want them to. At least allow the parents some control over what is taught in the classroom. If not remove all the barriers. If you teach about homosexuality also teach about hetrosexuality. If you are goind to teach about alternate family values also teach about traditional family values. I am not a creationist but if you are so gung-ho to teach alternate veiw points to 6 and 7 year olds teach both creatitionism, Darwinism, intelligant design, and paganism for all i care. At some point we as a society are going to have to offend someone or we will splinter apart.

It’s been proven that things change & that lifeforms incapable of evolving die out. Current evidence seems to indicate that dinosaurs didn’t go extinct, they grew feathers & learned to fly. Viruses have proven their ability to evolve. Humans?

Is hate an evolutionary tool to ensure that only the “right” kind of people survive? If we let them win, they’ll be incapable of change & deserve to go extict. Or they’ll be like sharks & ‘gators, vicious enough to survive but not very lovable.

I think the program is dumb and a waste of money. 45 mins every year about teasing others for being different isn’t going to outweigh whatever the kids are learning at home. If they’re shown to hate or fear people who act or look different from them by their families, it’s not as if one class a year is going to change them.

I will say however that this discussion thread seems to have exposed a very raw nerve with a lot of people. The sheer amount of fear and hate flowing from the screen is palpable. Come on guys, for every mention of sodomy, try at least showing the decency of Lot. And if you can’t do that, pray for patience and understanding, because hate undoes all the teachings of Christianity.

This is exactly right. The problem is not whether grade-school kids should be taught about homosexuality, but rather, is this the role of schools? Of course not. Why are we asking schools to teach about homosexuality, or global warming, or “tolerancef” and whatever else is in the progressives’ trendy grab bag, when they can’t even teach reading, writing and arithmetic?.

Teaching first graders about homosexuality, lesbianism, transgender sex, etc. may make some parents feel good about their own “progressivism,” but most six year-olds will greet their forward-looking curriculum with one question - what the heck are you talking about? And that question will be followed by, “Who cares?… let me get back to my Tonka truck!”

Your are right on all points but there is one other I want to add. Nothing is more personal then our bodies. When they are not abused it is no big deal but if you have ever met a rape victim you can see personality changes. It includes loss of respect for themselves and just trying to get everyone’s approval. Twenty years Military Police close to 9 on active duty the rest national guard. Trust me people need to know and be taught that non-sexual relationships are valuable. There was a case not far from Dallas last year the parents used the kids in sex shows. And before Mike makes a statement on Texas, Dallas went left nearly 10 years ago. We don’t teach or show respect for each other, like Mike AKA Farleftside.

Go talk with a psychiatrist - he/she would have the expertise to explain you why an adult would be sexually attracted to children (per your own definition of pedophile - an adult who is sexually attracted to young children <– age preference - not gender preference).
