Obama forgot to mention the nurses (RNs) that are already in short supply.

Why is he limiting spending money we don’t have just to healthcare? Isn’t that what Congress does with everything these days??

  5. LibrarianInTraining

    LibrarianInTraining said, 6 months ago

KingRat, not necessarily. Not in South Florida anyway.

All of the RNs are coming to our agency, because none of the hospitals are hiring. So we’ve been overrun with RNs the past few months. They’re out there. They just can’t get jobs.

I spoke to soon. Satipera how did we get from Obama’s spending to the number of deaths in Iraq?
    ————
Also the number of deaths were down as early as November if I remember.

Satipera I will ask you then, how many of these civilians were killed by our troops rather than suicide bombers?

Wait… you’re saying we shouldn’t spend money we don’t have? But that’s UNAMERICAN!
Some of our greatest presidents, such as Roosevelt and Reagan have overspent! We encourage our citizens to use credit cards with interest rates of up to 20% (1/5)!

The American Dream of home ownership requires almost everyone to take out a mortgage, and recently, to buy homes which are too large and overvalued! (And if new home construction ceases, what about the large appliances which fill those homes? What happens when those factories close?)

If we, as Americans, do not borrow, the Banking industry will collapse! Foreign companies will take over American industry! The Chrysler Building could be bought by the Arabs! The Japanese could own the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center!

    satipera:
You have asked a great question and I hope you know how the numbers have been arrived at. It is an extrapolation based on a survey conducted of 2,163 Iraqis.

    http://data360.org/pdf/20080208045249.Revised%20Casulaty%20Data%20-%20Press%20release-1.pdf

For a detailed analysis, you should read the following less publicized but fairly accurate articles:
    http://www.holonet.khm.de/visual_alchemy/writings/children.html
    http://meria.idc.ac.il/journal/2001/issue4/jv5n4a6.htm
    http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/002/554awdqo.asp
    http://ambit.typepad.com/ambit/2003/09/howcomethe_ir.html

Let us see if I get the numbers right. 1.2 Mn civilians dead. 6 years of occupation. 365 days a year. So at an average we are looking at 1.2 divided by 6 times 365 deaths a day. That works out to about 500 deaths a day. Hmmm…can you show me a report from any source that has this kind of numbers?

And now I am sure I will be blasted for being insensitive and like. Guys, I understand the suffering, but like I have said earlier, numbers that are thrown around are usually for political reasons. These numbers have no basis.

Attytush…there was another guy throwing those numbers around a few months ago. -Numbers from a Brit health Agency? I agree. I do believe Iraqi’s must take some responsibility like everyone on the globe for their choices of governance or lack of governance; and responsible governments reserve the right to “correct” the behaviour of mis-behaving countries (through a fair and as legal a process as possible).
Everyone should have our kind of Democracy. Let’s hear it for the Colonial Congregationalists and the Puritans! (I’m being serious - our prudent forefathers don’t get enough credit. I wonder how those Patriarchical Theocrats built such a peaceful and productive Democracy for us all to enjoy.)

the 1 million+ casualty level could be true but you must remember the definition of casualty.

    casualty
    noun ( pl. -ties)
a person killed or injured in a war or accident.

most of the people I have heard use the million+ number forget that the definition includes the injured.

  20. jaguarundi

    jaguarundi said, 6 months ago

In defense of satipera, I think he said one hundred thousand Iraqi civilians, the million was his estimate of U.S. citizens killed using the same ratio. I don’t think there would be that many suicide bombers here though.

    “KingRat says:
the 1 million+ casualty level could be true but you must remember the definition of casualty.”

True, I misspoke. However, in 2006 a british organization published a report saying that 500,000 death certificates were issued by the Iraqi officials. So some of these numbers are definitely not correct. And as I mentioned earlier, a survey cannot be used to extrapolate the situation. And also the 500 number of casualties is way too high and somehow doesn’t seem justifiable.

As I mentioned earlier, the war is unfortunate and I along with a million other people opposed it. Having said that, now that we are already in there, it is our responsibility to ensure a good governance. I also believe that a change cannot be forced on people. It has to come from within. The only way Iraqi people will get a good governance is if they are willing too.

I am listening to Obama right now in the “President takes on the press”. Talking about Mother’s day, he said, “This is a tough holiday for Ralph Emanuel, because he is not used to saying Day after Mother”. That is really funny.

    Mom’s rock.

Damnation! One more time… I’m a republican and I say we have NO BUSINESS being in Iraq, or Afghanistan for that matter!
We should get out NOW! Obama is probably going to regret not keeping his election promises in this area.
Political party has nothing to do with it!

And thus we see the problem DeeBerg…the world doesn’t revolve around what anybody wants or wishes would happen! So the leaders of the free world are called upon to LEAD if no one else will.
Thank God I was born in America, the jewel of Civilisation and Democracy. Thank you LORD that our forefathers had the Godly fear and discipline to make the choices that mattered, and passed freedom on to us so we’re not stoning women, blowing up brother Semites, and generally refusing to get along with everyone. Thank you, Jesus!
P.S. To be leaders of the free world we have to show ourselves capable of the responsibility. Nowadays as slackers we want the goodies without the responsibility. You secular-Humanists will find that by giving up your christian moral heritage you will have also given up any reason for God to suffer you to EXIST!.
