This is certainly a departure from what we really see here. I myself enjoy banjo playing, “Grandpa” Jones and Roy Clark being my particular favorites.

At first glance I thought it was Nancy P. with some kind of night face cream on.

One has to notice that ONCE AGAIN, good old farleftside has to be the very FIRST to post his pure idiocy. He must stay up at nights, waiting to make sure he is the first to post his lunacy. Thanks, once again, farleftside, for making us assured that we’re normal, and you are not.

How come so many here are so upset about a toon dealing with Gene Simmons and a banjo? Could farleftside really have said something so offensive that people are attacking him so? Did I miss it? I could be wrong, but it just seems to me that he’s making a silly comment (fairly tongue-in-cheek) about banjos.
And RogOregon … What? Does your post pertain to another conversation that the rest of us aren’t privy to?

This is a first, I agree with you! I’ll add as well, the song “Come on Eileen” is only good due to the banjo.

History is progress:
1958: blacks were hanging from trees in the south. It is only four years since Brown v. Board of ed, but black children are still ostracized for the color of their skin and offered substandard education.
2008: racial equality has become the status quo. A black man has been elected President.
Sometimes we forget the lessons of history:
1958: Americans live in fear of an invisible enemy; terror rules their lives; they are instructed to be vigilant and suspect their fellow man of being a traitor.
2008: Americans live in fear of an invisible enemy; terror rules their lives; they are instructed to be vigilant and suspect their fellow man of being a traitor.
But sometimes, progress isn’t always easy to accept:
1958: RogOregon goes public with thoughts on a troubled America. He is considered un-American. He is hauled before the authorities. The FBI starts a file. He is labeled a traitor. He is black listed and prevented from pursuing a life.
2008: RogOregon is free to comment on the Internet.
After all, history (read: progress) is inevitable. You either jump on board and ride the train, or you sit in your room and shake your fist about the way things used to be. Rose-colored glasses and revisionist history serve no positive purpose.

BTW … this ‘toon doesn’t really make much sense. Anybody with even a basic knowledge of KISS would know that Gene Simmons doesn’t sleep … he likes to rock and roll all night and party every day.

Luckily for RogO, the upcoming newly-annointed blockbuster-to-be puts his drag back in vogue.
Just sayin’

If you want to know what a man is really like, simply listen to how he treats other people.

I actually liked Rog’s post and Birish’s post. They both are true. (maybe exaggerated a little)

tpennaPro, RogO is fully and frequently engaged in other conversations that the rest of us don’t hear; along with many other of the posters on this board.

That is your tune, FLS?
Hmmm, you have given me a lot to think about…
attyush said, 6 months ago
LOL johnnydoc5. Surprising how many people think that their sh** doesn’t stink.
johnnydoc5 said, 6 months ago
Not quite sure I follow you Attyush, I first made that last statement as a joke, but now that I have read some of those strips, some I disagree with, but some he has a point.

johnnydoc5:
I am not talking about his website. It is quite funny and though some of his rants are over the top, and I don’t agree with his point of view always, but it is still a good commentary. (I am a regular visitor of his site btw)
I am mostly talking about FLS’s commentary on this forum where usually he just puts down people.
[Edit]: You simply have to read FLS’s first posts on this forum. Wasn’t that exactly the point of his toon (the link to which was provided by Raven)?

Ooooh OK, I got ya. True true.

Gene Simmons, KISS, and bands like them (No Doubt?) are a small symbol of the sad trend toward decadence in the West that has been underway for at least 60 years.
The weakening of the nuclear family via divorce, the declining birthrate, the sanctioning of homosexuality, the pervasiveness of pornography, the diminution of the power of religion and spirituality - all of these are a kind of rot at the core of Western society and culture.
It is this decadence and moral rot that most offends and concerns the proponents of Islam, a still-puritanical religion if there ever was one. Yes, they - especially their youth - are attracted to the colorful materialism and prosperity, but, deep down, they know there’s something unhealthy going on in Europe and the U.S.
That they do not want to happen to their society what is clearly happening in the West, goes a long way to explaining the rising disgust with our way of life among Muslims.
