ooh I get to have the first comment. I disagree with this cartoon. I don’t Obama is a Capitalist enabler or a war monger, I think he is liberal.

satipera, you hit the nail on the head. Politicians nearly always do what is best for themselves.

If specter had any honor, he would have resigned and then run for the new seat.

wndrwrthg, I can’t believe it. I agree with you on this. Specter had been a RINO for years, as has McCain, Collins and Snow. The republican party has moved, but the move has been to the left. Specker did the only thing he could to have a chance of retaining his seat. When the republicans start acting like democrats, why not vote for the “real thing”.

Thank you, you are very correct I need to watch it and realize who and what they are and consider the source and let it go. I will do better next time.

I agree with saltpera, Specter is an opportunist. He saw that he would lose in the Republician primary. It wouldn’t surprise me that come primary season he gets a challenger from the Dems after all.

satipera I come from PA, am all to familiar with Arlen Specters brand of politics. There was NO WAY he would get re-elected in the state of PA, not just for his vote on the stimulus bill, that was the last straw for his political career here. He pulled a lot of stuff here in this state and “pissed”” off a lot of people in both parties. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t get the democratic vote either!

There is a kernel of truth to this. Obama is by no means the most liberal member of the Democratic party; his politics are in fact center-left, in step with mainstream America.

The Republicans could learn a lesson from this, as they are increasingly electing extremists, casting off their moderates, and rapidly shrinking their party.

    Obama left of center??!!!!
That is nuts! He far, far left. His politics shows it. His stance on abortion is far left of the majority of all democrats. His stance of Gay marriage is far left. His spouting RAISE taxes is far left. His socialism push is far left. His government set out to fix EVERYTHING is far left. He is worse then Clinton.
How on earth can you even say such a thing, what makes him left of center to you?

Ian, the republicans ran John McCain, he is definitely not an extremist.

I’m a native Marylander, but my family history is PA (Johnstown & Pittsburgh) since before the Revolutionary War. ONE THING I’ve learned over all those years is that you can never trust, nor put any credence to, ANY politician from PA. From the Mafia controls in the East (See the PA turnpike) to the OVERT corruption in the West (see the steel mills & union involvement therein), PA politics is just as bad as IL, and look who that begat us recently.

sadispera-I hope that you are putting as much effort into the politics in YOUR country as you are in mine. You SEEM to be FAIRLY well informed about American politics! If you could place that much effort in your OWN country’s politics, you may be able to make a difference. Look at Parliament as hard as you look at Congress, and take care of your own back yard first.

sadispera-I’m afraid I don’t quite understand your comment about “buy a book”. I am quite well read. I will, however, take your $20 since BO can use all the money he can get!

sadispera-and to think, we just thought you were here to antagonize (or should I say, antagonise?). A Brit’s desire to learn from American history is actually quite admirable, since those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it.

sadispera-NOW we’re getting somewhere! I knew that I could get the true Brit attitude out of you if I just kept trying! Now, try saying something intelligent regarding world politics, if you think you’re capable!

Ummm, hate to break it to ya, but he really *is* a moderate centrist. He’s about as leftist or socialistic as my socks.

I’m very glad Arlen Specter switched from the Republican party to the Democrat party.
By doing this, he has raised the average IQ of both parties!
BTW, having 60 or more votes in the senate can be a very dangerous thing for the Democrats. They should be extremely careful how they handle it.
