whats really funny is that just a day or two ago I saw a poll on abortion that was divided out by Catholics and Non-Catholics, and there was virtually no difference in opposition.

I should also note that I have meet very few religious people that believed every bit of dogma from their religion. You see, religion is like political parties, people chose one thats close to them, but generally don’t follow every belief 100%.

And ya know what? that’s okay.

    RogOregon,

    Here’s an even better site:

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/

It tracks all of his promises, and separates them into Kept/Broken/Compromise/Stalled/No Action/ and In The Works.

A much more accurate way to look at it.

This is the most insane thing you have said!!!!! “It’s no one’s “duty” to uphold the Constitution.”
You are an __ for that comment, you are a traitor to your country for that comment. My discuss in you is far worse then anyone I have ever talked to in my life!!!!!!!
THAT TAKE AN OATH TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION AND IT IS NOT A LIVING DOCUMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amendments do not make a Constitution a living document. It keeps it current WITH help from it’s people. A living document can very from person to person because it can be interpreted differently, this is NOT our SET in STONE Constitution.
This was so hard to say with out calling you an idiot.

Yes we should all follow the advice of the French!
    You remember some faomous qotes?
General Patton: “I’d rather have a German division in front of me than a French division behind me”
Marge Simpson: “We can stand here like the French, or we can do something about it.”
Jacques Chirac (President): “As far as I’m concerned, war always means failure.”
Regis Philbin: “The only time France wants us to go to war is when the German Army is sitting in Paris sipping coffee.”
Conan O’Brien: “You know why the French don’t want to bomb Saddam Hussein? Because he hates America, he loves mistresses and wears a beret. He is French, people.”
Jay Leno: “I don’t know why people are surprised that France won’t help us get Saddam out of Iraq. After all, France wouldn’t help us get the Germans out of France!”
David Letterman (is this man not an insane liberal?): “The last time the French asked for ‘more proof’ it came marching into Paris under a German flag.”
Mark Twain: “France has neither winter nor summer nor morals. Apart from these drawbacks it is a fine country. France has usually been governed by prostitutes.”
Anonymous: “How many Frenchmen does it take to change a light bulb? One. He holds the bulb and all of Europe revolves around him. Next time there’s a war in Europe, the loser has to keep France.”

While I am aware that the Catholic church has made more than its share of mistakes, it is run by humans. Only a tiny (albeit alarming) fraction of priests raped those children, so please don’t judge all Catholics like that.

“There are no winners in war as anyone who has fought”
Yes I believe that is you ask anyone they would agree with this, this statement is no secret, BUT at the same time if you do not protect your country you can have losers to wars. As well, how is protecting yourself failure? Did we fail at The Revolutionary War, WWI or WWII? As well my quotes were not only from O’Brien & Leno, but from Patton, Mark Twain and Regis. About the argument, my point was why should we listen to the French?
Who are they to suggest what we should do as a FREE country? What terrorist tactics are we using? A few soldiers stepping out of line is not our military doing something wrong, if it even happened like you liberals claim.

It’s that “slippery slope” argument. Premise 1. I am for the constitution. Premise 2. The constitution is for abortion. If 1. and 2. are true, then, the conclusion, I am for abortion must also be true. But, 2. may only be partially true. The constitution can be changed, by amendment. So, the conclusion can be false.
Pelosi needs to go take a class in logic.

FLS, you’re right, but only to a point. Until the Constitution is amended it is her duty to uphold it, as is. One of the most unpopular Supreme Court decisions of all time, the Dredd Scott decision, was still the proper, legal way to go. As the Constitution stood at the time it was the only way Taney and the other Justices could go. They left it up to the US Congress to amend the law if they felt it was necessary. Unfortunately that Congress was just as spineless and cowardly as the one we have today. They left the law as it was. And we suffered the Civil War because of it. I doubt we’ll have anything as unpleasant as the Civil War today, but our elected representatives are not doing their jobs by failing to resolve the abortion issue one way or the other.

mytinytool, the fact that the papist swine have been raping children for generations, AND THE CHURCH CONDONED AND COVERED IT UP, and that those who profess to be catholic have stood idly by and allowed their children to be raped and still do is more than sufficient reason to condemn the entire religion. Trust me I am far from perfect, but I do condone nor elevate to greater positions in the church those who are child rapists.

First of all abortion should not be used as a form of birth control.
If “the church” was concerned about Catholics violating this doctrine they should Excommunicate them. If more “pro-life” people would help establish homes for un-wed mothers to allow them either to allow their child to be adopted or should the mother decide to keep the baby provide her training to be able to support themselves.

For the sake of argument let say it is a living document the first 10 amendments were ratified on 12/15/1791 the next 17 in order:

    2/7/1795
    6/15/1804
    6/12/1865
    7/9/1868
    2/3/1870
    2/3/1913
    4/8/1913
    1/16/1919
    8/18/1920
    1/23/1933
    12/5/1933
    3/29/1961
    3/23/1964
    2/10/1967
    7/1/1971
    5/7/1992

It covers everything from presidential succession, poll taxes, slavery, prohibition, congressional pay, Presidential term limits, voting age, Presidential Vote for District of Columbia, Women’s Suffrage, Senators Elected by Popular Vote, Status of Income Tax. Now I am not being rude, I am asking you in all honesty how dose the constitution as a living documents using amendments make abortion legal.

I to would not want to follow Europe on a lot of social issues. The French legalized consensual Incest several years back. How dose a child even a 16 or a 17 year old say no. Come on. What happens when you have some sort of Monster like that one in Austria, very bad for any child. Say what you want about those priests there was a measure of justice involved. Some are even in jail.

  27. Dypak

    DypakGenius_badge said, 7 months ago

Jack75287 - You hit the nail square on the head, none of those amendments have anything to do with abortion, that is the problem. Our Congress has been too cowardly to deal with the issue, either for or against. They know that if they were to come out on the issue they would jeopardize their ccushy jobs. This is a major flaw in our form of government and why we need Congressional term limits to match those on the Executive branch. If they didnt have to worry about reelection they might actually do something.

I think the Supreme Court used our right to privacy to issue the Roe v. Wade decision. It wasnt a good decsion, for either side. But the Court was forced into because of Congress’ failure to act.

By the way another thing about this not being mentioned in the Constitution. For years Slave States claimed the federal government could not legislate against slavery because no where in the Constitution does it mention slavery, until the Civil War Amendments. The fact the federal government does this now, rather than allow each state to decide on it’s own, is a perfect example of federal abuse of power, taking states rights away from us.

Apparently our ignorance of American history is only exceeded by our ignorance of French history and culture. France has consistently kicked a$$ all across the world throughout its history. Take a look at the map and see how many nations either speak French or follow many of France’s cultures. That’s because at one time or another they were a French colony. Most of Europe was taken over by French forces led by Napoleon not once, but twice.

Everyone claims ‘we saved the French’ during the war. Granted. But they fought pretty much alone for years before we managed to get off our butts and get into the fight. Yeah, we did save the French, but it was due to French determination and fighting that they were still around to save.

We are so ungratefull to the French. We would not even be a country without them. It was their Navy that defeated the British so that George Washington, along with French forces led by Lafayette, was able to defeat Cornwallis at Yorktown. Not to mention all the money and supplies that they ‘loaned’ usm knowing that they’d never be repaid. And how did we repay them? We promised them that if they ever needed us we would be there to help, that they could count on us. How long did that last? The very first time the French asked us to help we refused and told them we couldnt really risk another war with Great Britain.

Get off the French’s back, they’re an easy target to bash. And they don’t deserve it. We just don’t have room to talk. We’ve done just as much to be ashamed of ourselves.

Rog good information on Europe. Still the French have been a problem for the world for a long time. They caused brutal financial punishment on Germany some say this caused WWII. When the Nazi defeated France although there was some brave resistant fighters they collaborated. The southern half of France was declared a free zone by the Nazis. It pretty much stayed that way till August 1944. After we freed them they left NATO in the 1960’s. Now they are back in and there are riots about it, to be honest they lost so much in the two world wars they don’t want to fight again. They would not even send troops to Bosnia. Not to fight but as pease keepers and this is in Europe.

Sorry bud, you’re wrong. I’m not idealizing anyone. I’m trying to point out that the comments made about the French and other Europeans in this forum are just about as racist as we can get without refering to skin color. You wouldnt use a racial epithet here, so why call someone a Frog? Because your logic is flawed. We don’t class how people are by race, but it is ok to do it by the country that they are from? That’s just plain ignorant.

Obama is the first President we’ve had in a long time honest enough and brave enough to stand up and admit that the United States of America has made mistakes in the past. And people call that America Bashing. If you don’t think our nation has not made mistakes you are an idiot. And if you think it’s wrong for us, for our President to admit our mistakes, you’re a coward and an idiot. We’ve been acting like a greedy bunch of pushy little spoiled children. We be grateful that we finally have someone mature enough and brave enough to stand up and say something about it. It’s the only way things are going to get better.
