The deficit under Bush reached some $400 billion. Under Obama we’re headed for somewhere between a 1.2 trillion and 2 trillion dollar deficit. This money must be raised down the road by borrowing or raising taxes. This means taking money out of the hands of the private sector and putting it in the hands of government bureaucrats to dole out to the most politically connected special interests. This means the government is deciding where resources should go and not the marketplace. Does this really make good economic sense? Of course not.

What I consider is soooo interesting is that farleftside is one of the first, is not THE first, to comment on this strip. I’ve followed this pattern for some time now. Poor fellow, he really is to be pitied. He has no life, other than to make snide comments on someone’s strip which he disagrees. Let us bow our heads in abject sorrow for his lack of any other life. :-(

In the past several months that I have been posting on this site (as well as many more previous that I only read comments), I have read a lot of comments from across the political spectrum. I may not agree with everyone, but I try to respect their right to an opinion.

This comic has consistently drawn some of the most disturbing exchanges. I have tried to argue rationally. I have tried to appeal to peoples better nature. I have even been drawn down to the level of some others and been insulting myself. I know the best thing to do is ignore the worst element, but that is not my nature.

Things have been getting worse, with personal attacks and name calling degenerating to the playground level. Just within the last few weeks I have been referred to as doctorloon by Marktrail and doctorpervert by RogOregon. I challenge either one to go back to those comments and find justification in my own comments for their words.
Attacks on myself matter little to me. It is simply a matter of considering the source. If I see no reason to respect the source of the insult, then it has no real consequence.
However, I will stand for this no more.

A few days ago RogOregon unleashed a couple of particularly nasty attacks on Margueritem. This lady is one of the finest people who post here and did nothing to deserve this but reach out. I found this to be intolerable.

So this is what I’m going to do:

From this point forward I will flag ANY comment on this page which includes attacks of a personal nature. I will flag name calling, be it personal or generalizations against political parties. This goes for those on both sides of every arguement.

I urge people of decency to do the same. This also includes both sides. If enough people take a stand for civility, this page may stop being the joke of gocomics that it has become.

We can disagree without degenerating to barbarianism.

You need to learn the difference between debt and deficit. At least conservatives complained about Bush’s deficit spending. You realize you’re implying that Bush destroyed the economy with high deficits, but that we can fix it with even higher deficits.

From one who has received his fair share of insults here, I will agree with you. It really does need to stop. I understand the rage republicans have, but name calling should stop. This even goes to the slightest little name calling from ones like HUMP who consistently call republicans “wingnuts”. Pretty petty, but it is name calling. I have only called others name in defense and I should have not even done that. I don’t think using terms like noecon, libs, liberals, conservatives, ect should be classified as name calling though. That is more classifying.

Bush beat Obama to trillion mark.
The last Bush budget had a deficit of 1.02 trillion.
The housing mess was made worst by Bush because the Bush administration encourage subprime lending.
I have mentioned this several times before and I will again.
The loans made available under Clinton were fixed rate loans guaranteed by the Federal Housing Authority
Sub prime loans did not become common place until 2002
I will criticize Clinton for signing the law authored by Phil Gramm deregulating the banking industry

That’s why I went to the effort to make such a statement here. Gocomics did step in and take control on the Dick Tracy page a while back when things went truly toxic. It didn’t happen from a few random flags, but from a concentrated effort to deal with a problem. The problem poster is gone now.
I’m not hoping to so much banish anyone, just get the nastiness out of here.
The rule in my home is that nasty attitudes are not allowed. If someone can leave the attitude at the door, they are welcome. If the attitude can not be separated from the person, then neither can stay.

Even though you believe that, it is no excuse to call them fools or loons. It is also no excuse to paint all people who do not believe as you do with the very broad brush that you do. Not all liberals believe in all the same things and exaggerating positions is not fair either.
Mark, you and I have achieved a sort of peace since the first of the year, but I’m afraid I will include your posts in my flagging campaign. As mytinytown said, some phrases are simply meant to identify political philosophies. Too many of your terms are just insulting and contribute to the problem. I understand that you have come under a lot of attacks yourself here, but look in the mirror and ask yourself honestly if you haven’t contributed to inciting them. The architects of BO’s “stimulus package” understand full well that they are expanding government entitlements to bring more voters onto the big government plantation. To paraphrase Rohm E., this recession is our opportunity. Consider that BO is going to politicize the census to “cook the books” to shut out opposition.

BUSH WAS NOT a true conservative. Not main Republicans that I know personally liked him much during his last 4 years. Please do not compare him to a true conservative. Alot he did i n the past year wasn’t liked by the republicans as much as it was the democrats. Like example, the bail out, democrats hit that harder then the republicans.

If one has a clear recall of history, solid moral foundation and understanding of economics, one will understand how the electorate is being played.

I just want everyone to know that this is probably my favorite comic; not because of the content of the comic but because of the arguments that it draws. I would like to thank everyone who contributes to the comments for amusing me every single day.

Doctortoon if you do not like what people are saying you have the choice to not read the comments and to not post anything. By posting something you are opening yourself up to attack whether you like it or not. Freedom of speech does not just mean speech that you think should be free. Also Doctortoon I flagged your comment as inappropriate because I think it is inappropriate to try and rob people of the right to free speech under the guise that you are going to flag them.

For everyone talking about how Bush ran up such a huge deficit; remember it took him 8 years in office to do that; Obama’s already at a trillion in just a little over a month.

Also if you believe that this whole crisis has been caused by Bush and Bush alone you are sadly mistaken. Don’t forget it was Clinton who signed certain things into law that allowed this happen and it was under a democratic congress that everything fell apart.

The citizens of America are the ones who are truly to blame for this economic crisis. It was the citizens who were running up massive amounts of debt that they have not been able to pay off. It was the citizen who signed ARM papers without knowing what they were doing to themselves. Due to the overspending of the American citizen the economy inflated to a point where it had to burst and it did burst as we all know. Now all the citizens are looking to place blame on someone and that so happens to be the government; they should all be blaming themselves. Anyone who bought a car they could not really afford or bought more house than they really could afford or financed furniture or carried a balance on credit card or financed that new plasma TV or bought any other frivolous item on any sort of credit is truly the ones that we should be blaming for this mess.

Freedom of speech as defined by the constitution applies to the government not controlling expression. This site is controlled by gocomics, which does indeed have a standard of behavior by which we must all abide. It is nearly impossible for them to keep track of all posts. Thus the reason for the flagging system on the comments by which we may assist them in discovering and dealing with problems. Feel free to flag me if you wish, but i highly doubt they will have a problem with anything I have written today.
