Funny how the names, “American Negro College Fund” and “National Association for the Advancement of Colored People” are accepted as non-offensive but the words “negro” and “colored” used in any sentence are considered racist.

Of course redneck and blonde jokes are always acceptable and anyone who is offended by them is too sensitive and needs to “get over it.”

The cartoon misrepresents the event. The state media ignored the remark made by Reid. I believe it was Limbaugh, quoting Reid who pointed out the selective indignation, as was the case with the “retardo” comment made by Emanuel quoted by Limbaugh. The same applied to the “special olympics” remark made by BozOTUS and insults by other libs.
The point of the discussion is the bias in the media.

Political Correctness aside - word usage has changed from what was acceptable to what has become just plain rude. Not to fault previous generations - what was acceptable to our Grandparents - is not acceptable now. Doesn’t matter what your politics are - Rude is Crude!

“Founded in 1876, the AAIDD is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization of professionals (and others) concerned about mental retardation and related disabilities.
The first meeting of the “Association of Medical Officers of American Institutions for Idiotic and Feebleminded Persons” was held at the Elwyn Training School in Elwyn, Pennsylvania.
The organization later changed its name to “American Association on Mental Deficiency” (AAMD) and then to the “American Association on Mental Retardation.”
In June 2006, members of the association voted to change its name to the “American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.”

Rush is Rude as well as Crude!

    Hector, it’s sad, but true.

Actually, we were having this conversation all week since it’s black history month.

My coworker is from Mozambique, born and raised. My other coworker is Puerto Rican, but she’s lived most of her life in Pennsylvania.

Neither of them can understand this “entitlement” attitude that African Americans and those from the local islands seem to have that makes them so haughty,

My lady from Mozambique says they give real Africans a bad name and, if they acted like this back in her country, no one would stand for it. They would be considered exceedingly rude and most likely ostracized by the community, or had their egos taken down by the town elders.

Someone asks, I am such and such profession. I worked for that title. Race, nationality, or other accidents of birth are not of my making. Why should I be proud of being a black/Irishman/ Hispanic or any other description on my ancestor’s birth. Did I do it? Should I wave a green flag in March and cry, “My ancestors came to America in chains”!How about, “My father spoke another language as an immigrant, so I will too.”

Perhaps the military is a good place to learn diversity. Don’t matter a persons accent or hue, you all wear green and believe in the same country. The man next to you may save your life.

I am not now and have never been a member of any racial minority, so I can’t quite share in the sensitivities that I’m sure must develop in those long victimized by prejudice.

But I am old enough to have watched decades of change in attitudes and I take some consolation that we have almost…almost, mind you… corrected the worst of once rampant American racism.

For those younger, the best history lesson would be to become a fan of old movies on Turner Classic Movies. As one example, I was horrified to learn that the famous Agatha Christie story known as “And There Were None” or “The Ten Little Indians” was originally named (and the movie was shown in England as) “The Ten Little N^^^^^s”!

The change is slow, but real.

“The state media ignored the remark made by Reid. I believe it was Limbaugh, quoting Reid who pointed out the selective indignation, as was the case with the “retardo” comment made by Emanuel quoted by Limbaugh.”

    • No. The remark by Reid was widely publicized and he was attacked for it by both sides. However Reid was also making a truthful statement which was taken out of context. One only has to look at the campaigns especially by the Right to see how attempting to point out his racial heritage was used against him. Hillary is not beyond this accusation, either.

    • However, Rush said not only a couple days ago, quoting Rahm Emanuel’s “F’ing retards” comment that there was this crying about political correctness and blah blah blah “retards retards.” Palin then said that Rush’s statement was Okay (where she had called for Rahm’s firing) because Rush’s comment was “satire” and that he wasn’t calling a group of people he doesn’t agree with “retards.” Yet that’s EXACTLY what Rush did.

    • So no. Both sides do it. If it’s not Race on the Left, it’s Abortion on the Right, tax evasion left, infidelity right. To be honest though, both sides have seriously abused race, especially with Michael Steele. “What up?” Oh and “Teleprompter” right while “palm reading.” >.> (these teleprompter jokes are particularly funny after Obama destroyed Republicans so badly in a live Q&A [no teleprompter] that Fox News cut away).

    • Oh and the big one: “Civil liberties and small government” vs. “Putting the government in my bedroom when I’m with another consenting adult.”

Then you have the now defunct Air America did you ever listen to Janeane Garofalo or Al Franklyn every other thing was stupid or racist or white male Republicans oh the left can be pretty rude.

You do realize the difference in the teleprompter and “palm reading” right?
Teleprompter = someone else thoughts quite possibly and it is a word for word reading most of the times.
Notes on hand = her own thoughts and it is only a few words to help remind her the topics she wants to talk about.
    No comparison at all.

    You said:
“(these teleprompter jokes are particularly funny after Obama destroyed Republicans so badly in a live Q&A [no teleprompter] that Fox News cut away).”

Are you 100% certain there was no teleprompter anywhere? They can be off camera pretty simply. Did you see the set? I have seen where Obama was talking and the teleprompter failed and he was a stuttering mad man on stage. It is not above a politician to lie.

I will agree that both republicans and democrats are bad and can easily show racist tendencies. But it does seem that people like Robert Byrd get a free pass unless they need to “make an example” of him/her. Does Rod Blagojevich ring any bells? Surprised he is not visiting Jimmy Hoffa.

  19. Jade

JadeGenius_badge said, about 8 hours ago

“Teleprompter = someone else thoughts quite possibly and it is a word for word reading most of the times. ”

    • No, a Teleprompter merely means that you have words there to read off of. They do not mean that the writer is necessarily removed from the production of those words. Take Colbert or Jon Stewart, for example, they both clearly use teleprompters. They’re both also contributors to the content they read. Obama knows how to write a speech, and regardless of any stuttering (remember that all-over-the-place speech by Palin or Bush’s Bushisms?), at least he knows what his own core talking points are.

    • So let’s be clear: use of a teleprompter does not automatically remove the speaker from textual contribution. However it is hypocritical to attack someone over the use of a teleprompter when you’re sitting in a Q&A and holding a mic in one hand while trying to nonchalantly read off your talking points, you’re supposed core principles, from your hand. I know what my core principles are. I don’t have to write them down.

“Does Rod Blagojevich ring any bells? ”

    • That “I’m sitting on F’ing gold and I’m going to get something for it” Senate seat? Isn’t he that guy who’s a celebrity now – not unlike a certain failed governor of a certain state who couldn’t make it through a whole term yet claims to be more ready for the presidency than the current president?

“Are you 100% certain there was no teleprompter anywhere?”

    • Considering the bias of Fox News, I’m quite sure if there were any teleprompters in use during the meeting, they would have been called out particularly by them. “Well… he had a teleprompter.” So, does he have to sit there and wait for someone to type up the answer to every Republican’s question before he can speak? Watch the Q&A. Or is it so difficult to swallow that Obama, this guy people claim can’t speak at all, was able to spar with 140 of his opponents and come out on top? I mean, if that were to ever happen on the Republican side, I’d have a difficult time eating it, too, but guess what, there were no teleprompters there. Days later not even Fox News has stated there were. No one is a perfect speaker every single time out. But guess what… he’s in his element in Q&As. Whereas Palin is a deer in headlights, and like Dick Cheney’s daughter, can’t answer tough questions.

    • By the way, seriously, “Obama should start a war with Iran to prove how tough he is?” Seriously? Maybe she should use a teleprompter more often so she doesn’t say ridiculous stuff.

“Keith Olbermann and his tirade after the Massachusetts election.”

    • Exactly. I watch 1 hour of MSNBC a night, and that’s Rachel Maddow. Keith Olbermann leads in and follows her show. I can’t watch him, he’s far too rude. Rachel Maddow, at least, is very calm and soft-spoken, even in the face of someone who thinks he can “cure” her being a lesbian [or should I say, thinks he can cure gay men, for some reason the gay theories never apply to lesbians nor do the treatments /eyeroll]. But even she’s to the left of me.

I thought you were better then that. Guess I was wrong, so I am done. Good day!

    John Pike
You are correct, for me it is a way to vent and release frustrations. As well get a load of how ALL people give the party they root for a pass. I know I am guilty of this myself, but I try not to be.

“Jade, it doesnt matter. If you are a legislator, or a talk radio host, you need to tone down the rudeness.”

    • Legislators and Talk-show hosts are in different categories. So you should compare legislators with legislators and pundits with pundits.

“You rip Palin for writing on her hand (because she should know her own points), but give Obama a pass for maybe NOT using a teleprompter 1 time. Which you have no proof of. Then you actually say Fox New is Bias??!?!!?! Wow! That was the best statement ever.

I thought you were better then that. Guess I was wrong, so I am done. Good day!”

    • Don’t even attempt to spin this. I rip on Palin for using writing on her palm because in that SAME instance she was ripping on Obama. If you can’t see the difference then perhaps YOU’RE the biased one. The only time Obama and his teleprompter come up as an issue is when the Right attempts to use it as a talking point. We BOTH know he uses a teleprompter. So what? Every public figure does! When you make fun of someone using a teleprompter while you’re writing on your hand, it’s delicious irony and I’m calling it out. So I ask you this: When has Obama ever attacked anyone for using a teleprompter or reading off of their hand? Okay then. It’s a one-sided attack.

    • Keep on spinning.

  26. Jade

JadeGenius_badge said, about 7 hours ago

“Second Rachel Maddow was the women that Anderson Cooper made all the Tea Bagger jokes with.”

    • I remember seeing the place where she got that joke from. She didn’t make it up out of nowhere. The first parties she covered set themselves up for the joke. If you’ve got a bunch of tea bags on your head and you get a bunch of people together to contribute money to do, and I quote, “tea bag the White House” guess what, you set up the joke, in as much seriousness as you are the joke. That is exactly what they are. Granted, these’re the same people now calling themselves Tea Baggers… which is irony since they’re supposedly so against sodomy, and we know what that contemporarily, “tea bagging” is a sodomy reference.

    • Now, I never said that such a reference wasn’t rude. I said that Keith Olbermann is “too rude” for me to watch and that Rachel Maddow is not. Guess what, raising your voice is also rude. So many people do that. Rude. No one is perfect. But I don’t consider a “tea bag” joke outside of my realm of entertainment.

  30. Jade

JadeGenius_badge said, about 6 hours ago

@mytinytown - No, my “I know my own core values” line is still there. No, I do not need to write them on my hand. The reason I bring up the point that her core values are written on her hand is because they’re supposed to be core values. They’re supposed to be what you fundamentally believe in. If you’re attacking someone’s use of a teleprompter, saying they can’t speak without it (again, 140 Reps vs. 1 Obama, game : Obama), then you shouldn’t need to be writing anything on your hand, especially not the fundamental things you believe in.

You know what, this whole thing would probably not have come up at all, and you certainly wouldn’t see me sitting here with it, if she hadn’t been attacking someone for doing essentially the same thing she is doing. Anyone can read a teleprompter. If you don’t at least know some of your content, you will look like you’re reading it, it will not look or sound natural.

So it’s really a case of a blaring hypocrisy. And not even “on different days” hypocrisy like Palin v. Rahm | Palin v. Rush. It’d be like a PETA person attacking someone for wearing a fur coat… while wearing a fur coat.

Edit: Hit “CTRL + F” or open your find box to search for the text you saw [which is still there] before accusing me of editing out something contentious, next time, please.

Good to see it, I was looking for the wrong wording, I do apologize. I did read through your comments about 4 times to find it before I posted and did not see it. I did do the control F to find it, and FireFox has an awesome search. BUT I was looking for the wrong words. Once again I am sorry, for the accusation, but I did search like crazy for it. I searched for values and Palin, but you said “principles” not values. But to me, what you said, is still a rip on Palin. So no spinning required.

  33. Jade

JadeGenius_badge said, about 4 hours ago

@mytinytown - I don’t deny I’m not ripping on her. But I’m ripping on her, for [as I have said] “ripping on a guy for doing one thing while you’re doing the same thing,” not for some isolated incident like you painted it as. You stated I was giving Obama a pass for using a teleprompter because he has had times when he has not been seen or called for using a teleprompter yet I’m attacking Palin for use of hand notes. Again I will state that I don’t care who uses or doesn’t use a teleprompter. It’s a red-herring. We may disagree on teleprompter use vs. writing something on your hand but the premise is still the same. Heck, Palin got through most of the speech with just having to glance at it a few times. Good job. But she had stuff written there for her Q&A. Whereas Obama uses his teleprompter more for speeches and can handle Q&A without a hand cue. The point is still it’s the pot calling the kettle black and that’s what this is about.

I will be the first to admit I don’t like Palin. No, I really really dislike her. And it’s not for her blaring ineptitude, it’s for the way she speaks about people like me. I have friends who disagree with things about my orientation. But guess what, they don’t try to legislate morality on me. We stay out of each other’s business on that. There’s the difference.

Let’s not forget that the book was published in 1939.

I believe that during that same period, grown up N^^^^^s were not allowed in the US army?

If I look to today’s cultures
Gang war between Latinos and Negro’s (yes I am dutch, so it is not a forbidden word and why should it be? it’s just a word that means ‘black’. ) and white and God may know what other historical background, I think it time to grow up and face the consequences of the general ostrich politic. we live on one (1) planet, so we need to get around/along with each other.

Oh to be one of those proverbial flies on the wall to have witness what actually happened.
