    The ‘please’ is in his right hand. When I was a teacher I was occasionally critcised for not saying ‘please’ to the pupils. My reply was that ‘please’ is a request ; it can be denied. Orders can only be obeyed or disobeyed and make it clear what is expected.

    We respected one of our teachers more than others because he DID say “please” and “thankyou”. He addressed us by our first names and he got more out of us than all the other teachers. I don’t remember anyone not doing his homework.
