gotta know your audience. a teacher that is also a bird (the course) would certainly double-whammy love an apple with a worm in it (the horse). not everyone would be associated with the apple (teachers) and not everyone would enjoy a worm (birds). this student obviously has brought the right horse to the right course…

Who knew an apple could be such a bird-puller?

@Nazzo Thanks for the explanation. That’s a figure of speech I never heard before. It’s always a good day when I learn something new about the language!

the pleasure is mine! i really like this guy. making a wormy apple into an object of respect and affection is pretty deep for a cartoon and the “no words” format really gives the commenters a vested interest in the success of the humor. some of the strippers (anybody home?) nail down an idea so hard that there’s no room left to contribute to the subject matter. i’m gushing now, but i think this guy is a gas! i’m with you— words are fun!

Yep, words are great fun. And so are visual expressions. I love the way the “student” is standing on tiptoe, little cheeks puffed out with the effort, maybe, of lifting that heavy worm container. So anxious to please!
