Nobody claimed, or made off with, the basketball in 3 years?

pierreandnicole: best answer to post, at least that’s what conservatives in the U.S. would say, that nature takes care of itself.

Mt. Sawdust is taller than most buildings in Bathurst and the whole mill site is surrounded by a fence with a sign that says “no trespassing”, but only humans listen to that. cats and dogs see it more as a suggestion…

I’m glad that you asked about the basketball, It’s a little nod to a local tragedy that had so much hype around it that I almost hoped that nobody would notice it.

In january 2008 a bus carrying the Bathurst High School basketball team coming back from a game in Moncton crashed on highway 8, just outside of Bathurst. Seven of the boys and one teacher died.

I was living in Tracadie at the time and did not know any of the victims personally, but now I know some of their parents, though. There’s been a memorial on that spot on the highway where the accident happened, there’s a memorial at their school, the funeral was held at the arena and showed on tv, a film was made and they just finished another darn memorial downtown! Sometimes, I wonder if all that comemoration doesn’t just give the city something to talk about and if it does not hurt the families more then it helps them so I did not want to do a whole cartoon on the subject, more on the resilience of life itself, with just a little thought (the basketball) for that tragedy in particular.

Completely agree, progressives just say that it’s no excuse to throw all of our greenhouse gases at it!

Thank you for the back story. The basketball is very poignant.

I am glad that nature has taken over the sawdust mountain.
