No bad taste intended, but the last part of “Slushie XL” was pretty much inspired by the Lac Megantic disaster.

I was horrified, like pretty much everyone but let’s face it; corporations want their profits, but maritime expats want their jobs, too, and people want their cheap gas, and heating oil, and plastics…
We have to rely less on oil, we have to explore new energies but I don’t think it will ever be possible for the western world to completely live without the stuff (not that we shouldn’t give other energies a try) and until the day all of Canada’s population moves to northern Alberta, we have to find the least dangerous way to move the stuff around.
That being said, the fact that we’ll always need oil shouldn’t be used by big corporations to cut corners like letting the pipelines leak (if we chose to have them) or let trains run while there is nobody in them on unkept tracks and let accidents happen while profits are being cashed in.

I still think trains are a better way to move oil around, if the cars and the rails are well kept and at the moment, they are not.
