Let me get this straight; Twitter is not overthrowing governments anywhere. The people in the real protests are BUT the social media is still a pretty awesome way to let information, ideas and revendications known and it does have an history-changing potential considering that most government systems in function today were created at a time when the quickest way to send information from Halifax to Ottawa took three days by train…

Let’s wait and see what those new sixties are going to give us. Even if they don’t completely overthrow the system, they don’t have to be overthrown to be changed. The overthrow of Mubarak ended up being a step forward for islamists and a step backward for Egypt. On the other hand, the Quebec separatist movement failed…twice since Quebec is still part of Canada and Canada is still a monarchy. Yet, it took Quebec and Canada from a british colony to being its own G8 country with a culture (sorry, cultureS) of its own (and its own constitution in 1982).

And if you’re saying, like Erdogan, that the social media will bring the demise of any social order, keep in mind all you Mittaines that they’ve been saying that about rock music from Elvis to Marilyn Manson!
