History has the darnest ways to get back at people.

When I watched a movie about Colombus with Frank, there was one thing that surprised me, but then again, maybe not that much; latino-americans absofreakingly hate Colombus, Pizzaro, Cortes and all that crowd. With the massacre that took place after, it’s understandable.

Cartier, on the other hand, has a different legacy in french Canada. It’s like people know what happened with the indians and all, but they rather not think about it. Everyone is too busy hating the kings of England, who are seen as the real evil conqueror.

That made Jacques Cartier the one guy without whom there wouldn’t be any french-canada. Rich quebeckers even had a secret society named after him (the Order of Jacques-Cartier).

Also, there’s the trademark bridge in Montreal…second only to the Golden Gate in the number of people who jump off every year.

Funny. Glad I watched a film yesterday starring Louis Jourdan.
