This toon is a tribute to the mysterious “number nine” on the canadian five-dollar bill. The bank note shows kids playing hockey and one kid wears the number nine. In hockey, it can be a reference to many great players; Maurice Richard, Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe, put two nines together and you’ve got Wayne Gretzky, put that 99 upside down and you have Mario Lemieux…but a line on the note is taken from a children’s book and short film called “The Hockey Sweater” (it’s on youTube, go see it! It’s so cute!) and the main character and his buddies have 9’s in reference to Richard.
Meanwhile south of the border, americans are staring at their banknotes for references to freemasonry…
