    …i love butter on my potatoes – but I wonder if it was some sort of faux pas back then? Or, is it because butter was so expensive that Skippy wasn’t allowed to use it, but the boarders were? Can’t figure out why everybody at the table seems so offended by his remark…(that is both the trouble and the beauty of a strip this old…)

    I was thinking this comic took place during the great depression, so butter might have been a luxury item not to be wasted. But then I see the comic is dated 1926, which means this took place two years before the depression began. Still, things might have been tight and butter is a commodity not to be wated.
