Bootlegger’s Friday baffles me, I know this strip was done during prohibition, but can’t make the connection.

I believe it is a reference to being an aide, or assistant, to a bootlegger; a la ‘Girl Friday’. For many, being a bootlegger at that time wasn’t reputable at all, and being a bootlegger’s Friday would be just as disreputable.

Someone explained it a few days ago. Think Robinson Crusoe’s man, Friday. At the time a bootlegger was a low-life criminal and so to be a Bootlegger’s Friday was a pretty low insult. Wish I could remember what day it was said so I could credit the person with it, I’m just repeating it.

@Logan Sackett I made a comment along those lines a few days ago, Logan Sackett. I thank you and mention it only to satisfy your curiosity. Credit due Dafoe. If it wasn’t mine you’re thinking of, I’m glad someone else confirmed.

Thanks. Couldn’t remember who to credit. I guess Dafoe would be right, lol.
