GoComics is delighted to re-introduce "Skippy." The legendary comic created by Percy Crosby debuted in 1923 and ran in newspapers until 1945.
Hailed by critics, fellow cartoonists and readers as a "classic," it's easy to see how "Skippy" inspired comics like "Peanuts" and "Calvin and Hobbes." We hope you enjoy this glimpse back in time with one of the most-beloved characters of the mid-20th Century.

A cartoon from a simpler, more innocent time.

Not really, considering that the cartoonist’s character was stolen by the company that produces Skippy peanut butter and he was railroaded into being declared insane, and the corporation involved has continued legally harassing his children down to this day. Nothing much has changed.

A California food packer, Joseph Rosefield, began to sell his newly developed hydrogenated peanut butter, which he labeled “Skippy” without Crosby’s permission. Years of expensive litigation followed, which Crosby’s heirs have continued into the 2000s.

I have a novel by Percy Crosby, based on his characters. It’s the second one, SOOKY. Skippy’s friend dies, and he shakes his fist skyward and shouting “Damn ye!” at heaven. Crosby knew about the dark side.
