GoComics is delighted to re-introduce "Skippy." The legendary comic created by Percy Crosby debuted in 1923 and ran in newspapers until 1945.
Hailed by critics, fellow cartoonists and readers as a "classic," it's easy to see how "Skippy" inspired comics like "Peanuts" and "Calvin and Hobbes." We hope you enjoy this glimpse back in time with one of the most-beloved characters of the mid-20th Century.

I once watched a guy fishing for three hours, and he didn’t catch a single thing. That idiot sure wasted his time.

Wasting time is the point of fishing. You have the perfect excuse to sit in Nature and do nothing. You don’t even have to talk to anyone because “it’ll scare the fish.” Half the time there isn’t even any bait on your hook. It’s not about catching fish. Cripes, if you caught em you’d have to clean em, and who wants to do that? It’s just sitting there, chilling, that’s the good part.

But if they enjoy it, why knock it?

I once spent 30 minutes watching what I thought was a comedy skit show. It turned out to be a programme about fishing. They actually make programmes about a man sitting on a bank doing nothing! The first half was hilarious while I still thought it was a skit.

Once again, my hat’s off to Crosby, who drew each panel independently and didn’t just copy the first three (though not sure if he could have back then, but still). I admire his talents.

My dad tried to get me interested in fishing, but I was too restless. Still am, come to think of it.

I don’t think they had the ability back then. It was pen and ink and paper, that’s all. Acid etching a plate per frame would have been too costly.

Went fishing once. Didn’t catch a d@mn thing. Satisfied my craving for a fish dinner by going to McDonalds for a Filet 0 Fish sandwich on the drive home. Fishing ain’t as easy as what we saw Andy and Opie do.

Absolutely – I call it “down time”. Usually with my dog, a book and a sandwich. And NO STINKIN’ CELL PHONE!

I hear ya. Night fishing can be some of the best. So quiet you can hear yourself think. I miss the whippoorwills. We don’t have them here.
