Hmm, currently reading the history of the Comanche, and this fits right in with the way the advancing “pioneers” treated that enemy, who could actually fight (well, not their kids and infants) but also every other native tribe they ran across, including those who did not, or could not, fight them…

the commanches were fighting people who were going to take everything from them. these people are fighting their own co religionists, in the name of a god of love and peace.

You fail to notice the first thing the winning tribe does is to take as much as they can from the losers. That was the problem in Iraq, the losers could not participate in the “new democracy”. Why does religion seem to be at the heart of all these inhumane, senseless wars?

Just more proof that Arthur C. Clarke was right when he said that “Anyone who believes in Religion is Clinically Insane!”

You are completely correct that the Comanche were, for the most part, from a completely different religion than the Europeans who slaughtered them, so there IS that difference.

But savages aside, consider the Huguenots, who belonged to a completely different sect from those who tied them together naked and threw them into the Seine. (OK, so I shouldn’t have said, ‘savages aside’ since we’re talking about the French.)

So what’s happening now in Iraq is much more like the Massacre of the Huguenots than it is like the slaughter of the Comanche.

Either way, of course, today the US is almost Native-American-free (compared with an estimate of at least 10 million in 1492) and France is almost Huguenot-free.

    Love the Huguenot story.

The question is, will we allow ISIS to have its way with Iraq?

This ’toon is not hyperbole. Islamic extremists in Kenya, last week, came into a few villages and went door-to-door to find any non-muslims. It is reported that they gunned down, in their own homes, anyone, man, woman AND child, who they felt was an infidel.

I read about this in the Boston Globe and New York Times yesterday.

To be fair, humanity has always found excuses for murder and genocide. Religion just happens to be one of the more popular ones.

The Boko-Haram are interested in destroying modernity in Nigeria. That includes those who support it, work for it and teach it. So they go and murder all of those they see as part of the modern world they hate and want to see exterminated. Curiously the Nigerian govt. are more interested in shutting down news papers who report it than for putting down those who are doing it. Corruption doesn’t begin to cover how lowly the Nigerian govt is. Expect Nigeria to be breaking up too.

Just a btw: the Comanche WERE very good at proving there are much worse things you can do to a person than merely kill them, and the white(mostly) European settlers took that to heart in their treatment of “natives”, all around the world!! And that included those kindly missionaries from many “sophisticated western religions”.
