The San Jose Mercury News today had a list of interesting facts about Shirley Temple, the most humorous (to me) being that she stopped believing in Santa Claus at the mature age of 6 when her mother took her to see one at a large department store, and he asked for her autograph!

Ah, well. I knew we wouldn’t have Shirley forever.

At least call her by her name, Ambassador Shirley Temple-Black.

With respect to Mrs. Black, who was indeed a leading example for Americans, it shouldn’t be forgotten that many of her contemporary child stars also ended up in just as big a psychological mess as Miley and Beiber. But indeed, folks HAVE chosen to forget those case from “Our Gang” up through child celebrities of the ’60’s and on to today.

Maybe that’s got something to do with why she DID go on to accept new challenges, and use her fame for positive outcomes?

The art — especially the caricature of Cyrus — looks like something out of Yellow Submarine. That’s a compliment, actually…

We could all use a little Shirley Temple in our lives. All the crap that is thrown at us on the TV everyday. I think House of Cards is a great show but yeah it does belong on the internet.

My understanding was that she didn’t so much quit as it was more and more difficult for her to find acting rolls as she grew up. Still, kudos to her for successfully transitioning into life outside of stardom. That her parents stole money from her couldn’t have helped any.

Yes, there were plenty of childhood star disasters throughout the decades, such as Danny Bonaduce. RIP Mrs Black, you were a class act.

Hollywood is a heartless machine and it can corrupt most people who reach some success with drugs and wild parties and jet setting. Most can’t handle it. We see the wrecks it leaves. Sad really.

Yeah, Ms. Black’s film career faded fast once she hit puberty, and she did wobble a bit, but unlike many child actors in that position managed to recover nicely. Maybe if everyone had started ignoring Ms. Cyrus the moment Hannah Montana was over, it might have helped.

Putting that piece of trash Cyrus in with Shirley Temple is disgusting.
