Will you bring your imaginary friend too?
I wish one of those teachers had been allowed to carry and stopped that sicko.

If that sicko didn’t have a gun, would this have even happened??

The number of murders per year from firearms is roughly five times that from knives and cutting implements, and in several states exceeds the number of deaths from auto accidents.

He wouldn’t have had a gun if his mom hadn’t bought them for him.

Why is it “false equivalency”, it is actually solidly logical. Just because banning cars would inconvenience YOU and banning guns would make YOU feel better doesn’t make Molon Labe illogical, just makes you gullible.

A senseless shooting occurred one year ago in Newtown, a community I am very familiar with and have friends living in. On the following Sunday morning I learned that an acquaintance’s niece was one of the young shooting victims.
I look here for an intelligent conversation about what can be done about the all too common shootings that somehow do not occur in countries where sane gun laws exist. I do not wish to hear some gun nut spouting off with NRA talking points.
England has far stricter gun laws than the US and has a small fraction of the murder rate (1.2 vs. 4.4 per 100,000). Ditto for many other countries, including Canada (1.6 per 100,000) and Australia (1.0 per 100,000).
The second amendment is NOT about yahoos being able to walk around with six-guns hanging from their belts. It is about the right of a community to support a local militia. In the late 1700s few communities had professional policemen. Militias were how most rural communities enforced the law. The second amendment, if written in a later era, would have stated that communities had a right to a well-trained police force. Let’s recognize that times have changed and either update the language or abolish the second amendment altogether.
For all of the NRA apologists our there, I suggest that you take your rants to the Rush Limbaugh website or an NRA website. You will find like-minded people and get a better reception there.

In fairness to gun retailers, 55% say “its too easy for criminals to get guns in this country” (Harper’s Index January ’14; Violence Prevention Research Program, UC Davis School of Medicine (Sacramento)).

So how many people did YOU know who died from a legally obtained assault weapon?
