Philly’s not alone. Many other major urban cities across the country are well on their way due to decades of Big-government Democrats spending other people’s money with no concern as to who will pay for it.

And the entire nation is still suffering from the GOP’s spending like a drunken sailor during the Bush years.
They cut taxes on the rich and started two wars without thinking of what would happen. That was actually the first time that we went to war without raising taxes.

Give us a break, Obama is worse than even the shrub. I thought nobody could be worse than Clinton and then Baby Bush was, then I thought nobody could be worse than Baby Bush and now Obama is. He’s given more money to wall street banksters, kept Bushes wars going in the middle east, and dumped Obamacare on us.Obama will be remembered as the worst potus ever.

funny how the govt could bail out the banks, but not detroit. it’s probably because the people in detroit don’t kick back to fund congresspersons.

You forget the cardinal rule of conservative commentary; conservatives and their policies are never, ever wrong according to conservatives. You have to remember that when commenting here.

Over the next decade, we will see more and more cities go the way of Detroit if we fail to act. Action is no longer a priority in a nation where party is more important than being a democratic republic. Each of our cannibalistic parties wants to be the ONLY party thereby becoming an oligarchy.
There are MANY ways to fix this problem, but it requires civility and respect and dialogue. Something that is in very short supply.

“Give us a break, Obama is worse than even the shrub.”
No, you give us a break, nobody will ever be worse than baby bush. Ashburn is right, baby bush continued the /failed policy of “trickle down” economics of miniscule low end tax breaks to appease the common folk" in order to reward his buddies and friends with massive top end tax breaks. On top of that he waged two needless wars, all on credit with no regard or responsibility in spending on those wars. He racked up more debt than all presidents before him combined. (yes it’s true). He presided over the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression and thank God he bailed just as it was getting bad. When you factor in all of the legacy costs for king george’s policies and blunders he is responsible for more of the nation’s debt than all other presidents combined, including Obama. Obama is no great president, that is for sure, but he is not near the disaster baby bush is/was.
    So give us a break.

“The wars had bipartisan support. Want to see the List of Dems who voted for them?”
We’ve been over this topic ad naseum but I see you still don’t have the honor or integrity to stop pushing the fallacy. Back in the day congress didn’t dare deny king george his wants. Do you remember the statement, “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists?” Spoken by none other than President George W. Bush, in an address to a joint session of Congress on September 20, 2001. Of course you don’t, it doesn’t fit your meme. But that statement, and the pursuant political blackmail of threatening to label politicians as “unpatriotic” was very effective at keeping a complacent CONgress in his grip. And if you were labeled unpatriotic, your career was pretty much over. So like it or not, republican or Democrat if king george said I want, congress fell over themselves to give it to him. And that is also not to mention the deliberate lies and the lies from deliberate ignorance that were used to trump up support of his pet wars.
Will you ever stop being a troll and start being an honest member of society? Whereas your select choices of facts are technically accurate, you ignore a vast array of other mitigating facts. So it comes back to the saying, figures (facts) don’t lie, but liars (onguard and his partisan co-minions) figure (manipulate facts).

Left out 40 years of political corruption (the former mayor is in prison, so a former councilwoman and several members of their staffs: at one point 5 of the 9 members of Council were under state or federal corruption)

    “Civility requires Truthfulness.”
You mean PARTIAL truthfulness, like your comment I refuted above? You are really one to talk about truthfulness.

When you stick to only the Facts that support your Emotion and Agenda, its not hard to be Right.
There I fixed it for you. NOW it is accurate.

Why aren’t cities “too big to fail?”

    @Respectful Troll

We could go the “Robo Cop” way and allow giant corporations to take over cities, maybe even whole states to “fix” them.
