    Off-topic, but very on-topic for Philadelphians, rest in peace, Congressman William H. Gray III.

    Like some other states they threaten to take over the local system but are clueless when it comes to operating a school much less teaching. Outsourcing will be an answer, one that destroys public education.

    I kid of agree but need to cut expenses out of the schools. first lower teachers pensions and one that gets me in trouble is if you can not speak English then you can not come to class or if you have a learning disability. (which requires a paidteachers aid.) And most of all quit the busing of students bus teacher so that all kid get a good education. the Idea of putting slower children with brighter students is stupid. Does not help the slower children but limits the brighter students (race is not a issue)

    You certainly have never been a teacher, and sound as if all of your knowledge of education came from Fox News.

    If a teachers salary is tied to performance then the politicians salary should be tied to the state of the economy.

    But where in the public system are top performing teachers actually receiving higher pay? There must be a few but generally it’s just feelgood political talk.

    @ODon

    Turning them over to corporations doesn’t help it hurts more than anything. Wants to teach to one of their tests like little robots. No inquiring minds, no teachers with wide educations either. They want disposable clone drones for teachers. We need the opposite. And better if they have degrees in some subject other than education.

    @David

    Repubilcans want every school to be a corporate school that is Christian based and military oriented. They want to produce Christian soldiers for their Armies of the Lord.

    Right. Save money by abandoning the sick and the poor to… what, being uneducated and living on the streets? Just because the alternative is raising taxes. You probably consider yourself a Christian, too.
