How do you propose the judges be selected then? By whatever the current administration happens to be? That’ll sure be less political :-/

This country is better off with Kennedys. If you want to see this country – and by extension the world – destroyed, keep electing Bushes.

“This country is better off with Kennedys.”

Bush II was a mediocre President, but to extol the Kennedys is forgetting their misconduct of the years.

Bush killed hundreds of thousands more people than Kennedy ever dreamed of. And a Kennedy at least got Americans the right to buy health insurance. Bush did nothing — literally nothing — for me, except load up the country with debt.

I would rather vote on judges. We have the name problem here in Ohio, but a judges rulings are public records, and any finagling, etc. can be brought before the people. We also have Mayor,s Courts, which have consistently been used for revenue enhancement rather than justice. Now we are finding out that some, as well as some municipal courts, are illegally jailing poor people for being unable to pay fines, a modern debtor’s prison. The people will have a chance to take this into consideration when these judges/mayors come up for reelection, and you can bet their opponents will cite these cases in political ads.

There are advantages to both ways: so combine them. Let’s have some actual credentials required to be a judge.
Or we can keep to a “civil service” type approach, where you are not eligible for an appointment unless you bring appropriate expertise, experience, and credentials.
C’mon, you wouldn’t hire a mechanic who didn’t know anything about cars — do we REALLY want judges who don’t know anything about the law?

Do you mean that liberals destroy things like the world economy? Let’s see. The worst recessions and depressions since the Civil War ALL started under GOP presidents:
    1873 – Grant.
    1907 – T. Roosevelt
    1929 – Hoover
    1957 – Eisenhower
    1970 – Nixon
    2008 – G. W. Bush

Also, the best economies were started during Democratic administrations, with the sole exception of the Harding/Coolidge years (1921-1929):
1946 – Truman (let’s not count the wartime economy under FDR, when the economy was absolutely roaring)
    1961 – JFK
1993 – Clinton (the best economy the U.S. has ever had during peacetime)

In Texas, supreme court judges are elected. Which led to the wrong person being elected in 1976. We knew Don Yarborough, and knew he was a good guy, so when people saw his name on the ballot, they voted for him (including me). But it turned out to be Don Yarbrough, a completely different person with a completely different philosophy. Judges are elected here all the time without the voters knowing who they actually are.
