Redifining marriage still doesn’t make it right just because you want it to be. And no, 40% unmarrieds having kids isn’t right either, just to be clear. Harming the kids in the long run just to make yourselves “feel better”.

Except that there is no evidence that having two same-sex parents harms kids in any way. All there is is your assertions. At least I know people raised by same-sex couples. And they have done very well for themselves.

And the same people who scream the most about “harming the children” try to keep same-sex couples from adopting, or complain about inter-racial adoption, and are against birth control, and want to cut social services. But, do THEY adopt? NO!

Remind me again which one of his marriages Bob Barr is defending? He’s got a host to choose from.

The Mormon’s would like it to be more than 2 people? Why can’t that work then? If 2 are good, then 3, 4, or more is better, right??? They’re in LOVE after all! Where does the line stop?

Recently went to a greeting card store looking for a birthday card. There were cards for step moms, step dads, step kids and even step inlaws along with all sorts of “divorce” cards…
    .
Marriage has long been “redefined”, but it wasn’t the gay community doing the redefining, it was us.

For all of you “slippery slope” believers, do you feel that we should reduce all speed limits to 20 to save lives? Put in speed bumps every 50 feet?

Liquor is legal. Shouldn’t we then expect that everyone will want to legalize heroin?

Caffeine is legal. Does this mean it’s just a matter of time until methamphetamine is legal?

And why CAN’T you yell “fire” in a crowded theater? Isn’t that a violation of my constitutional rights?

Assuming that no one has a whit of common sense is a bad idea. And trying to build a society around the concept that common sense is not available is sheer folly.

Yes. Same-sex couples can pull it off. Their children are better off when they are married. That’s why the American Pediatric Association weighed in against Prop 8 and DOMA. There are 40,000 children in California whose parents are blocked from being married by right-wing nut-jobs who seem to believe that if people they don’t like get married, they’ll have to leave their spouses or something. Enough already.

Conservatives use the exact same “sanctity of marriage” argument today against gay marriage as their fathers used 50 years ago to oppose interracial marriage.
Until Loving vs. Virginia in 1967, miscegenation was a felony in the Commonwealth of Virginia, punishable by a state prison term of one to five years.
(Four states call themselves “Commonwealth” – KY, MA, PA and VA)

And in history, most children were born out of wedlock, as marriage was for royalty to seal treaties, then for the merchant class to advance their business interests. We have the term “common law” marriage because peasants/serfs/slaves could not get married, but lived together “as in marriage”. And yes, blame Democrats. The South was mostly Democratic, and slave owners would break up families on a whim. And miscegenation might have been illegal, but that never stopped Massa from taking his privileges whenever he wanted. Great “institution” marriage is, is it not?
