It is sad when you realize that the University of Florida shut down one entire Computer studies program, ostensibly to save about $1.75 Million a couple of years ago, while at the same time increasing the Athletics Department’s budget by $2 Million!

Well, maybe China will be on top in science, in math, in technological know-how… but they’ll never score a touchdown on us! USA! USA!

Underpaid teachers, overcrowded classrooms, double-schedule schools, broken-down school buildings, inadequate facilities and a number of other failings that come from something else — the cult of athleticism, marching bands, high-school drum majorettes, ethnic ghetto schools, de-intellectualized curricula, the failure to educate in serious subjects, the neglect of academically gifted children.

Can’t we just use our smart phones to get out of this?

Sad, yes. Unexpected? No. Really, isn’t it time for most colleges and universities to stop pretending they are there to teach? Close down all academic departments and/or move to those few colleges/universities without any sports programs. Most universities today are just training camps for professional sports, so end the pretense!

Not enough people are getting technical degrees.
Maybe it has something to do with a segment of this country that don’t want their children taught science? Or anyone else’s children. I’m looking at you, Texas.

So many computer geniuses lost their jobs, farmed out over seas, no real jobs in there field here for a decade or more. That can cripple our work force very easily.
