   Actually, if Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida leave and take the Dakotas and possibly Alaska with them, it would be very bad for the rest of us. For one thing Texas alone is the either the 13th or 15th rated economy on earth (depending on who is rating). Texas isn’t broke and they have NO INCOME TAX. Imagine if they didn’t have to send in income taxes to the feds? Also, the gulf states could shut off some very important harbors (as well as access from the upper Mississippi, Missouri and Ohio rivers to the sea) and they could take the gulf oil with them. If the Dakotas leave, where will the US place their nuclear missile fields, outside of Boston? And the Dakotas and Alaska have lots of oil and natural gas reserves (let alone Texas and the Gulf of Mexico). Be careful what you wish for. Think strategically.

   I’ve noticed that neither the left nor the right base many of their beliefs on scientific fact but rather on those bits and pieces of science that the politicians feed their constituency’s predispositions to believe certain “facts”. This cartoon also fits in the above categorization.

   As Mourdock pointed out, high teen pregnancy is a gift from God, and he would have won had the vote for God not been split between Mourock and Horning, giving the election to Donnelly.

   
   And I can’t believe that people who find rocks that look like huge bones think those rocks were formed when a huge bone got buried in mud and got replaced with minerals that solidified into rock over millions of years. I read a natural history book called Five Children and IT that explained that those rocks were all created by psammeads, and are no older than it says in the Bible (we’re a little unclear on how old that is: Bishop Usher came up with 4004 BC for the creation, but he had to estimate some of those dates, and other authorities come up with somewhere between 5000 BC and 9000 BC for the creation, but the world is clearly younger than 12000 years old, no matter what that atheist Carbon 14 says).

   
   And low test scores just means Texas hasn’t allowed the grade inflation that has infected the rest of the nation!

   I’ve also just read that Austin, Texas, is creating a petition to secede from Texas should it secede from the Union. It could therefore create an enclave like existed before the last German reunification: a new West Berlin.

    The nuclear fields could be placed in the vast federal land reserves in Nevada, unless that state also secedes.
    California is the 8th-largest economy on earth, greater than all but 7 nations! It, too, has oil as does Pennsylvania.
    On the other hand, if I had my way, petroleum would become obsolete.
    The North also has a substantial rail network that leads to “Yankee” ports on the Atlantic, Pacific and Great Lakes. That rail network helped to win Civil War I.

    You think the northeast coast is cold now, just wait for us to cut off their heating oil for non payment.
    We are, for the most part, self sufficient and have the infrastructure to survive on our own.
    I don’t see a lot of that in the NE US. Through uninionization and the DC udder, they’ve become fat living off the largess of other, ‘flyover country’ States.
    Shoot, they may have to go to work for a living!
    Nah, neither the unions nor DC will let ’em. At least until the rest of the mid-continent says: “ENOUGH!!”

    I’m willing to give it a try. But you know what? The blue states actually produce quite a bit of energy themselves. And without the reds slowing them down, I’ll bet we’d advance in renewable energy much faster.

    There sure is a “Mandate” from Tax-us citizens to leave the union, with a whopping .04% of the state’s population signing the petitions!
