Guess you could search the students prior to entry each day but that would take time and violate their rights. So, let ’em in and take the consequences!

If you didn’t have bullying, often with the open cooperation by school authorities, this wouldn’t happen. I know about it – I was bullied at Upper Moreland schools in Willow Grove, PA, and if I tried to resist or fight back, I would be punished while the bullies got off scot-free. If I had access to weapons when I was in school, I would have pulled a Columbine back in 1978.

That crap stopped several years after I left high school. Besides, very few people bully someone who is 6’2", 265#!

Bullying will be the “defense” of the young man. However, he did kill at least three and wounded so many others. Not counting the terror h inflicted on the entire school and city. Justice demands action. Maybe the uncle with the gun left lying about should be the one…

Try as we might we can no more eliminate bullying than we can eliminate ignorance. The best we can do is teach oour children how to deal with it, but for some reason that is one job we refuse.

You’re right, the Uncle who left the pistol unsecured should be jailed for this as well.

For those of you who are in agreement with the concept behind the cartoon, what is it you want?
The gun he had was illegal, your idealized law was in place. Your law failed!!!

Only a member of the militia could have a gun yet amazingly he still had one. What would you want the law to be, different from what it is, to satisfy your gun limitation desires?

There are no guns allowed in DC, as per your reading of the constitution, yet that is one of the handgun murder capitals of the country.

What change in the law do you want?

Let’s set aside certain States where guns are basically unrestricted and other States where guns are very tightly controlled. The results would be a good study into Darwinism.

yes yes let’s be PC here. Take all the guns away from those that own them legally and abide by the law of the land. Now, do you really believe that will eliminate the problem? All you have done is insure that the only people that have access to and carry weapons are criminals and law enforcement. And some of you think that law enforcement can be classified as criminal.

Wouldn’t it be better to educate rather than criminalize? But – if you are honest about it – what are we teaching our youth about the “sanctity” of life? And yes, the casual approach to abortion as a women’s “health” issue does not help. Along with the violence in games and other forms of entertainment and the fact that we have taught young people to run scared to an adult instead of leaning how to defuse a situation on their own with their peers. And yes sometimes that means a physical altercation.

I do agree that the “uncle” should be held accountable.

Lets look at how the gun did end up in his hands. We need ensure that guns are not available to ANYONE in our society so that they can not be sold, stolen or legally purchased to commit such acts (not to mention those incidents where they are available for suicides or accidentally cause harm by their very presence.) If guns are illegal, not even the criminals can obtain them without substantial effort so that crimes like this are greatly reduced. The fact that there is no perfect solution is not a reason for implementing the best solution we have.

I don’t own a gun because I have no need of one, but I do believe the second amendment guarantees everyone the right to own one. It has been reinterpreted to reflect America’s expansion while being surrounded by hostile forces during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when simply having a regional armory was less practical than allowing the individual to protect his own home. I do think that, since many gun accidents happen to law abiding owners that it may be time to require gun owners to pass a state sponsored gun safety and regulation course before allowing the issuance of a license. Treat this the way we do a drivers license, so gun owners excersize their right to ownership while affirming their responsibility to the safety of the general public. What do you think of this, Bruce?
