I think I can readily admit that the ball was hit out the park, whooosh!, over my “foreigner” head with this ‘toon.
Let me see. A match with a NY team (yanks?NY Yankees!), Wall st is in NY, their fanbase arriving in limos (ah, yes, banker bonuses). Citizens vs. Bankers entrances for the different teams’ fans.
Ok, got it. Carry on.
I think the idea is that Phillies’ fans are regular joes. The Yankees have more money than anyone in Major League Baseball, and tend to buy firepower, which is why they win disproportionately.
Signe Wilkinson's honors include the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning (the first woman to win this award), the 1997, 2001 and 2007 Overseas Press Club Award, the 2002 RFK Award and she has the distinction of having been named "the Pennsylvania state vegetable substitute" by the former speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Her cartoons are syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group.
